Thanks, ladies! I'm off to go read some other lodges for inspiration...expect a nice intro later tonight or tomorrow!
Here's a belly pic to hold ya'll over...I've gained a lot, like 40 lbs so far. Yikes! But my wonderful midwife says not to pay any attention to the numbers on the scale and that I am healthy and so is my baby. Love her!
You look fantastic Welcome to your lodge
Congrats and Welcome!!
Congrats! You look great!
Lizzie! I am so proud of you! Not much longer till your LO arrives.
I just can't wait to see & hear about your birth story!
Thanks for the warm welcome, ladies! I guess it's time to do a little intro...I would have done it sooner but I think I'm in crazy nesting mode. I've been doing laundry, washed my sheets, vacuumed and I even pulled everything out of my kitchen cabinets and scrubbed all the shelving! LOL...haven't done that since we moved in here!
Omigosh, this is gonna be looooooooonnnnngggggg......
Anyways, I'm Lizzie and I'm 29 years old...married to David, he's 34. We've been married for 3.5 years and this is our first baby. We met when I was working as a waitress in a sports bar, and DH was out for a drink with some friends. It was Halloween night, and I was dressed as a black angel (hot costume=good tips!). It was also karaoke night. SO, long story short, this cute guy and his friend started talking to me...Dave was dressed really preppy that night - a turtleneck sweater, black chunky shoes, spiky blonde hair, etc. I remember his friend joked that it was a costume..."He's supposed to be Justin Timberlake," he said. I was more into the tattoed, bad-ass motorcycle-riding mean drunken jerk kind of guys back then, but Dave was so cute and his eyes crinkle up in the corners when he laughs and I just fell for him. He and his friend sang that song from the movie Top Gun...remember, with Tom Cruise? Where he and Goose sing "You Lost That Lovin' Feeling" to the girl? Yep, that's what they did, and they came down off the stage and serenaded me...it was soooooo sweet!
Dave asked for my number that night, but I said no because I NEVER gave out my number to customers. Drunk guys always ask for your number when you work at a bar...not that Dave was drunk. He had actually only had one or two beers (he's not a drinker), but I didn't know that at the time. I had discovered long ago that all you have to say in order to still get a good tip and not upset them is: "Sure, I'll give you my number. Come back tomorrow during dinnertime and I'll give it to you." They NEVER came back. So I told Dave, "If you come back tomorrow during dinner I'll give you my number", never expecting to see him again. But sure enough, he came back! Of course, I had to give him my number. We've been pretty much inseparable ever since.
That was in October, and the following February we went to karaoke night again since he would sometimes sing, just for fun. That night, he sang "You Lost That Lovin' Feeling" again, and the DJ was in on it as his "wingman". They started singing it to me, and then when he got to the part that says "Baby baby, I get down on my knees for you...." the music turned off, and he got down on one knee and proposed in front of the whole bar! Of course I said yes. We were married in October of 2004.
I am no longer a waitress...I'm a Technical Writer. (I majored in English in college, but I just waitressed for a couple of years after college while I got my act together.) DH and I moved into our first house in October of 2005.
We are really big animal people...I was born that way and Dave has sort of become one being with me. We built and maintain the website for our local high-kill dog pound (www.hartforddogpound.com) and we have done fostering, etc. Big supporters of animal welfare and rescue.
Because they are such an important part of our lives, you'll of course have to meet the critters, too. So, here is our current menagerie...they mean the world to us:
Oz, the original gangsta...our first pet together. He's your typical fat orange cat. He was a stray living under a bar...DH and I went out for a drink and came home with a new kitten! That was about 5 years ago. (PS - this makes it sound like we were always barhopping...I swear, we weren't! But you know how it is when you're in your 20's, you go out for drinks on a Friday/Saturday night)
This is Lucy...she is unique because she has a heart on her side, and she was born on Valentine's Day (2004) AND she has a heart murmur. Pretty weird. She is also a crazy, evil little b!tch, but we love her.
Here is our dog, Loki. We got him at the pound shortly after we moved into our house. He's a Siberian Husky and we still can't figure out why someone would give him up. He's a wonderful dog.
Oz and Loki:
Our big mastiff mix, Jesse James (JJ), rounded out the family. He was my baby...a big 'ole 115 lb clown that we brought home from the pound as a puppy 2 years ago.
The worst, most traumatic thing that has happened during my entire pregnancy is that we lost our beloved JJ shortly after Christmas. He had multiple surgeries to try to fix his severely dysplastic hips, but when his knees started to go we just knew we couldn't put him through any more surgeries...he just could not be fixed. We did everything we could for him...RIP, JJ...:(
SO, that is the family as it stands...and our new little one is due March. We always knew we wanted one or two kids, but we wanted to be prepared...in a house and financially ready, etc. Over the summer, we decided that we were as ready as we'd ever be and "whatever happens, happens" and stopped actively preventing. Sure 'nuff, it pretty much happened right away.
I remember calling DH at work, crying, saying "I took a pregnancy test" and he was like, "Oh, don't worry about it baby...we can try again next month...these things take time..." and I wailed "NO it's POSITIVE!"
So....well, that's where I'm going to leave you for now, before my hands fall off from typing so much. But that's how our journey began. Hee hee...one random night of Halloween Karaoke!
Welcome to your lodge Lizzie!! I love your intro! That is awesome the way that your DH proposed to you---so cute!! Did he seranade you again at your wedding? And you have beautiful pets!! How do you think they will be around a new baby?
