Today was a harder day! I am a big believer that your body won't grow a baby too big for you to birth in most cases (and in the absence of medical issues like GD). But knowing how hard it was for me to push out my small DD (who had a smaller head size) has me freaking out about pushing out this guy...especially since he seems in no hurry to come out, so is just lounging in there, getting bigger and bigger. If I had heard 8 pounds for my first birth, I wouldn't have thought anything of it, but now I am having some anxiety and also wonder if that is why he is taking longer to come and I am not going into labor.
Sorry for the vent. I am sure I will be better tomorrow. Not like I can put him on a diet anyway.
I've heard baby #2 can be easier, and I hope that's true. Also, you will be in the comforts of your own home, so I'm sure that will help. I totally understand what your are saying though...you can't help but wonder!
I've also heard people who've had smaller babies and larger babies say the bigger ones were easier to push out. . .the crowning may not be so easy, but I'm sure you can do it!
Hey Karly! I am in the same boat! Brynn was 7lbs even...and they are already telling me this one is gonna be a big one:rolleyes:
but just keep reminding your self that little Kailey has already paved the way for a baby just about a year and a half ago. My sisters first was 8lbs 12 oz:eek:
I am sure things will go just fine...I am sending your little boy ((((((((get the show on the road))))))) vibes
My BFF's first baby was 5 lbs 6 ozs (at 33 weeks.) He was not an easy baby to push out. She just had her second baby 4 days ago. He was 7 lbs 14 ozs and was out in 20 minutes. My babies were almost a pound and a half apart but didn't feel any different coming out.
Hey, it might be easier the 2nd time around. My dd was 9 lbs 11oz (we had issues with her head being so big but she was 2w overdue to boot).
Karly-- it is SO much easier with baby two. I promise My girls were 7 lbs 6 oz-- and 8 lbs even. Callie was just over 20 minutes- and Taya was 2.5 hours and a vacuum (hospital delivery!)
You can do this and it will be great!!! I'm so excited for you!
I've always heard the second one is easier!!!! Good luck! I'm sure you will do great.
Eight pounds well positioned isn't hard at all, I actually really enjoyed pushing Lilah out (of course I'm a freak and was just so excited to be PUSHING, instead of cut, that maybe that skewed my perception ) and the baby fat squishes.
Could you possibly start a new project or book to take your mind off being pregnant? I reread some of my favorite stories and it really helped distract me!
Oh my gosh.... your ticker says 4 days!!! Thats not even a whole hand! Your almost there girl, hang in there.
Because of all my misgivings about size and position of the baby, my MW thought it would be a good idea to do a cervical check to feel if his head was positioned correctly and said she could also do a membrane sweep. She checked and said his head might be posterior or anterior (pretty sure it's anterior), as she didn't get a good feel since he moves up a little when I lay down...but either way, it was straight and won't be an issue. I was dilated to a 3...which always amazes me with the absence of anything other than the BH ctx I have had the whole pregnancy. I went ahead and had the sweep, since it won't do anything if I am not ready anyway. She said my cervix was nice and stretchy. After she was done she said I was about a 5! It doesn't mean much because it could just shrink back down, but she said that explains part of why my labor with DD went so quickly. I guess if anything is going to happen as a result of the sweep, it should be within the next 48 hrs. My bag of water was already slightly bulging before the sweep, so she said it was likely that whatever happens was already set to happen. We'll see. No cramping or anything yet. But I do feel very patient now, knowing that he is positioned well and still not feeling much bigger than last week (guess was that we are still in the "7s" for weight). Good appt.
Wow!! What an exciting appointment! It amazes me how much less work and time it takes for btdt moms to dilate. I guess its like riding a bike Sure sounds like you will have your lo very shortly!
Yay for good appointment!!
Karly, can I trade you? I envy your short labors. Anxiously awaiting your LO!!!
I'm glad you had a good appointment and can take a deep sigh of relief that all will be fine. I'm anxiously awaiting the next 48 hours to see if we get to meet a new baby!
So happy to hear your appointment went so well!!! I'll be stalking your lodge to see what happens now :bigarmhug: sending tons of ELVs!!!
Well so far it's been about 4 hours and other than a little pink right after the sweep, I have not had so much as a cramp or even really much discomfort. I am not thinking I will go into labor necessarily, but I didn't have a single sign before going into labor with DD either, so you never know. I was just glad to hear everything was on track and progressing. I can't even stress enough how awesome my MW is! She has so much confidence and skill, but it never feels like she is doing anything other than telling you the truth instead of just trying to be positive, if that makes sense. She is just so relaxed about birthing and confident in a mama's body to get the job done. It's such an amazing experience. I wish every woman could have a practitioner like her, regardless of where you choose to birth your baby. She also provides doula services and I can see her really rocking a hospital birth as well, LOL.
Yay Karly!!! You are nearly halfway there....woot! I always stay closed up tight until full on labor so I envy those that get to do pre-work--lol.
And I ditto you on the careprovider-- just having someone who knows you and that you trust and have a relationship with-- every woman deserves that in her birth experience IMO.
Good luck I hope the sweep works for you
I can't believe how close you are to your due date!! I hope the sweep gets things going!!
That is great news Karly! See! You have been "laboring" all along! LOL!
My prediction is you will be spending the weekend getting aquainted with your son
I hope the sweep works for you. Sounds like things may move along quickly
Wooooo!!!! Exciting....I can't wait to see what happens in the next day or so. I am glad that you had a great appt and that your midwife is so fabulous. Your homebirth is going to be so fabulous!
This little guy is soooo stubborn, LOL! I think he will be baking at least until more toward the end of the week. I haven't had any painful ctx from the sweep, just some pressure since it let even more amniotic fluid in front of his head. Oh well. I feel good and slept well, so we'll see what he has planned for his birth day.
lol Darn him for being comfy in there! Hope he makes his appearance soon
Glad you got some sleep, at least. Can't wait to hear if things pick up soon.
Nope, no baby yet. I kind of knew the membrane sweep wouldn't help (since I was already dilated and not having ctx...I just felt he wasn't ready or he would come on out). Just focusing on my MWs email I read this morning, especially:
I know it is hard to wait now, but really you have just a matter of days
left. We just don't know exactly how many
You are doing fine. One day at a time. You'll get there. If you feel
like you are losing your mind, call me. I'll give you a pep talk and we
can also talk about all of your options.
I love her.
I just went to the bathroom and had a handful (literally) of pink mucous. What the heck was that?! LOL. So weird. My MW had said the MP was probably gone in bits and pieces before the membrane strip and I never had more than some slight pink after the strip. My MWs email also mentioned giving him time to position himself if he needs it, so maybe he has moved around some and I am dilating even more. Who knows? DH has said for the past few days (even before the membrane strip) that he thought the 7th would be the day. When he left this morning, he said he would be waiting for the call...of course, he also said that if it happened close to midnight, I would have to hold him in so that he has the cool birthday of 8/8/08. I told him that he was the time keeper, so that would be his responsibility to make the call on the time. (He also called the time for DD's birth). We shall see.
I've been thinking all along that he was waiting to have the 08-08-08 birth date
I have a friend who had her son on 07-07-07...he was three days late on purpose, just for that! LOL
You are definitely gearing up though! YAY!
Hmmm.....that is a good sign! Your midwife sounds so wonderful!
A new sign!! Hope it means something!! And what an encouraging midwife you have!! How wonderful!!
Wow how weird would that be if your dh called the exact birthday! Sure sounds like it will be soon for you.
ps.. i dont think there is such thing as TMI in a birth lodge lol
a new sign sounds promising -08-08-08 is a good birthdate
Love your MW. It is just a matter of days now. Today is Taya's birthday...it is a good day IMO (she was 4 days "late"--lol.)
KUP. I'm convinced though that once things start happening you won't really have time to update-- You 'll just come back on with a baby in hand (that is what I did ) Labor was too quick to really pop on and write on here....lol.
um no, I totally expect a play by play! Don't listen to Audra
just kidding! I totally agree. I keep waiting for you to post nothings happening and than like 4 hours later post, oh he's here!
I don't think there's such a thing as TMI in a birth lodge either :). Hope this is it for you...but your midwife had some very encouraging and relaxing things to say! KUP!!!
Thinking of you, hope you continue to progress
Hoping baby does get th 08-08-08 birthday, it would be a really cool birthday! My DS was born 06-06-06. I called his birthdate right from the day I found out I was pregnant, even though I was due 05-30-06, I just knew that my little devil would come on 6-6-6!
oohhh sounds promising!!! You've a wonderful midwife I agree, that e-mal was great!
I think tomorrow would be a good birthday!
That was such a sweet, calming email from your MW. She sounds great.
Wishing you a 8-8-8 baby
Lol1 Isnt it funny how when we are waiting labor the grossest and move uncomfortable things make us so excited because it means babies arrival is near!
i cant beleive its already Thursday! Heres wishing you a 8-8-8 boy!
No word, I am thinking this is a great sign! Pink CM is ALWAYS good this late in the game and your body knows what to do
Well, I wish it was an even better sign, LOL! No more mucous yesterday, but some more this morning, although not really pink. I guess I am not too excited, because dilation has never been an issue for me...just need some labor to kick start things.
Male intuition is not very fine tuned I suppose and DH is now saying it will be today. Ha! We shall see.
Checking in to see how you are doing-male intuition, hmmm, must be a guy thing
Fingers crossed for you Karly I hope today is the day for you
He WILL come out eventually. He just wants it to be a surprise!!
Hey Karly! I don't think I have written in your blog at all, I am so sorry for that! I do hope your beautiful boy makes a wonderful arrival whenever that may be although the 08/08/08 would be pretty darn cool! Happy birthing my dear!!
Keeping my fingers crossed for some nice progress. My dh's birthday is today, I'm sure he wouldn't mind sharing with your sweet little one.
