My son Vincent Chase Ward was born Tuesday June 5th 2007 at 10:32 AM via C-Section. He weighed 9 pounds 10 ounces and was 21inches long. It was a planned c-section since my daughter was a c-section as well. I was extremely nervous the day before when we went in for pre-op but the morning of the surgery I was so ready to not be pregnant anymore I was oddly not nervous. We arrived to the hospital at 7 AM to check in. They brought me back to the operation waiting area where I put on my lovely hospital gown and socks. They hooked me up to an IV and started my fluids before surgery. I had to sign more paper work and talked with the doctors. My surgery was for 9 AM but got delayed because there was an emergency c-section that needed to get pulled in before me. Dang it that is the second time this has happened to me. So my boyfriend Shane and I waited and talked. Then they came to get me and bring me back to the operating room which is extremely cold at about 9:50 AM. They sat me on the table and hooked me up to a blood pressure monitor, heart monitor, and oxygen. Then they sat me up and cleaned my back three times. After that they proceeded with the spinal. The first time it shot down my right side, the second time it shot down my right side again but hurt really bad, then finally the third time it went in just right. Thank God. I was so scared the spinal wouldn't take and they would have to put me to sleep. They laid me down and put up the curtain. Finally after what seemed like forever they let Shane come into the operating room with me. He sat at my head and held my hand. He was more scared than I was but tried so hard not to show it. The spinal went up high and put my throat to sleep so I couldn't swallow, very scary the first time it happened this time I was more prepared mentally for it. Shane freaked a little but I told him it was okay. They had to mess with my fluids because my blood pressure dropped after they gave me the spinal. After what seemed like forever we heard our baby boy cry for the first time. It was amazing. Shane stood up and saw him. He said the first thought that crossed his mind was "How did something that big fit inside her stomach?" They brought him to me and laid him on my chest and let me hold him and kiss him for a minute before Shane and he went to the nursery. I just tried to relax while they finished up my surgery. It took a little while because I had a lot of scar tissue from my first surgery and they were also fixing my scar from my first surgery which was messed up. They brought me back to the recovery room where they hooked me up to a morphine drip with a button I could push every six minutes. They also pushed on my stomach which at first was fine but once I started getting feeling back was like cruel and unusual torture. They brought the baby back to me so I can breastfeed and bond some. They had to give him a bottle in the nursery because his blood sugar was low. They said big babies have that problem at birth. I got to breastfeed which he took to like a champ. I held him for a while but then they had to go back to the nursery. Luckily by then I had feeling in my legs and was able to move them so they were going to move me to my own room very shortly. I got wheeled down the hall way to my own room. We passed Shane who was standing outside the nursery staring at our son in amazement. They tortured me some more in the room, although I know it is good for me wow it sure does hurt. They brought the baby and Shane to my room. Because of his low blood sugar we had to bottle feed him after every time I breastfeed him and he had to repeatedly get his blood sugar checked. That was just the first day though after that his blood sugar finally stabilized and he was all good. I however got a fever of 102.9 the first day after surgery. I had to get blood work done and be put on an antibiotic IV. They also once again would not let me breastfeed while I had a fever, so he had to be bottle feed. We later found out the second day I could breastfeed with a fever that it would not make the baby sick or give him a fever but in fact strengthen his immune system with my antibodies through the breast milk. I stayed with fever for three days so I had to stay in the hospital for an extra day, they would only release me if I was fever free for twenty-four hours. Finally after five long torturous days my fever stayed down long enough for them to release me and the baby home. I was in a lot of pain having an infection and it was very scary getting sick after such major surgery but my baby was worth it in the end. He actually didn’t get named until he was one day old and the birth certificate lady came in asking us what his name was then we looked at each other and said um?, but Shane said Vincent Chase and I asked if he was sure and he said yes so I got my way and that is what we named him. I figured after major surgery and an infection he didn’t really want to fight with me on his name. He got circumcised when he was two days old and he took it like a champ, didn’t cry or anything. They wheeled him away and brought him back in about fifteen minutes, then showed us how to take care of it, and he was fine. I had to get some tests done while in the hospital, blood work which showed elevated while blood cell count and a chest x-ray to rule out pneumonia. They couldn’t figure out what was causing the infection other than an extremely high fever, I would tremble, and it would cause me more pain than what I was already in. I was so relieved to be released; we were starting to get cabin fever from being locked up for so long. I walked the maternity hallway everyday probably four times a day, which was really good for me because when I had Victoria I only walked the hallway once in the three/four days I was there. They said walking would help but I don’t really believe that I mainly walked because I was restless. The first time I got up and walked was to check on Vincent. The nurse took him to the nursery because he was really fussy and we figured it was because he hadn’t pooped in quite awhile even though the nurse swore he would be fine; she suggested he was hungry but he wasn’t. They kept insisting I bottle feed him since he was so big and they felt he wasn’t eating enough. I didn’t want to he had enough bottles to last him; I thought she was going to give him a bottle so I wanted to walk to the nursery on the way there though she was on the way back with him. Turns out he pooped and stopped fussing; go figure mommy was right about her baby. Oh well he motivated me to get up and start walking, little stinker. We had a lot of visitor’s which wasn’t too bad, Shane’s dad was mine and Vincent’s paparazzi he took about a thousand pictures the three days he was there with us. Victoria absolutely loved her brother and bonded with him instantly. She wasn’t jealous of him which was a big fear of mine and she adored holding and helping me with him. She didn’t want anyone to hold him except for us and her. They are going to be the best of friends. It was nice finally being released and being able to go home that Saturday afternoon. Well that is Vincent and I birth story, hoped you enjoyed.

This was on myspace so it was writen last year in June.
On Wed. the 20th of June at 10:30 am I went to my OB check and I had been feeling a little different, Hailey wasn't moving as much and I felt like I had been leaking for a few days. The dr. checked and said I wasn't leaking but sent me to the hospital to get a u/s (ultra-sound) and an NST (Non Stress Test) plus set me up to go in and start pitocin that night. I went from there to the hospital were they did my NST first and then my u/s. The nurse said that we could go home and rest for a bit and that we should come back at 5:00pm to get everything started. Later that night, about 2:00pm the Dr. called and she that he was really happy that we were going to be induced cause Hailey's amniotic fluid was getting low. It was at 6.8. At 4:00pm I was to call the hospital just to make sure there was room there for me. There wasn't so they told me to try again tomorrow the same time. So on Thursday I was running around the house just making sure I had everything cause I swore to myself I was forgetting something and the phone rang. It was the hospital saying that they couldn't take me again, that they had 4 ladies all go into hard active labor around the same time and that there was not enough staff to watch me. I was so disappointed by this time I started balling. The nurse set me up again for a Friday try. When Friday came we all looked at eachother (Dh, my mom, and me) and said that we were not going to answer the phone if the caller id. said the hospital. They ended up calling at 4: 10pm and my mom did answer it and was happy when they said that they still had room for us but only needed us to come in at 8:00pm and not 5:00pm. Then thinking we were in the clear and nothing was going to happen we answered the phone when they called back about 2 hours later. They made my Dr. call me and talk to me and tell me that we would have to put it off again. I started balling and handed the phone to my mom. She got on and being a nurse herself ripped the Dr. a new one. She told the Dr. that she didn't understand why they would set me up to be induced if they were just going to call and cancel every time. She also said that we wanted another u/s to check fetal movement and amniotic fluids again. The Dr. agreed I think more out of fear my mom would come though the phone.
We got there about 6:30pm and they took me to the u/s tech and she did what she needed. Then she took me back to the L&D unit. The Dr. came in and said that they were going to send a few ladies home that weren't in "active" labor and that they wanted me to stay cause my levels went down to an even 6. So at 8:10pm I was finial admitted. They were really nice and came in to check on me, I think cause of my mom. I think the word got around that she was the reason I was there. They started a drug I forgot the name at around mid-night that was meant to "ripen my cervix", but it ended up being to much and the contractions were to close together so they stopped the drug around 3:00 am. Then they started the pitocin after about 30min. They called the epi person to come in and start that. My legs went numb almost as soon as they put the drug in. I was doing great the whole day, the contractions were so strong that I went from 2.5cm to 10 by 3:00pm. I pushed for only 35 min. and out came Hailey at 3:36pm. She weighed in at 8lbs. 1oz. and is 20.5in. long. She is so beautiful!
After about an hour my tummy really started cramping hard they said it was normal. After 2 hours my mom started wondering cause the pains were worst then the contractions I was having. The nurse came in and the next thing I remember was saying "mommy it hurts" I was postpartum hemorrhaging. I really don't remember much after that, I was told that I passed out two different times and I had 9 nurses in the room trying everything they could to being me around. I do remember one nurse plus my MIL (Mother-in-Law) yelling at me saying "Kathryn breath with me". I was rushed into the OR were later I found out that I had torn not once, but twice and one was so far up they didn't see it. I ended up losing 1500cc of blood. They put 4 bags back in and now I'm doing a lot better. I'm up and walking around for the most part. I'm still bleeding a lot, but they said I would with increased movement. We were sent home on the 25th and besides her jaundice which we have been treating with a bili-light (sp) everything seems to be ok.
