Alright, again, it COULD be the stress of getting everyone ready and out the door for school and my stressing over the bp itself... but at the nurse's office, it was 122/90 again.
I'll be cleaning the stuff that I can clean while sitting and resting today. I do NOT want this getting any higher. I really wish dh could take the day off today but I know he can't unless I'm in labor. The main thing that needs to be done is folding clothes, so I think I can handle that, though.
The nurse also said just from looking at me that she doesn't see me making it past the weekend. Of course people say things all the time, like the "oh you're carrying so high!" when I'm obviously fairly low type stuff. But I've been thinking since last night that I just don't think there's much time left. that may bite me in the butt - I hate saying it, because then when its 3 more weeks I feel dumb LOL. But I just don't think it'll be much longer. I don't want to put any specifics on it, but I really wouldn't be suprised if it were in the next couple of days. My cervix (of course, after all the contrax last night, I checked it today) is still far to the back but softer than I thought possible. While I haven't lost any of what I typically consider "plug" - I think my plug is just not as gross this time or something. I've had the gel-type stuff, just not that yucky... and today its a much thinner consistency - which is what I got the DAY before Mikayla came. Again, I"m not getting my hopes up, but I just really don't see it being much longer.
I'll update again after I talk to my midwife. I also want to talk with her about at what point we'd start talking about natural induction due to the BP. And another thing that had been bothering m - if I'm not willing to induce for convenience reasons, such as getting the provider you want, then is it really much different to take the wild yam for convenience reasons? I think that if we knew for SURE she couldn't make it, like last night when I was having contrax at 10 PM and there was no chance she'd make it before lunch time today, then its worth it to take the stuff, because otherwise I raise my risk of going to the hospital, which especially after seeing it, I don't want. But at the same time, I hate manipulating when the baby comes based on convenience. So I'm torn.
Oh, and my nurse/doula friend said that the hospital, because they're so crowded is VERY "assembly-line." They don't let women labor naturally for long because they don't have time for long labors - they need to get you in and out. So if I go, I think I'll be showing up pushing.
Talked to her. She said not to freak out yet. She said its high, but not time to freak yet. She also seems to agree that stressing out a bit is contributing. Since both last night and this morning, I was a bit stressed. I forgot to mention on here - I'd also been popped with hot grease twice while cooking! grr... She said that being injured and in a hurry while cooking could definitely contribute. Same with trying to hurry to get us all dressed and out of the house this AM.
I wish I could find a way to de-stress our mornings. I have a hard enough time getting up as it is, though, I can't get up any earlier.
Since she wasn't concerned too much about the bp, we didn't get into the induction talk at all and I didn't bother bringing up the stopping labor talk either. We'll just cross that bridge if we come to it.
She says for me to make SURE I'm getting 80-100 of protein per day and try epsom salt baths to get the BP under control.
I asked too about the baby's position. We think that his head IS staying in the right position, and he's just twisting his torso around enough that he feels posterio. While I've felt some low painful movement, I just don't think that his shoulders have been fully turning from front to back. As low as he is, I think I'd for sure feel that happening. The midwife said yesterday at the appointment that he wasn't posterior, and I felt it and could feel the back then too. A couple hours later, i felt no major movements, but coudlnt' find a back anywhere. SO I think that's what he's doing. That makes me feel better. Also, I played around with our stethoscope last night, and its not hard at all to find the baby's heart! So I feel good knowing that before she gets here, we can monitor his heart during labor without a doppler.
Okay, I'm going to rest and clean upstairs for a while.
Down to 100/80 when dh was home for lunch.
And I promise I"ll respond to some other posts this evening, assuming I'm not in labor. I know I've been awfully self absorbed in the last couple days. talk about serial posting! LOL
Glad the bp is down, it is amazing how stress can pop that bp up. I know my bp is always higher at my appointments that require bloodwork, because it freaks me out so much. As to the slowing labor, I understand where you are coming from and not wanting to mess with nature. I think that is completely understandable. I think the question you need to ask yourself is which would bother you more, taking the yam and slowing your labor down enough for your mw to make it, or not taking it and possibly having to go to that hospital. I think whichever bothers you more is what you should go with. And hopefully you will not have to do either.
You know what - good point. I'd rather screw with nature that tiny bit and up my odds of her making it here. And if the kid wants out bad enough - he'll come out, wild yam or not. There. that was easy. (thinking about how much I disliked the hospital makes it easier LOL)
Let me just say this, without putting too much meaning behind it - the intensity and frequency of the "bh's" I've had the past two days is exactly what I had for the first 12 hours of labor with Mikayla. Only diff is that my cervix was already 4 cm, 75% effaced, and had a bulging amniotic sac for those 12 hours, and my cervix isn't near that far along yet. But the contrax themselves are pretty much identical. So... I just doubt that I'll stay at this point without progression for much longer. I just don't know if it'll be hours or days before it changes.
I"m going to take a wild guess that the kid is on his way.
Over yesterday, the discharge thinned out throughout the day. I could also just feel the pressure building in my pelvis, and manually, I could feel that his head was moving downward. The contrax were a tiny bit stronger. As I told the midwife - "I can walk through them, but you know, I'd rather not..."
So every time I woke up to pee overnight, I checked to see if I happened to be progressing. Here's the thing - his head is in FRONT Of my cervix, not over it. I can barely reach my cervix because his head is bulging downward in front of it. I have a friend who had what I think was this same issue, and they ended up binding her belly to pull his body inward toward her back to realign him. I'll be asking if that's something we need to consider.
But the big reason why I'd say he's coming today... or if we're looking at a long labor, tomorrow:
I just woke up at 4 am (the same time I've woken up for each of my labors) and not only was there a ton more discharge, we've got some red blood mixed in.
I could be wrong. I know some people get blood tinged stuff for days. But literally, I bump into his head through the vaginal wall at about an inch and a half up. That head goes down much lower, literally, he'd fall out LOL. The cervix is all we're waiting on and I know it HAS to be changing some to have red blood. And the contrax are picking up a bit in both frequency and strength.
I started this at 4:09 and its now 4:14 and I've had 3 short ones - all very mild. I can't feel dilation well at all since I can't reach all of it, but I seem to still only be about 50% effaced.
I foresee a longish early labor again. So assuming this is it - you'll probably still hear from me at least a few more times. If its not it... I'll let ya know!
OH - the first flight of the day would get her to my house by around 10, the next one by around 11. The first one leaves at 7:20 am, but goes to Raleigh, the second at 9:30 but comes in to Fayetteville. With RDU, there's an hour drive involved, which would suck. But anyway, I'll be calling her around 5:30 to see what she thinks. I hate for her to just sit around here all day if I'm SOOOOO slowly progressing, but I also hate to say that if I"m not progressing much NOW, then wait until later to come, because then what happens if it picks up suddenly? So, some prayers for wisdom for us both, to determine which flight to take, would be much appreciated!
Okay, having some mini ones too, but the strongish, longish (but still easy) ones are coming in around every 10 minutes. Still I'm too anxious to sleep, so I'm going to start cleaning the upstairs while the kids are sleeping and there are no guests here LOL. I'll probably take a nap later - labor or no labor.
Hungry, but don't know what I want to eat. And we're honestly pretty low on food - I'll be sending dh to the store later. We were waiting for payday to go shopping again. That's tomorrow. Of course! LOL
Actually, I want cereal. But we're out. And out of milk. We have eggs, and I could probably use the protein, but they just don't sound yummy. I thought about a protein shake but the kind we bought just isn't very good. what to do... what to do?
Oh, it's 5:30... time to call the midwife. (I think we'll wind up going with the later flight though.)
Nevermind. In analyzing it - the drive to RDU is 1:30-2 hours. So she wouldn't get here until close to 11 anyway. If both flights would get her here around 11, there's no point in her taking the one that leaves 2 hours earlier! SO I'll let her sleep a while longer and see how it goes. First flight to here is at 9:30, she'd be here by 11:30 at the latest. So I can wait a couple more hours to call.
Progress - I'd say we're at 75% effaced now. That darn head is still pretty far forward making it hard to reach. If it weren't so early in the AM, I'd get my nurse/doula friend to come over and give me her opinion on it.
Starting a new one instead of editing the old.
I just made a protein shake and drank a few gulps and it tastes like puppy breath. Gross. I think labor screws with your taste buds.
I'll keep editing this one for a while now, until it gets long.
uuuuughghhh. must go brush teeth now.
Called the midwife, she'll be heading out for the 9:30 flight that gets here at 11. We're going to take Aaric in to school and then go get some groceries together. I dont' want to stay here alone, but also feel like it would be a waste to get someone over here to laborsit when I'm this early in labor. We've also still got to run to the hardware store to get the hose adapter for the sink.
I'll update again when I get back home from the errands!
(((hugs))) I'm thinking about you and I'm extremely excited that you seem to be moving along!!!
Have I mentioned that Arbonne sells protein shakes? They have stevia in them for a sweetner (not sure if that's pg-safe) so some people can't stand them, but if you know anyone near you who would have some, at least it's healthier than something you'd buy at the grocery store.
Woo hoo! Sounds like things are happening! Good luck!
Great news, Kelly. I'll be watching your lodge throughout the day!!!
I got your YIM msg - I am SO stalking you! *squeels like a little school girl*
Good luck Kelly!!
We took A to school and then headed to Lowe's. Not wanting to freak them out, we didn't mention the whole thing about me being in labor and the guy was taking forever helping us. So we finally just left and he went in Home Depot and I went in Target (they're beside each other) so I could grab food and he could look for the parts. We both got done around the same time. Hectic morning!
The 9:30 flight was full, so she's catching the 12:30 one. I think I can hold out that long! That'll put her getting to our house shortly after 2.
Physically I'm about the same. Cervix is almost done effacing, I'd say I'm around 3 cm, but its still hard to reach. Babysitter is on stand-by and the doula/nurse wasn't home when I called a minute ago.
Omigosh, what an UPDATE! How terrific you are doing that during labor.
Sending you all good wishes and can't wait to hear.
I am stalking you too Kelly! ((((((((((((((ELV))))))))
Oh Kelly!!! How exciting!!
And what perfect timing in light of your sudden bp issues. I will be stalking throughtout the day and wishing you a beautiful birth!
Unbelievable. The 12:30 flight just got cancelled due to mechanical problems. So she'll be checking out the next couple Raleigh flights, which dh is NOT looking forward to driving to.
OH NO!! How are you doing Kelly? I know this is not a steback you wanted!
Knowing that you're in labor is exciting enough, but I have to say that your midwife situation adds a whole other element of drama! This is going to be an edge-of-your-seat one I think!
Yeah, I'm starting to stress a bit! Dh is really not a big fan of driving to Raleigh today so we're trying to see if we can find a plan b for that and keep him at home.
I'm definitely on the edge of MY seat! OMG! I'm sending you ELV and good transportation vibes for your midwife! I just feel that everything is going to be okay.... GL from another stalker!
Can she rent a car??
Wow Kelly congratulations! Wishing you a safe and easy labour and that your m/w is able to get there easily! Airline IROPs suck, what a great reminder that I'm happy to be on mat leave LOL!! Perhaps given the situation, the airline could pay to transport her from the one airport to the other? Since it is an airline controllable delay and not weather related? Good luck!!
Oh, she could drive... but its 8 hrs.
She's scheduled for the 1pm one now, lands at 2:20, would be here by around 4.
She says for me not to worry, that she's prayed over it and this baby isn't coming until she gets here.
I think its actually been a good 20 minutes since I had a contraction. Oh, there's one now LOL.
I'm fully effaced and 2-3 cm. She said "okay, now leave it alone. no more touching allowed." LOL
She said that its not going to happen, but that if the contrax start acting like active labor, I can take some yam and slow it down and drink some wine and go nap.
Alright, got that worked out. The doula friend is going to the airport instead of DH.
Mikayla wants to know if the baby will be able to crawl today.
just wanted to say GL hun! i really hope she makes it (i agree though a glass of wine would be perfect for you right now)
i am so exctited. This is finaly it for you. the rate you are updating us you won't need to write a birth story!!!! Just kidding we will want to hear every single detail later. Sending you elv and safe quick trip for you midwife!
You have so much presence of mind at this time. That's great. Hurray for you and your baby on the way!
Well, I should say that it was like this with Mikayla too - the labor that is, not the stress. I had 12 hours of early labor. People came over to see me and then went and told others that I wasn't in labor. Its not at a point where I have to focus through them or anything. I'm just hanging out! We know its labor but its early still.
The part I actually came to update about though:
She's on the plane!!
And I've actually got two friends working together to get her to my house. One is another doula/CBE who lives up that way, who is going to pick her up and then she'll drive halfway down here (its about an hour and a half total drive) and then the other one, the one that's planned to be here all along, will meet her and they'll switch off and that one will bring her to my house. About 3 more hours and she'll be here. An hour and a half in the air and an hour and a half on the road.
Glad she's on her way, Kelly!
I'm so excited for you Kelly!
Oooooh, I'm so jealous of you right now, Kelly!!!
My EDD buddy and you're going to beat me!
Praying for an easy labor and a safe flight for your MW!
I am so glad that she is in the air!!
Just checking up on you.
Glad to hear you got the midwife thing worked out. Because really, you need a bit more stress today. bwahahahahaha.
Yam to slow labor down, eh?? I'd never heard that.
Keep up the good work.
I'm so relieved to hear the MW is in the air! You're doing great!!!
That's BRILLIANT kelly!! I am SO glad that things have worked themselves out & that your m/w is on a plane!! HURRAY!!!
Gobs & gobs of ELV's!!!!!!
Yeah - not yams like you'd eat, wild yam root supplements. Works the same as in early pregnancy - progesterone supplements are made with either WYR or soy, and low progresterone levels can cause m/c. Same thing now - progesterone starts dropping when labor starts. In fact, charting works in late pg too - progesterone is what causes the temps to rise after ovulation. And if you're pg, they stay in that post-O phase. Well, in late pg, if you chart it, you'd see your temp drop around 24 hours prior to labor. I've always wanted to try it, but I'm too lazy to remember to chart if I don't have to LOL.
I"ll be taking a nap in a little bit. With any luck, I'll wake up around the time the mw arrives, in active labor.
Wanted to mention something else so I don't forget. A frequent question is about babies slowing down toward the end. Not this kid! He is so far, still just as active today as he ever has been. He's quite the wiggle worm!
Good luck, Kelly... have a great nap!!
...and then come back and update us because we are stalking you!
:bighug: I'm thinking of you today Kelly. You just can't do things the easy way can you? Can't wait to meet your new little man!!!
Just wanted to let you know I've been thinking about you and praying for you all day. I knew I could check on here and get the play by play of your labor. Boy are you keeping us all on the edge of our seats! I'm so excited he's finally going to be here. I'm praying you have a quick and easy labor and delivery and I can't wait to see him!
Sorry for the triple post- my computer has gone wakco!
Oooh - how exciting, Kelly!!! I'm glad you were able to get friends to drive to get her so that your husband didn't have to. That's awesome!
lol mine were always quite active during labor too - although they did slow down (except for Seamus due to being induced) a day or so before labor started and then up'ed the activity again - and then right before the pushing would begin they'd slow down.
Anyhow - oh and hay, have ya thought of any names yet? LOL
This might be the most exciting lodge ever. I love the play-by-play, Kelly! So glad the MW is on her way and that your little one is cooperating thus far.
Also, big giggles at Mikayla's question. Kids really do say the cutest things!
I laid down for about an hour. They've still been around every 10 min, but are getting a bit stronger. More often when I get up.
I just got up to go upstairs and change from my pants to a skirt so that for now, I"m still modestly covered, but easy access. Michael's starting on the pool filling now, and I"m laying back down at least until the midwife gets here!
This is so exciting! I hope I'm able to keep people this posted during my labor.
Probably not, though. I'll be too freaked out.
Continuing to pray, Kelly!
Not much longer now!!!
How exciting! The Midwife should be there soon I imagine!
