I'm glad you had a good appointment and you look great!
Just catching up on your lodge, everything sounds like its going so smoothly for you!!!!
I got so much stuff done today! My mom came over to help with DD and get things organized. We still had to buy the adapter and hose to fill the birth pool, so we got that set and also got the pool inflated. It's awesome and I can't wait to use it. All of my home birth supplies are set and organized, my recycling was done, laundry was done and the regular grocery trip will happen tomorrow. I am feeling good to have all the little things tied up for now.
Since my mom was here, she also stayed to watch DD while DH and I got to see a movie. We saw the new Batman movie, which DH was thrilled about. We don't usually see movies, since we prefer to Netflix them and watch at home, but it was really nice to get out and have one last "date" before the little guy comes.
My friend who is waiting for her LO is still pregnant. She isn't due until the 22nd, but they are already talking induction...even though it is her third and both of her other two came with in a day or two of their EDDs. Luckily, she isn't concerned about going into labor on her own at this point and the OB was just talking about some cervical ripening gel...no AROM or Pitocin at this point. I hope she has her baby before my little guy comes because I know she is anxious and I don't want her to feel pressure to do anything that might jeopardize her third NCB. And seeing as I am feeling really good and like I could be pregnant forever, I think we don't have to worry about this guy coming first!
Looks like you have everything in order. We did our big grocery trip tonight!! I was just talking to my DH about going out for one last date before we are a family of 3. Glad I'm not the only content pregnant person.
You look great Karly!
I am glad that you are feeling so great! And yeah for having everything ready....I am can not wait to hear how your birth went.
You look incredible. Love the belly. Worry not about a larger baby--remember, get the head thru and the rest just squishes Chubby babies are cute.
I abhore the "oh you poor pg woman comments"-- I got them too and never really felt terrible at the end.....you look amazing.
How are you feeling, and how was your weekend? Anything exciting?
Nothing exciting, LOL! The rest of the weekend was filled with errands, cleaning the house, groceries and laundry...just typical stuff. Yesterday, I was crabby...for no reason at all! Poor DD and DH. Luckily, I was able to take a little nap (which I never do and didn't even feel tired) and that really helped. I feel much more at peace about having everything organized for this kid to make his appearance...I was getting anxious that we might be running to the hardware for the hose adapter to fill the birth pool while I was in labor...and if I happen to have another fast labor, that would probably mean no pool. Getting everything in place on Friday really helped. I am so excited to meet this guy and have a great waterbirth, but I also feel like he is pretty comfy in there. My mom is guessing the 26th for some reason, but I feel like he won't come before the 30th, at the earliest (DH's BDay). Only he knows!
Today I am sitting at work...trying to be motivated to wrap things up, as I start my ML after this week. Luckily, I have taken care of most everything and I only work 3 days a week, so two more days to go. Part of me was hoping on the small glimmer of chance that the little guy might have come this weekend and I would have been done with work already. Now I am hoping he will be like his sister (born on Sunday after my last day of work on Friday) and come this weekend. It's always nice to utilize every second of ML with your baby, but I will also be happy to spend some time with my big girl...who will always be my baby...
Geez, sounds like you've got everything under control! With a homebirth instead of a hospital birth, it suddenly seems like there's more to organize & plan - at least that's what I'm finding. I'm a couple weeks behind you but still have all my birth supply shopping to do!
Hope your last work week goes well!
I think there is definitely more to think about, Nicole, but some of it I am happy about because it reflects more my preferences and not just "hospital" standards if that makes sense. I had fun picking out the bikini top I will have a water birth in and I am going to make a birthday cake for my little guy that we can all enjoy after the birth...it's more work, but in a good way! Also, my MW uses a site that sells birthkits with her personal preferences, so that was easy...just order and have it arrive at your doorstep. I did also have a list of other supplies, but luckily most things are things we had around the house (or that I could borrow from my mom). The only complaint I have is that the list didn't have an explanation of how the things might be used...and my assumptions were different from my mom's...so we'll see, LOL. For instance, we needed a bunch of washcloths and my mom assumed these were for cleaning up the baby, but I think they are for perineal compresses...they are probably for both, but I will ask my MW to clarify at my visit on Wednesday (and really it's the same pile of washcloths either way). There are also things that I knew I would want that aren't on any "list"...I loved the ice packs they gave me in the hospital. They were awesome for any swelling. So I made my own by freezing pads with some witch hazel. Little things like that have kept me guessing about being finally "ready"...but I have people who can run out for anything that might have been overlooked, so no big deal...I am ready as I am ever going to be!
Wow, you're a very organized person!!!
I miss seeing you around so I'm keeping up with your progress here. Crossing my fingers for this weekend for you. I had a big boy 9lbs. 4oz. and it wasn't that bad. He was so much stronger and sturdy that I don't even know how to hold a regular newborn!
Oh my goodness you're so organized! I was moreso with my homebirth but not this time around - the bags aren't fully packed even through the last few days of contractions!
The washcloths are most likely for perineal compress, you're right! Every homebirth kit is slightly different but I find the basics useful to have on hand even after I ended up in the hospital! Those chux pads are FABULOUS for bare bum time when trying to heal diaper rash, and the Hibiclens for sanitizing hands is just great in any first aid kit or after a particularly gunky piece of meat (well, for us hunters it is, anyway!).
Freezing pads with witch hazel is a GREAT idea, I would have never thought of that but having something drawing and astringent to sooth is a brilliant, though I hope you barely need them. I cannot understate my recommendation for a good herbal sitz bath too! You can order a variety of them online for very cheap and they're heavenly post-birth for you AND baby (I think Audra has a great picture floating around here of her and Miles in one).
Time's just chugging along in your pregnancy - here's to hoping you keep feeling good right up until birth day. Contractions aside I STILL feel pretty darn good and I know a lot of our other mommies on here did too, something about a relaxed, natural approach really seems to help with overall positive feelings and wellness right up until the end - which is invaluable in a homebirth.
More belly pictures! I demand belly spam
I agree with vanessa-my dd was 9lbs 11oz and she didnt feel much like a newborn when I first held her.
Glad to see you're doing well and getting everything prepared for baby!!!
I'm totally impressed with your organization and motivation this late in the game. I can t wait to meet your little guy and to hear all about your fab homebirth hun! Thinking of you.......only a few more days to your Maternity Leave!
Sounds like your getting good n' ready, that's fantastic! I just have to say how awsome frozen pads w/ witch hazel are, I've made them for my last 3 births and their fantastic! Much better than what the hospital has imo
I hope you have a great appt. on Wed!
Its sound like you are getting good and ready! I will be checking regularly to hear some news. I cant wait to hear how it all goes down!!!!
Well, everything is ready and in order, but that is just my personality...unfortunately, I am having this nagging feeling that my guy is too comfortable in there. I think it is because I am one of those less common people who had SROM before labor started. Both kids like nestling very low in my pelvis, but I would bet that I did all my dilation during labor last time and that is probably the case this time as well. That's ok because obviously I dilated very fast, but it makes me wonder how labor will actually start this time. Part of the curse of having a fast labor, relatively early before your EDD, is that people expect it again...so I am already getting comments about how it could be any time and wondering how fast it will be this time...even though I could just as easily go past my EDD and have a long labor. (The other bad side of a short labor is that everyone discounts your NCB, saying things like "well, I could have done it without drugs for 4 hours too"...as if the kid just slid out on her own...sigh). Oh well, he will come when he is ready. My last day of work is tomorrow and maybe he will be prompt and show up at the start of my maternity leave, just like his big sister did.
Oh and my MW had to reschedule my home visit today. I guess her son had a low grade temp yesterday and now she has it. It wasn't a big deal, but also not something she wanted to spread around. So glad she was considerate enough to reschedule! She is coming Friday morning instead and I am sure we will have another great, uneventful appointment.
People and their expectations are the worst. Although I think I found my own expectations while pregnant to be as equally frustrating lol I find the discounts disheartening as well ~ labor is labor even if it's an easy one it's still labor and our bodies are still birthing, and mostly ~ it's still wonderful!! Why we have this constant need to compare, I don't know.
Either way, yay on being ready! I Hope your appointment goes well on Friday
Yay Karly! I liked having to get all of the "stuff" together for my HB. It was a nice distraction and, like you, I prefer to be busy and organized.
You are right in expecting your labor/delivery to be different....mine were all unique. I'm so excited for you and hope you enjoy these last few pregnant days....soak it up, friend.
Last day of work!!!
How long of a maternity leave are you taking?
Last day of work!!! How long of a maternity leave are you taking?
I get the 12 weeks FMLA...not lucky enough to have the Canadian benefits. But I am lucky to work PT and have my mom watching the kids (and usually DH does one day a week, so my mom only watches them two days). I am lucky to have a good job situation...I get to use my degree, work 24 hrs a week, and provide benefits for my family. So I am trying to remember that when I think of how short 12 weeks really is...last time, I thought it would seem like forever and it went by in the blink of an eye.
Mua-a-a-a! Now that Taryl has had her baby...I must move on to stalking Karly!
Congrats on last day of work!!
I have 12 weeks too...but I'm only taking 8 because of finances. It is going to just fly by.
You sound wonderfully organized! My midwife comes to my house next week to bring the tub and birth kit, I'm so excited! Your midwife sounds just like mine, I love how our appts. are mostly just about talking and getting to know each other. It really is like going to a friends house, rather than the dr's. It has been such a relaxing pregnancy for me this time around. Looking forward to your homebirth!
12 weeks is still pretty good! I know alot of people who can only take 6 weeks because thier company's are too small for FMLA. That's great your mom is able to care for the LO's!
So how are you feeling?
Enjoy your last couple of days of work!
Let the stalking begin!
Day one of maternity leave, yay! Although it doesn't really seem like I am on leave yet, since this is not normally a day I work anyway.
My appt went well with my MW (and one of her assistants). They always enjoy seeing my DD and sitting to chat for awhile. My BP was good, baby's HR was good and his position was LOA which my MW was happy to exclaim was "perfect." We all agreed that I seemed a little too cheerful and comfortable to go into labor today and I am now officially further along (by one day) than when I gave birth to my DD. I feel like maybe that will take some of the pressure from other people off of me...since every was always commenting about second babies coming earlier, etc. My MW confirmed that this is often not the case and I am happy to wait and see which day he chooses for his birthday.
This is always about the point in pregnancy when I am most sad, listening to other pregnant mamas...I know many have had hard pregnancies and everyone is anxious to meet their LOs, but it's hard to hear people being told their babies are "too big" and other reasons to induce which undermine the body's ability to birth a baby that it grew. My RL friend is having going to the OB today at 40w3d and the discussion topic is induction. This is her third baby and both of her other two came naturally (well, the second one she had a membrane sweep) right around their EDDs...for some reason this OB has put doubt in her mind that her baby will come out on it's own. I know they are just starting with some Cervadil to see if they can ripen her cervix (she has not been dilated), but I really hope that is all she will do and that after two great NCBs, her final birth goes in a way she is happy with. Anyway, just had all this running through my mind today...
Karly, you do sound happy and cheerful! Yay for Maternity leave!! I'm so glad for you that you have a great mw!, that you're all set up and ready to go, wo being pressured to go! and I'm sorry about your friend being pressured. Have a super great, relaxing day!:D
Hi Karly. Happy maternity leave! I loved having about one week off before I had Miles. Very refreshing and gave me time to focus and prepare for birth.
Hope your friend gets the birth she desires.
Happy maternity leave!!!
Ya know, if an OB isn't confident in a woman's ability to birth her baby on her own, s/he shouldn't be an OB. But I know I'm preaching to the choir here so I'll keep off my soap box lol I can understand why that would make you sad though, it's a pitty he's giving her doubt esp. considering she's succesfully given birth on her own twice.
So glad to read your feeling well, that's fantastic!
You do sound great! My dd came at 38 weeks and I was really expecting that with my second pg, but he didn't come until 39 1/2 weeks. Babies come when they are meant to come. Yay for a great appt and maternity leave!
WOOHOO for Maternity leave! Enjoy it!
Karly, I'm so honored to be able to share in a second birth w/ you! I'm just finding time back on here, so I need to go back and read your lodge, but I've missed you!
I know you're going to have another beautiful birth!
Hi Ayelet! I have missed you too. The wonderful support you gave me on my last lodge are words that will be in my heart forever. I am so glad you had time to stop by and I hope Tani and Odeliya are doing well...keeping you busy, I am sure!
I bet you have your little man while I'm on vacation. I just have a feeling that you and Aimee (well I know Aimee will, since her's is scheduled) will both have your baby's while I'm gone!!!
So be ready next week! LOL
Just a fly by to let you know that I am thinking of you darlin and that I simply cannot tell you how much I look forward to hearing about your birth and the intro of your sweet son into your family. You are a beautiful gracious blessed pregnant woman and I simply KNOW with all of my being that you are going to make such a wonderful Mom to TWO!
Aww, thanks Melissa!
I got an email update from my friend last night saying that her NST went well and her baby is now engaged in a good position. That got the OB off her back about the induction for now and they just stripped her membranes. She was having a few contractions her and there, so I am sure she is on her way. I feel so relieved. I just didn't want her last birth to be a medical on, as I know how unhappy she would have been and how much anxiety she was feeling about it. (And I also knew she wasn't really informed enough to stand up to the OB and her DH who is a PA).
Anyway, my MW was right when she said I was too cheerful to have a baby yesterday. We'll see if some walking and grocery shopping helps with my too cheerful mood today.
I wonder what will be in the cards for you and little man in the next couple of weeks!
I am glad your friends baby is locked and loaded!
So glad your friend got the OB off her back. You do sound great! Hopefully it won't be much longer!
Sounds like things are going well for you Karly! Enjoy your mat leave, and this last little bit of time with your DD as your only baby.
I just wanted to let you know I'm stalking you Karly I love your attitude. You seem so happy and relaxed. I hope you enjoy the last bit of your pregnancy.
We got to call my mom this morning and break the sad news to her that she was wrong and the little guy didn't make his appearance on the 24th, LOL! I think the next bet is my brother's, for the 29th. We shall see.
I think it's fun to not deliver on a predicted day. my coworkers have a calendar with their guesses when I'll have the baby. So far 2 people are wrong, and NOBODY has picked up to my due date or past it! Hope your mom's not too disappointed!
Happy Maternity leave!! Funny how you had to "break the bad news"...lol. People are convinced I'm going to be early...no specific dates, but I have a feeling I'm gonna prove them wrong. Hope you are enjoying your weekend!
It is so funny how people will try to predict when your baby will come, but in the end, your baby will decide!
Enjoy your mat leave!!!
The first day of my maternity leave was fun. DD and I met my mom at the botanical gardens and had a nice picnic and walked for a long time. I still think the little guy is way too comfortable in there. The downside of having BH ctx for the majority of both pregnancies is that my cervix must be like steel, LOL. DD managed to break my water and start labor, but my MW said that is rare and probably won't be likely to happen this time...so although my kid is low and ready to go, we just sit here waiting...and probably "high, tight and closed." Oh well, who doesn't want to be 38+ weeks pregnant in the muggy heat of late July?
Have my weekly MW appt today and then we will probably do some more walking. It's a bit uncomfortable with my pelvic pain and my abdomen in a constant BH ctx, but I figure it can't hurt and hopefully helps to move things forward a little...at least it will kick start me back into workout mode after the little guy is here!
I hope you have a good appointment. Do you get internals?
