Thanks for the welcome, everybody! WARNING! I think my baby is the cutest baby of all time, so I have posted way too many pictures...

My husband and I met in fifth grade, started dating in high school and got married five years ago. Doing the math just now, I realized that we have been friends for just about 20 years! He is a truly amazing person and perfect for me.

Here we are on our wedding day, April 5, 2003:

We lived in Texas and Virginia before we relocated to Bangkok, Thailand in August 2005. I found out I was pregnant in February 2006, already 7 weeks along. I guess I was in denial or just really, really unobservant, because once I found out I was pregnant, a lot of my weird behavior started to make a lot more sense... My pregnancy was pretty easy, and although the hospital here is wonderful, I was still too nervous about delivering in a very foreign country where I barely speak the language to feel comfortable with a natural delivery last time around. I was due on the 29th of September, and my parents flew out on the night of the 19th. Right when we were about to leave to pick them up at the airport, another ex-pat friend called to tell us to turn on the news. There were tanks rolling through the streets in Bangkok! The prime minister of Thailand was at the UN to make a speech and while he was gone, the military had staged a coup. The king of Thailand is absolutely beloved by every Thai person, and he was able to make the change in government peaceful just by asking. However, it was still a very unsettling night and we sat up for a while watching the news and talking. When I woke up early the next morning after just a few hours of sleep, I was feeling pretty weird and my water broke as soon as I got out of bed. We went to the hospital, but I was not really contracting regularly, so I climbed stairs for a couple of hours to try to get things moving. My doctor had mentioned when I got arrived that eventually we would have to artificially enhance the contractions if I couldn't do it on my own, and after the sleepless night and the hours of stair climbing, I decided that it was probably in my best interest to not exhaust myself with more walking. So we started some pitocin and an epidural WHICH DID NOT WORK. I could still feel every contraction and move my legs even though the anesthesiologist claimed that I was on the very highest dose possible. I still contend that it must have been the highest dose for a 4'10" Thai girl (I am 5'11"). Around 10 pm, I was finally ready to push, but it took another couple of hours and an episiotomy before I finally got to meet my beautiful little Clementine. She was 7 pounds and 23 inches and the most wonderful thing that has ever happened to me.

I found out I was pregnant with this little one on Clementine's first birthday. We will be moving back to Virginia this August, and we had talked about having one more while we were here in Thailand, because (don't hate me!) we have full time help here, so I don't have to do any cooking or cleaning- my only job is taking care of Clementine. I started cycling again 10 months post-partum, and we decided that we would give it one month and if it didn't happen, we would wait until we were back in the states. I guess I am extremely fertile, because we were actually planning on trying the NEXT month. Oh well!

This pregnancy has been a lot harder on my body than last time, and I have been on restricted activity for a while now. The hardest part is that I am absolutely forbidden to pick up my daughter (she's 30 pounds), and she is really too young to understand. It is definitely something I am looking forward to after this baby is born.

I think that's about enough for now. I will write some more about this pregnancy later.

So, this pregnancy... started off fine, although I did have some bleeding early on which led to a week of bedrest and cancellation of a vacation to Singapore (closest thing to home on this side of the world). This baby is SO active and kick and squirms all the time, which is very different from last time when I had to really concentrate to feel it. I had noticed sometime in March that I was really having a lot of BH contractions, but I didn't really think it was a big deal. My husband and I had a big date night planned for our 5 year anniversary on April 5th, but sometime in the afternoon, I started to feel really terrible and we ended up spending the evening in the hospital instead. As it turned out, I had a pretty nasty kidney infection and I was contracting way more than my doctor was comfortable with. I stayed for the weekend to clear up the infection (my very first night away from my baby!) and have been on restricted activity ever since.

My doctor is currently visiting her son in New York, but she will be back on Monday, and I have my next appointment on Tuesday.

It's been a busy weekend here, and today Clementine had two OUTDOOR birthday parties to attend. Outdoor parties in the hot season around the Equator = puffy ankles and an exhausted mama. It was actually a public holiday today, so at least Jacy was able to come with me and do most of the baby-wrangling. Happy Coronation Day, everybody!

Doctor's appointment tomorrow morning.

Well, my doctor's appointment was pretty good. She did the GBS swab and did a quick cervix check while she was there. NOTHING is happening, which is a bit discouraging considering the month of contractions. However, I got the green light to walk around all I want and, more importantly, pick up my Clementine.

Plus, I actually lost a pound since last week, and isn't that usually a sign that the end is near? Which I guess is a silly question, because OF COURSE the end is near, but I remember that I stopped gaining only in the last week with my last pregnancy.

Love the pics, Erin!

So are you able to stay in A/C most of the time? We went to Bangkok in April while we were there, and oh my gosh, was that hot!!! Even hotter than Chiang Mai! Our house in Chiang Mai only had A/C in the bedroom. I hope you're able to stay cooler. Is the weather getting any better now that it's May?

The Thai doctors must have thought Clementine was huge when she was born! Did you ever get to see her compared to all the little Thai mini-babies? I was always amazed at how tiny the Thai babies were-I wonder if it is just because the Thais are so small or if it's their diet or a combination.

Glad to hear you had a good doctor appt and can walk around with your DD in your arms again Smile It's funny you mention losing weight...I have been the same weight the last 4 appts - I had gained weight consistently every appt for my 2 DDs until the end...I guess it goes to show that every pregnancy certainly is different!

Yay on a good appt. Hopefully the drop in weight means are you getting close! And have a good long cuddle with your daughter Smile

Kim- it is SOOOOO hot here right now. I try to stay inside as much as possible, but I don't really drive much here and the cabs have no seatbelts, as I'm sure you remember, so I'm uncomfortable taking Clementine in them- which leaves walking, if only as far as the skytrain stop. Our whole house is air-conditioned except for the kitchen and maids quarters, which is pretty standard here, so at least I am okay when I am home.

Pretty good day today- lots of contractions, as usual, and some extra cramping, which is new. And I got a pedicure, which I really needed. Bangkok is pretty disgustingly dirty and I have worn nothing but sandals for the past two and a half years, and I can't comfortably tend to my feet at the moment. But now I have, however temporarily, beautiful soft feet!

I have been a bit slow, and I just noticed that you are in Thailand, wow. Sounds like things are going ok. Hopefully those contractions will slow down till you are ready to have your little baby.

Ah, the manicures and pedicures! That's something I really miss about Thailand! They gave really good ones for so little $$.

So what's your favorite Thai fruit? DH & I were just wishing for some pomelo this morning...I was wondering what you like.

I can't imagine how hot it must be there. TG for A/C. I hear ya on the pedicure. I have an appt for one tonight - and I need it.

Fruit is one of the big things I will be missing when we get back. I love rose apple and dragon fruit and guava, and the pineapple you can get in the states is just not even worth discussing.

So it looks like Clementine might be coming down with a bit of a cold. She is still pretty cheerful, although she did have a hard time sharing her toys this morning when the playgroup was here, but she is now sporting a constantly runny nose. Poor baby!

I have really gotten into a rut with waking up at 3:30 in the morning, either to use the restroom or because of leg cramps, and not being able to fall back asleep for a hour or two. Very annoying.

One of the worst things about living overseas is that all of our ex-pat friends are on a defined time frame for living over here, like us. Clementine had two little friends who lived in our building. One of them left for Belize last month and the other leaves for Germany this morning. I am so sad for her; I'm sure she doesn't realize why her friends aren't around to play anymore.

Ugh, I hear you on the leg cramps!
You probably already know this, but I'll tell ya anyway, jic Wink Stya hydrated, and make sure you are getting enough magnesium and potassium! And stretch your calves before bed too. Hope they start feeling better soon!

Poor lo Sad Hope she can find some new friends soon, and that they stick around for awhile!

I got some good/bad news from my doctor this morning. She called to send me to the pharmacy for a five day course of some antibiotics. My swab came back negative for GBS (Yay!), but apparently I am positive for something else (Boo!). I don't really know what that means for me if I were to go into labor in the next few days, so I am just going to take it easy and hope nothing happens. I see my doctor again on Tuesday...

Yeah, it's hard in the ex-pat community to have people coming and going all the time. We were only there for a year and it seemed like a lot of people left or came in the middle. I think it would be hard to be in that transient of a community for a long time. Do you think it will be a difficult adjustment on Clementine when you move back to Virginia?

Hope your infection turns out to be something easily resolved.

That was a pretty crap Mother's Day. Clementine is still sick and now Jacy is sick too. None of us left the house at all except a brief trip Jacy took to buy some juice for Clementine to keep her from getting dehydrated. She still has a runny nose and a cough, and she is throwing up at bit, too. Nothing says love like cuddling a vomit-covered child at 2 in the morning...

I saw my doctor this morning- all is well. As soon as I laid down for her to check the baby's heartbeat, she got really excited about how I am so close and then she was feeling around for the baby's position and asked if she could check my progress. I am a total sucker for KNOWING and she seemed so excited, so I said yes.

And..... nothing. Still.

Oh well. Really, it would be better to wait until my parents get here anyway.

I also went to see the NCB room, since I haven't taken a hospital tour in over two years. The bed is HUGE and the nurse was really cute pointing out how you can cuddle with your husband in it.

Good day yesterday. I went with some friends to another pregnant friend's house during Clementine's nap and played Rock Band, and then after she went to sleep, Jacy and I went to get ice cream and see Iron Man at the platinum movie theatre with the fancy reclining seats. I am trying to fit in some "me" time without taking too much away from Clementine's last only child days...

I just walked across the street to get a drink for my lunch and a bird pooped on my arm. That's good luck, right? Combined with the vaguely crampy feeling I've had all morning, maybe I'm actually starting to dialate!

I spent nearly the entire night awake with some pretty frequent contractions. Around 4 AM, I was starting to have to breathe through them, so I decided to get up and have a snack and a shower and then wake my husband to hold my hand. AND THEY TOTALLY STOPPED.

Pretty annoying to lose a whole night of sleep, but at least I can truly believe that something is happening now.

Oh, Erin ((hugs)) that's exactly what happened to me for a week with Lilah! So many times I was SURE this was it, we got the birth pool filled, etc., and then the ctx. would just STOP. So frustrating and tiring. Hang in there. The real thing is bound to happen eventually!

Happy Visakha Bucha Day, everybody! It is yet another holiday weekend here in Thailand... I have been trying to do some "me" things and some family things this weekend, and so I have been very busy. I've been to two movies, a book club and karaoke with my friends and/or husband and some play dates with Clementine. I think this afternoon I will either take Clementine to the aquarium or go for a massage. Decisions, decisions...

Nothing terribly exciting is happening with my body, but I am in good spirits about that. I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow morning and on Wednesday my parents will be here! I am so excited to see them. I visited them over the winter holidays, but I can't wait for them to see how different and awesome Clementine is now. And I think it will definitely make a difference in my comfort level if they are here to take care of Clementine while I am in the hospital. Hopefully, I will be able to relax and enjoy my first few days with my son without worrying so much about what is happening at home.

I had my 39 week appointment this morning. Everything looks good, although she did not check for progress this week. I think it's just as well, because now I can pretend that things are happening without anything to burst my happy bubble. This is new territory for me as Clementine was born at 38 weeks 3 days.

I have inched up to 170 pounds, which is definitely more than last time. I'm so close to the end that I'm really not concerned about it at all, and in fact, I just ate some pizza and dark chocolate. SO THERE, weight gain!
