Thank you!

About me... I'm 29 and married. DH, Dave, is 32. We live in Washington State. We met while I was a senior in college, then I went across country for two years for grad school. We got married when I came back; that was just over 5 years ago. Currently, we both work for the same employer. We started as managers for a storage facility but have progressed to construction foreman (DH) and bookkeeper (me). This position should allow me to work from home when the baby is born, at least for a while.

This was a surprise pregnancy for us. We had not been using formal birth control for a few years, but I'd always been so regular that the calendar worked fine for us. Turns out I ovulated about 2 weeks late at the time we conceived. Thus, we are expecting a little girl! She is anticipated on Nov 3rd. This will not only be our first child but the first grandchild for all our parents.

Unfortunately, I don't have any friends within normal driving distance that have had children. Thus, I'm so thankful for pregnancy.org. I've always thought that I wanted a natural childbirth but I wavered during 1st and 2nd trimester because of fear. Somehow I stumbled upon The Birth Book by Sears which has helped me tremendously to reformulate my thinking. For insurance purposes, and because I was so clueless in the beginning, I see a group of 6 midwives and will deliver with one of them at the hospital. I consider myself lucky because the midwives are generally low-intervention and the hospital is much more open to natural birth than many of the stories I've heard. They have jacuzzi tubs and birth balls, etc and actually encourage their use.

Okay, that is plenty info for now.

Thank you again for my lodge, I'm so excited to be getting this close!

Overall, I've had a healthy pregnancy. I've had a lot of aches and pains, but my little girl has always been active and all my tests have been great. I've had a few high BP scores but they've always been fine later. Thank goodness.

Today I was diagnosed with PUPPP, it itches terribly! Just another thing that doesn't endanger me or my little girl but drives me nuts.

Dave and I keep looking at each other and agreeing that we only need one child! Smile Pregnancy has been a lot tougher that I ever expected. With about 4 weeks left, I'm starting to get to that point of "get her out of me!" The biggest thing I will miss is feeling her move. I love it when she kicks or turns. She rarely causes any pain and it is so reassuring.

Welcome to your lodge and congratulations on nearing the end!

I hadn't before heard of PUPPP but just googled it and it does sound awfully itchy. Can you put any type of cream on it to help? I hope t goes away quickly for you.

Congrats on your lodge!! I hope these final weeks wiz by for you.

Sorry to hear about the PUPPP - that is truly a horrible thing to experience in late pregnancy. I got it with my first pregnancy and I wanted to rip all my skin off.

Any advice? So far, very cold showers are a nice temporary relief. Can't take those at work though!

Appt today

Had an appointment today. Didn't think I was going to have an internal, but had a different MW today who likes to do them at 36W to get a baseline. I could have declined it and would have a couple weeks ago, but my determination is weakening. I itch so bad, all I can think of is "when will this be over". I keep trying to remind myself that I really will miss being pregnant and feeling her move.

Went to see MW today. Had to follow up on the meds they gave me for my PUPPP. They restated that there is not much they can do, the rashes won't go away until after baby is born!!!

They did the GBS test today and an internal. 50% effaced, 0 dilated.

BP was within normal ranges and weight actually went down since last week. That is great since they had put me on partial bedrest last week because my BP had been up and I'd gained 6 lbs in a week.

Saw a different MW this week, miss my normal MW but her schedule is really busy so it is hard to get in with her now that I have weekly appts. The MW this week suggested that I didn't need to come back next week, but I refuse to cancel the appt because it is with my regular MW and I'd love her moral support right now. Besides my normal MW wants me on weekly appts, and I still want to review my formal Birth Plan with her.

Stephanie, how awful about the PUPP rash. I had it in each of my pregnancies. It is really tough. Delivery really does do the trick.

Here is what worked for me in case you find it useful. I was trying creams, cortisone, cold packs. Oatmeal didn't work. Just everything I could think of. Then I got a cold and took 2 15-30 minute showers (morning and night) to try to drain out my nose. Well, hello, something about the water removing the oils from my belly, but didn't I have a much easier time with the rash. My midwife had described it as "angry" and then it was so much better. Not gone, but bearable.

Try that and tell me what you think. Try to scratch with your fingers over your shirt, not directly on your tummy.

Yippee! Officially part-time at work now. Can set my own hours for the most part. Have to carry my cell phone around, but excited to have some freedom from work.

Feeling healthy. I think I've been feeling some small contractions but nothing major and hard to tell. Honestly, I expect this little girl will hang in there for a few more weeks. She is still head down and I'm pretty sure she is facing sideways.

Skin drives me nuts. Very cold showers help the most, also found some benadryl spray which helps on targeted areas. Stopped using the steriod cream, it wasn't helping at all.

Sorry, not much to say the last couple days.

I've found some good coping techniques for the itching and happy to be managing well. It still itches and keeps me up part of the night, but I'm not in tears from it anymore. Actually feel like I could manage a couple more weeks of this.

DTD this weekend, something DH has been avoiding as I get bigger and more cumbersome. Was kind of hoping it might stimulate labor, but no luck.

Trying hard to wear my nipple shields to deal with inverted nipples. It has been hard because of itching (yes, on my breasts and nipples too!). I think the shields are helping though. Unfortunately, one of the side affects is that they have started leaking.

DH is really nervous about labor, probably more nervous than I am. He asked me again this weekend if I'm still serious about not wanting pain meds. I wish he understood better. I told him again that I don't want to be offered pain meds. I'm sticking to the "I'll ask for them if I want them" philosophy. Out of everyone, he would be in the most influential role to sway my decision, so I really want him to understand what I want. Unfortunately, he is nervous.

Looking forward to an appointment on Wed. with my normal MW.

Stuck at work today. Someone called in sick (actually, his car broke down) so that leaves me to cover the office. Not overly happy about it, had to set the alarm for the 1st time in a week. Dave was upset, couldn't understand why the guy wouldn't just get a ride or take the bus.

Still feeling very pregnant. Dave and I going to our friends' house for dinner. Looking forward to the distraction. Long nights and weekends at home are making me antsy for something to happen.

Appointment is tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing my MW.

Had a good appt today. Mostly just routine. BP fine. Heartbeat fine. Used this week to ask a lot of questions.

My little girl is currently posterior, so I get to spend the rest of the pregnancy trying to make sure she turns. I'm not overly concerned yet. At last week's appt she was sideways, so she is obviously still moving around.

Found out that my hospital and caregivers do not require an IV unless I want an epidural. I'm very happy about this news, I was under the impression originally that they did require one.

I officially have 3 weeks to go into labor on my own, after that it is an induction. Hoping I won't make it anywhere near that 3 weeks!

Glad to hear that you had a good appointment today and that you are finding coping methods for the rash.......reading your posts made me itchy, I swear!!!
Is there anything in particular that your midwife recommended to help a baby turn from Posterior to Anterior? Just curious.

Good news on the IV too, Im sure you will love the freedom that offers you to move around Smile

I was afraid of the same thing with my dh, however at our childbirth class the other night we went through the pros & cons of narcotics and epi's, after seeing that dh was absolutely convinced he wants no meds for us. Maybe that would help your dh? There is no med out there (that I'm aware of) thats proven to not affect the baby. Husband Coached Childbirth has a lot of stuff about what meds can do to baby. I asked my grandma about it too since she's a retired ob nurse to see if she saw what the book mentions and she said she did.

Cold, wet wash rags are the best thing for my itching. The itching has actually tapered off a little from the beginning, plus you kind of get used to it. I still have a hard time at night. It can drive me batty when I can't sleep, but during the day I manage just with the cold wash rags and really cold showers.

For turning a posterior baby... just laying on my knees with my head on the floor. Reclining in a chair or on couch is actually a bad position and encourages a baby to be posterior. Hands and knees position encourages baby to turn around. When a woman has back labor they encourage hands and knees with hip rocking to help move the baby into correct postion.

OH, and good news... GBS was negative so definately no IV required!

Yeah for the megatice GBS and sorry DH does not understand how important it is to you not to have meds. Maybe you could give him some info on the negative affects of epidurals. I know the more mt DH reads the more on board he is. Good luck.

I don't know if it is good or not, but I haven't been feeling any contractions. No BH at all, although the MW said I was obviously having one during the last appointment. Seems strange to me that I have no clue they are even happening! They must be happening, not sure why I don't notice.

I never feel mine either I only notice them because when I touch my bell it is rock hard. I like to reassure myself by rubbing his butt (it is always on my left side) so I am constantly touching my belly and that is when I notice the BH's. If I was not doing that I would not feel mine either, so I would not sweat it. I have also noticed I get them most often in the middle of night, so maybe that is also wh you are not noticing.
