Hi Theresa - welcome to your lodge! Way to go being 3 cm at 36 weeks! :woohoo:
Congratulations on your lodge! Looking forward to reading your journey!
Looking forward to reading your story!
3cm @ 36wks, go you! lol Welcome to your lodge!!
Congrats on your progress and your lodge.
Hi Theresa! Welcome to your lodge!
How exciting! Well I guess I'll share how DH and I met and how we got where we are today
DH and I are both from the same very small hometown in Michigan of only about 3,000 people (I graduated with 176 kids). However we didn't know each other and we grew up 1/2 mile apart and even had a mutual friend (DH is 4 yrs older and 5 grades older in school so we never ran in to each other)! :!: The only reason we met is because I had moved to Indianapolis in Aug '00 for a guy I had been dating for 3 years and he had moved to Indianapolis in March '00 for a girl he had been dating long distance and was actually engaged to. Well by Dec/Jan both of our relationships had ended, but we still hadn't met yet. My mom works at a health ins. co. and his mom has that health ins. and she called customer service one day and my mom answered. They realized they were both from Chesaning and knew each other and got to talking about their kids, etc.
Well of course my mom passed my number along to his mom and he called me sometime in February. We talked on the phone for about a month (well actually I never called him since I was getting over a serious relationship and was worried about him having "issues" since he was just ending an engagement). I finally decided to call him and get together, even if we were just friends, and we've been together ever since. The craziest part is that even if our mom's hadn't basically set us up, we would of met anyways at a volunteer program we were both joining in April. So it was fate... he truly is my soulmate and my best friend. :cloud9:
We got married in June 2005 and moved back to Michigan in August 2005. We always said we'd wait a couple years to have kids but quickly changed our minds. I went off the pill Jan '06 and got pg in Feb but had a m/c in April '06. :angel7:
Fortunately we got pg again in May and everything had been going textbook until I hit 31 wks. That's when I went to the dr. for a yeast infection and found out I was 1cm dilated and effaced. I came back the next day and got the steroid shots for the baby's lungs and found out I was having contractions every 2 min. :WTF: I had no idea!! So off to the hospital I went for an IV to rehydrate me, which stopped the contractions, so I was sent home on bedrest. I went back to the dr. for the 2nd steroid shot the nxt day and was still having contractions so I was admitted to the hospital for 2 days and given Inducin to stop the contractions. Within a few days the contractions were back so I was put on Procardia pills every 6 hrs for 15 days (until I reached 34 wks). Between the pills and bedrest, it worked and Baby stayed put.
At 35 wks, my bedrest was modified (THANK GOD!!!) and I could start to do things for myself. I never thought I'd be so excited to load the dishwasher and wash a load of laundry. I went in for my 36 wk appt yesterday and discovered that I am 3+ cm dilated and she thinks I'm 70% effaced. I was having contractions every 10 min yesterday for at least 5 hrs but they seemed to have gone away now.
As of today, I am losing my plug and having AF like cramps. My mom was 3 cm dilated for 2 wks with my sis, so we'll see how long I stay like this. Mom also had me at 36 wks, but I hear it's not hereditary to go early.
DH and I are getting so excited and nervous! Because I've been on bedrest, I just started going back to our Bradley Method classes. I made it to class 1 and 6, but listened to the rest on speaker phone DH was a sweetheart and went to all of them w/o me. :biglove: I'm anxious but I feel very at peace about giving birth naturally. Most of my friends think I'm crazy but my family has been supportive. My mom gave birth to all of us naturally, so if anything I'm explaining to her why you wouldn't want an epi or other medical interventions since she didn't have the options and is uneducated about the problems associated w/them. If I make it to nxt Wed (37wks), we will be birthing at an Alt. Birth Cntr but if I go before then, it will be up to my dr. if she'll send me to L/D or allow me to go to the ABC.
TIA for reading this LONG story I'll KUP on my progress and can't wait to share this journey with all of you!!
Thanks for posting your story! Looks like you won't have the opportunity to be posting very much as you will probably soon be giving birth! I look forward to hearing your birth story and hope you get the natural birth you want!
Congrats on your lodge!!
I love the story of you and your DH!
I studied the Bradley method too. I don't belive in all of his writings but so much of it was a huge help to me. It was reading his book(The Husband Coached Labor) that made me belive in myself and my DH and that I could do it.
congrats on your lodge hon! It's so nice to see other TTCAL grads so close to holding our babes in our arms! :bighug:
YAY!! I'm so glad it's time for your lodge!!! It's so nice to see my feb mamas. I love your story of how you two met, I think that is simply the cutest story ever.
Looking forward to seeing your baby, you've done awesome sticking out the bedrest
All I can say is "Wow" to all of your efforts to keep the baby inside you, especially the bed rest part. That must have been very hard. But you're almost ready to give birth now, so it seems. KUP on everything.
The story of you and your DH is very sweet. It made me think of a scene in the movie "When Harry Met Sally." One of the older couples who are interviewed about how they met grew up very close by, almost met countless times, and then finally met when they were at a hotel in Chicago. Your story made me think of that.
What a great story!!!!!
Looks like baby might be coming soon!!
I hope she stays in there a little longer so you can definitely get your birth center birth.
Peace and Grace!!!
I TRULY hope you get the birth center birth that you want!!!! You have an amazing story and deserve a wonderful birth experience!!!
Thanks so much girls! I'm all teary-eyed reading your posts and realizing that I will be holding my precious little girl so soon...
Today's been good so far, still losing my plug a little but I haven't had more than a few contractions. I'm spending my time working on handmade birth announcements that I'm rubber stamping. If I get them done before she's born, I'll post a pic for you. It's therapeutic for me to work on rubber stamping/scrapbooking stuff
Today has been a little emotional though. I talked to my best friend since 1st grade who has a 2 1/2 yr old and is wanting more kids but she has a brain tumor and is going through chemo right now, so she can't. She's trying to convince her husband that they should adopt. She was diagnosed w/a brain tumor almost 4 years ago when she woke up one morning having a seizure. She had brain surgery immediately and then got pg right away so never underwent chemo. She gave birth to a perfectly healthy little girl named Mia. What was left of the tumor didn't grow any bigger until last year, so she ended up having to start chemo pills and is still getting MRI's every 3 months. She has her next appt on Monday, and I get so nervous every time.
Sorry this is OT, but she's like a sister to me since we did EVERYTHING together in school and even went to college together. We were inseparable. Without her I don't think I would of finished college because 2 days before my 20th B-day, my BF committed suicide. It's been over 10 yrs but seems like just yesterday. Anyways...
She's very thankful to have her daughter but I know she's hurting wanting another, and her sister is pg w/her 2nd and I'm pg and it's just got to be so hard for her. We don't see each other enough since she lives 1 1/2 hour away and works crazy retail hrs. but maybe now that I'll be a SAHM I can drive to see her 1x per week or something.
TIA for listening to me ramble OT! I'll KUP
Hi Theresa. I love the story of how you and your hubbie met. It is so sweet. I am glad to hear your little has stayed put for now. I look forward to following your story. Thanks so much for sharing.
Your announcements sound great...I wish I was more creative. I still have the announcements on my "To Do" list.
So sorry to hear that you had a rough day. I totally understand about your friend. I hope she gets some good news on Monday and I hope you are able to spend some time with her after your daughter is born.
Hang in there!
Hi Theresa-- what a great story about you and dh. That is so cute!
I"m so sorry to hear about your IRL friend-- I'll be sending healing vibes her way.
GL on the keeping baby in there.
I also read the Bradley books-- I was able to take bits and apply them. What I found most helpful were his guideposts in labor-- they held very true for me, both the physical and emotional stuff that most women seem to go thru.
I would love to see your birth announcements, they sound amazing! I am sorry to hear about your friend, that is really tough but I think it is a wonderful bond that you two have.
I hope your baby stays put a little longer!
Definitely post your birth announcements!!! I would love to see them. I recently started scrapbooking as well and it has been VERY therapeutic! (in fact, all of our families got scrapbooks of our medieval wedding for Xmas this year :-)...)
I'm truly sorry to hear about your friend
Well I'll be 37 wks on Wed. so I am getting VERY excited! Once we hit 37 wks, we will be allowed to deliver at the birth center. I bet if I went into labor today, she'd let me anyways, but full term is a milestone anyways. The only new thing to add is that I have the pregnancy induced carpal tunnel thing going on. It's driving me nuts!! I've had it for awhile but never put 2 and 2 together until I was looking online this weekend. Between waking up to pee and waking up because my hands are asleep, I don't get much sleep these days, so I'm glad I'm home and able to nap during the day My fingertips even fall asleep when I'm using a round brush to dry my hair, it's so weird... I hear it goes away within a month or so after the baby's born, so I hope so. Anyone else have this problem and can offer any suggestions in the meantime?
I know this sounds crazy but I found out today when our little girl's Baptism will be. It'll be either Sat. April 14th at 5pm or Sun. April 15th at 11am Mass. The next Baptism class is Feb.8th so I don't know if we'll make it to that one :), but we'll see... We'll probably have to go to the March 29th one instead.
Well, gotta go take care of my 2 fur babies
only two days! That's great!
You have done such a wonderful job of keeping your little girl in there ~ Im thrilled for you that you are going to get to experience the birth that you want at the birthing center! Sorry to hear about the carpal tunnel, I have a good friend who had this badlywith her last pregnancy and ended up choosing to have surgery on one wrist about 3 months after she had the baby. I wish that I had some good advice for you but I dont know any tips for dealing with it or lessening the annoying pins and needles feeling (incidentally, I get the pins and needles feeling on the top of my belly ~ it DRIVES ME CRAZY so I can only imagine how annoying it is in your wrists. Hang in there! THinking of you as 37 weeks approaches
You are really close to qualifying for that birthing center! Hurray!
Happy almost term!
I have no advice about the CTS I'm sorry. I had a little numbness in late pg w/ dd but it went away as soon as my body had flushed all the extra fluid out - day 2 or 3 postpartum it was gone for me. But I didn't have it badly at all. But I relate to the frustration - when your hands don't work right nothing else seems to matter much.
That's neat that you know about the baptism date already! surreal, eh? Do you feel like it's real that in a few weeks you'll be holding your baby?
That is really neat about the baptism date! Does it make seem more real to you?
Melychang and Robinna, yeah it seems so strange to be planning her Baptism already but I wanted to find out when our church does them (I'm a planner ) It was very surreal talking to my mom about the dates last night. I'm glad I did though because the other 2 dates wouldn't of worked because of my great Aunt's 90th B-day party and Memorial Weekend. Wow, she'll be about 2 months old at her Baptism. I know the day will be here before we know it!
DH sat on the sofa with me this am and talked to the baby, which makes her move around like crazy. Her movements or should I say jabs and punches are so strong now. I'm so excited that DH really wants to be a dad and can't stop talking about how much he wants to hold her, etc.
As for the CTS, I'm just counting on the fact that it's supposed to go away not too long after the baby's born. Numb fingertips from doing ordinary things like drying your hair or washing dishes is so annoying! But I can't complain too much because that really is a minor thing compared to what some people go through in life. I should just be happy that I can have a baby and enjoy all the little quirks that come along with it
I feel for you with the carpel tunnel because it makes it hard to get tasks done. Have you tried using wrist braces while typing, doing crafts, or other things with your hands?
Congrats on making it to 37 weeks!
Yea! One more day till full term!
Take it easy today.
Congrats on getting this far!!! That's wonderful!!!
So sorry about the CTS. That sounds annoying. Hope it vanishes quickly.
Awesome! Just about full term. That is great! I think it's so great that your husband is exciting to hold and cuddle your little girl. I think those sorts of things just make us love our men more. That is great to know he is supportive.
woohooo birthing center bound! I think you've done awesome so far and I can't wait to hear you're on your way to have your little girl.
I had CTS with my first but not had it since, I just seem to remember kinda waiting it out till it went away but I don't remember when that was. Hopefully it goes away soon
WE MADE IT TO 37 Weeks!!! Now we can deliver at the Alternative Birth Center!!! DH and I are so excited. I had my 37 wk appt today and I'm still 3+cm and 70% effaced and baby girl's head is still down, so that's good. Really nothing new to talk about today, except that DH and I practiced relaxation techniques last night and also pushing stage positions since he plans to sit behind me and watch her in the mirror w/me.
Before we started our Bradley classes I don't think he would of ever imagined that he would want to watch her being born. He is just so amazed now about birth, after seeing so many birth videos that he can't wait to see her unmedicated little body wriggle up to me and start breastfeeding after birth. I know he's going to bawl like a little schoolgirl  like he did at our wedding, which was totally unexpected. I thought it would of been me, but he was so sweet and emotional and choked up. I hope we get some good pictures of the sweet moments we'll share as a new family when she's born.
Congrats on making it to 37wks!! That's so exciting
It sounds like your dh is a real sweetheart.
I love the picture of you two in your avatar. You look so happy - and good - together! I can't wait to see your little one in there with you
YAY!!! Congrats on making it to 37 weeks!!! You must be VERY excited!
Congrats on making to 37 wks!! I love the plan that your dh has of watching the baby come. That sounds so beautiful!
Sorry I haven't posted recently. I had a busy weekend (dinner date w/DH on Friday, haircut, a party, grocery shopping, chiro appt, friend's baby shower, Bradley class), not busy enough I guess since I haven't went into labor ! I've felt really tired the last few days though. I think I'm going to take some naps today. I have allergies to dust mites and my dogs, and I seem pretty stuffed up today. I hope it's just my allergies and not a cold coming on. We're going to cloth diaper so I've been spending alot of time on the CD board. I know alot of you are on there and I really appreciate any advice you can give me TIA!!
Saturday night I realized I had majorly swollen ankles, which is a first for me. They were still bad yesterday but I ate about 30g of protein after class last night and they seem to be better today. I just need to keep up my 80-100g per day and I should be fine. The CTS kept waking me up last night though and my hands ache like crazy today.
I can't believe I'm due in about 2 weeks!! We are SO excited, we can't contain ourselves. I really never expected to make it this far. It's so weird. Since my pre-term labor started at 31 wks, everyone thinks I'm overdue or something and keeps asking me when I'm going to have this baby! DH thinks we'll have her on Thursday, so she'll still be a Feb baby The full moon is Friday, so I guess this weekend isn't a far stretch!! My cousin is having her little boy's 1st bday party on Saturday so I'm hoping we can make it to that though. We'll see...
Whooo exciting!!! I am hoping to cloth diaper so any experience you get I would love to hear about it1
How exciting that you are so close to birthing.
I'm always interested in the phase of the moon. I have a friend who gave birth at home in water on the full moon during an eclipse and the baby was born in the caul. But I've had both of my babies during the waning moon.
Have you chosen and told us a name yet?
Have you prepared the dogs?
Same here...although I think it will be one of the easier things to deal with as a first time mom...I am more concerned about BFing! LOL!
Glad to hear you are doing so well. You have done such a great job keeping her baking.
38 wks! I can't believe I'm still pg really... I've been 3+cm for 2 wks, so I guess I shouldn't of gotten my hopes up so quickly! We'll see what the doc says today at my 3:15pm appt. I don't really want to deliver her on Friday, Groundhog's day though , but this weekend would be fine
selkiemom: We haven't chosen a name yet but we do have a list going. Of course it keeps changing. Our 2 favorites are Leah and Halle w/Marie as the middle name. We're going to wait until we meet her. As for preparing the dogs, I have a "Preparing Fido" CD that has all kinds of baby cries, grunts, giggles, etc. but I haven't played it recently. The 1st time I played it they were only interested for about 2 seconds and then they went back to sleep!! But I do go into the baby's room alot and turn on the swing and play w/toys to get them used to some of those noises. Since we'll only be at the birth center for 24 hrs after birth, I don't know if DH will be able to bring home blankets first smelling like her or not. We'll see. I might have my parents do it, since they'll probably be the one's stopping in to feed them anyways. It will be very interesting to see how the girls do w/their new little sister. They seem good around my friends' kids, but we'll see how they are w/one that never leaves !!
Melychang and Caden&Lucy: I'm really looking forward to CD. Suprisingly, it was DH idea!! It was brought up at our Bradley class and I was like "no way" thinking CD was still antiquated and all pins and messes, but things have changed SO much w/CD. I'll let you know what we decide to order as our first stash to try out.
We don't have dogs and I never would have thought that you would have to "get them ready"... however it totally makes sense! That is good to hear that they are good with other kids already, sounds like a good sign.
The names you have chosen are beautiful, very classic.
Your names are really pretty. I love that your dogs went to sleep when you played the CD for them...that is exactly why we are not worried about our two furbabies. They bark only if someone rings the doorbell, but the moment the door is open, they are friends with whoever is behind it! And they are good with kids/adults, so I will just be concerned with making sure the baby respects them when she gets mobile.
Can't wait to hear about your CDing...do you plan to use disposables for awhile? We have a bunch of Fuzzibunz, some CFPs and Bummis WW, but I was thinking of buying one package of NB diapers and starting when those run out and the meconium has made its way out of her system.
Congrats on making it 38 weeks...Can't wait to hear when she decides to make her appearance.
I love the two names you have narrowed it down to and cant wait to hear what you ultimately decide on!
I love thinking of you sitting in the nursery running the swing and just daydreaming about your baby ~ especially for us first time moms isnt this just such a thrilling time as we anticipate what we lie on the brink of? I keep trying to think on that, that there may only be a few times in my ENTIRE LIFE where I am as pregnant as I am now ~ we are truly standing on the precipice, the divide from maiden to mother, and it is simply so exciting! I loved catching up on your lodge, Im with you on ideally not having a groundhog baby, and I cant wait to see how this all shakes out for us Feb moms!
Caden&Lucy: We have a ton of sposies in NB and 1-2 size (about a month's supply), so I think we'll use them up while we try out a few different CD. I think I'm going to get a couple of FB, HH, BG2.0, and maybe another kind. I'm still debating over whether or not to get CPF and fitteds w/covers or just skip that style all together. I don't know yet. Are you getting the mini sprayer for your toilet?
natesbear: Isn't it fun to just daydream about what our little one is going to look like, sound like, act like! When I open her door, I feel like I've stepped into a different world. It's so exciting! We really are at a moment in life where we'll never be again. Next time we're pg, we'll already be a mom, so we really should cherish these moments.
As for cherishing moments, DH was so sweet this am. Before he left for work he got back into bed and snuggled w/me and said that on Sat. am, he wants to stay in bed for hours and snuggle like this. :love3: We haven't been able to spend much time together lately w/his work being busy and me being so uncomfortable and tired at night. We need to take advantage of any alone time we can before we have this baby!!
Thanks everyone for commenting on the names we picked out Halle was the 1st girl name DH had picked out when we got pg the 1st time and Leah was probably the 1st one we picked out when we got pg this time. We've had many many many others on and off the list, so we'll see what we end up naming her.
My 38wk appt went well yesterday. I'm still 3-4cm but now I'm more like 80% effaced. We had a good talk about what we'll do if my labor happens fast, since I live about 45 min from the birth center. My dr. can also deliver at a closer hospital if we're in an emergency situation. She said she's not a fan of delivering in cars but if she had to she'd meet me at the corner of M-24 and Silverbell Rd! NO I DO NOT want to deliver in my car, thank you! She doesn't really think I'll have an "early labor" stage since I've pretty much been dragging that out for the last few weeks on and off. She thinks I'll go right into active first stage and with the way my cervix feels, etc. thinks that my natural birth plans will go great. She did say that I look too good to be going into labor anytime soon though, and I agreed and said I feel too good to be going into labor anytime soon. She said the baby will still be in there for the Super Bowl Maybe I should take that as a challenge! I think I'll hit the mall again today and do some more walking...
Question for you all: My dr. said that most of her patients stay the same in weight or lose a lb or 2 before they go into labor? Has that been the case w/any of you? That's another reason she doesn't think I'll have her this wk since I still gained 1-2 lbs. I hadn't heard this before?
Glad you are considering CD-- we love it! We CD'd both of our girls....we used CPF's and Bummis WW. Simple system and pretty cheap. We never did get a sprayer or anything-- for the first 6 mos or so when baby is one breast milk their poo can just be tossed into the washing machine--it doesn't get nasty until you add solids. At that point we used rice paper liners and flushed away poo Another upside of CD (IMO) is that it is easier to potty train-- both of my girls were PT'd by 19 mos.
Your pups will do fine-- I bet they welcome your baby no problems. They sound like sweethearts! And I also love your names-- so pretty and feminine.
KUP on your "progress"....though you are so far along already. I'm jealous..it always took me hours of hard labor to get where you are :).
I found some really nice CPF, new, on ebay and got the Whisper Wraps there too...I figured since I got such a good deal, it would be no problem if we didn't use them and they will work great for burp cloths. No diaper sprayer either, because, as Audra said, I heard that you don't really need one until they are eating solids. I am planning on BFing and since that poop is so runny and doesn't smell bad, you just throw the whole thing in the washer. You will have to let me know how the CDing goes for you. I would appreciate any advice!
Glad to hear things are going so well for you. You and DH sound so sweet and I am glad you are enjoying your alone time together before the baby comes.
I'm sorry I haven't commented as much as I want.. but I'm checking in on you every day!
I so can't wait to meet your little girl and hear about the birth. You are awesome and I know you can do it. I was at a fixed 2cm with my first for a while (I won't say how long, it's depressing) and the others I've never been checked till the end and was 4 and 5 cm.
I love the names you've picked, and I love the idea of narrowing it down but waiting till you meet her to pick the name. Awesome.
Just giving you some love.. I check on you all the time
Last night at the chiropractor, my dr. said this was the "magical adjustment" and he expects me to go into labor within 48 hrs. He said he's usually right about 80% of the time, so we'll see... I'm not holding my breath but I would love to have her this weekend. When we got home, I was having contractions every 7-8 min and then every 5 minutes for awhile but nothing that would send me to the birth center. They were a little stronger then past contractions and I had a lot more "shooting pain" in my cervix or wherever those weird stabs are Can you tell I'm a FTM, I have no clue But then I settled in to watch Grey's Anatomy and everything quit.
I'm headed to JoAnn Fabrics today to buy some fabric for the curtain in her nursery; it will be bright pink w/white daisy outlines. My mom is going to make them. We are doing a bright room. Here's a link to the border that we haven't put up yet. It's called Butterfly Garden. We got the wall appliques too! I can't wait to get it all put up. Maybe we'll do that this weekend...http://www.walldecorshops.com/BU51582.html
And here's a link to the daisy curtain rod.http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/sr=1-1/qid=1170428583/ref=sr_1_1/602-1686161-0819060?ie=UTF8&asin=B00092P5SQ
Nadine, thanks for checking on me. You are so sweet. With the 2 new babies, I wouldn't expect you to even be on pg.org!! I hope you are doing well and adjusting to twin life
We really are at a moment in life where we'll never be again. Next time we're pg, we'll already be a mom, so we really should cherish these moments.
I keep thinking this same thing! It's a little scary, closing the door on one stage of our lives, but it's also so exciting of course I'm glad you & DH are taking the time while you have it to enjoy the special, just-the-two-of-us moments
I LOVE the bright, happy flowers theme!
