Hello from a newbie!

I use to lurk on the "Just letting it happen" board and remember you tried for your LO for awhile. I hope he stays in there a little bit longer!!!!! I'll be watching your progress.

Well, hello there! Biggrin

I'm excited to have a lodge, but nervous at the same time. One of the ladies on my birth board just had her baby without real warning and the baby is having breathing issues despite a healthy weight of over 6 pounds.

My name is Janelle and my DH is Brad. Together we have a beautiful 4 year old boy named Jacob and we are expecting his baby brother Daniel sometime in the near future (obviously). Daniel's due date is January 3rd, though he's not been a patient little man so far. Let me start from the beginning. When Jacob was born we had hoped to have more children, though considering it only took 3 months to conceive Jacob, we tried to "plan" the next one to come after Jacob was potty trained. Jacob started showing an interest in potty training a bit early and we decided it was time to stop birth control and start letting life take place. 4 months later we found out we were pregnant again, but Jacob had an owie with his potty chair and was back in diapers. 2 weeks after we found out about the pregnancy, I woke up bleeding. We sadly lost the baby sometime in the following week.

In the 2 weeks that I knew I was pregnant I started feeling my gall bladder pain return and so as soon as my first AF showed after the m/c, I went back on birth control and we started to seek out a surgeon to remove the gall bladder. 3 months later my gall bladder was removed and another 2 months for healing and I was off the birth control once again, and ready to get pregnant. One year went by and then my doctor recommended that we prevent again so that I could get another health issue under control. 3 more moths of birth control and then back to baby making.

From the first AF post m/c, it took us a little over 2 years to conceive this LO (with the exception of those couple of breaks). When the doctor asked us at our first prenatal appointment if it took over a year to conceive, DH practically jumped out of his seat exclaiming "yes". I was a little surprised as I assumed he didn't see it as a big deal.

I was cautiously excited about this pregnancy and praying for the 6th week to come and pass. We had an ultrasound at 11 weeks because the doctor could not locate the heart beat with the doppler in her office and I was so nervous for that ultrasound. At the ultrasound they measured us for dating and detected the flicker of the heartbeat right away. The tech complained that she couldn't get a heart rate and I was so confused. I said "but it's beating, I can see it." then she explained she needed 3 beats in a row to get the rate and the baby wouldn't stop moving so she could get it. I laughed at the idea that the baby was moving too much, and I was so happy to have a promising bean.

Around 12 weeks I was put on bed rest and quit my job because I was having cramping and painful braxton hicks contractions. It's been a rough road ever since. I've been on modified bed rest a majority of this pregnancy due to contractions as a result of activity, heart palpitations with side symptoms, and physical exhaustion.

I was put on a 48 hour heart monitor somewhere in the 4th or 5th month of pregnancy and it showed nothing unusual, but did leave behind a darkened skin line on where the "tabs" were located on my skin.

I have been up to L&D 3 times so far, twice for back pain and abdominal cramping, and once for dehydration and contractions following a stomach flu.

I am now at 35 weeks (and 2 days, but who's counting) and I have reached the point in my pregnancy where my hospital will no longer stop labor and they will not attempt to move me to another hospital (2 hours away).

I am at weekly appoinment schedules and my next one is Thursday.

I have been cramping and having back pain and nausea on and off since 33 weeks, and since yesterday have been having lower back pain and pressure along side with slight lower abdominal cramping and frequent but inconsistant and tolerable contractions. I woke up twice last night because my abdomen was so tight that I was uncomfortable (and I'm not a light sleeper). I may have lost a small portion of my mucus plug last night, though it was not twinged with anything so I might be mistaken. Today I have not had nearly as many contractions and the back pain is slightly more tolerable.

K. I wrote a book. Biggrin And now I have to pee again (doing that about twice an hour).

Thanks for reading and sharing this journey with me. I will update as necessary.

Wow hun what a story. I hope that you get a few more weeks before your little man comes into this world. Do you have a name picked out for him yet? Is DS excited to be a big brother? I think we're all going to be stalking you for your entire lodge:)

Welcome to your lodge! DH and I TTC 16 months before Ethan was conceived so I know what that's like! Hopefully baby boy will decide he likes it where he is for a while longer:-)

Yes, his name is Daniel and I just fixed that on my siggy.:D I'm letting DH pick the middle name from two choices I've given him. I like them both equally and they both come from his family, so I thought he might have a preference. So far, he's got nothing. We took an informal poll at Thanksgiving and it's still a tie, so I'm not sure what we are going to do for that. The choices I've given him are Richard (After DH's deceased grandfather) or Mark (after DH's dad - also DH's middle name).

DS Jacob is eagerly awaiting the arrival of his little brother, though I know he'll be dissapointed that he can't "play" with him for a few months. I've been working in the nursery and with "baby" stuff for a couple of days and took a break so that Jacob doesn't feel left out.

We moved Jacob into a new room and he started sleeping in it November 1st. He knows that Daniel will be going in his old room, but doesn't seem to feel like the baby stole it from him. Jacob and I put together a baggie of baby toys that Jacob never wanted to get rid of, so he's looking forward to giving them to him. We got a doppler to use as a bonding tool for him and he requested to listen to the baby frequently until the doppler quit working (it wasn't very expensive). Now he talks to his brother and tells him to stop kicking mommy but also loves on him daily.

Every once in a while Jacob asks "is the baby here yet?" and I have been telling him that the baby will come when the baby is ready and is done growing into a baby. I'm surprised at how much he seems to understand at this point and his enthusiasm with becoming a big brother. I'm slightly concerned that he will ask us "When are we taking the baby back", and I'm concerned about the fact that he will be having to share me more, but with the bed rest and me not being able to pick Jacob up or chase him around the house, he's already sacrificed so much, that it might not even come up.

Meanwhile, whenever Jacob sees a commercial for a baby toy he says "Mommy! We need to buy that for my brother!" Smile He's already looking out for this baby more than I expected.

Well, the contractions seem to have dissipated. I slept decently well last night, though I had trouble falling asleep. I feel like I'm trying to hold a ball between my legs, so my guess is either the baby is engaged or I'm dilating. I'll know better in a couple of days I suppose. Smile

Oh, I suppose that I should add a little something of a slight pain that is confusing to me. Okay, so it's a little more than slight, but it's quick to come and quick to go, repeats for a few times and then nothing again for a few hours at least. I had just got done texting my bff last night, whose all the way on the other side of the US from me and 3 hours behind. I texted that it wasn't happnening tonight, then all of a sudden, without changing positions, I felt this sharp stabbing sensation in my lower right abdomen (really low, like right above my hip bone) and it radiated down into my crotch. I though "sh*t that hurts" and "what the hell was that" then "I'm glad that's over", but before I could finish that last thought, it came again. Then again, and then I called my bff and said, maybe I spoke too soon.

Do you think it could just be the baby trying to settle into position, do you think he's pushing down on my cervix, or do you think maybe my hips are separating more? Or, is it nothing at all? Should I call my doctor?

It's painful, but leaves quickly and returns and leaves, usually in a pattern of three or four. I'm having it again this morning, but I'm sure it's not gonna happen again for another few hours. At least I hope not. That thing hurts!!

I do not what that is. Can you tell if it is coming from the cervix or vagina or maybe you pubic bones? There are *lots* of ligaments attached to the pelvic girdle from all over and any one of them could be hurting (similar to round ligament pain on the outside of the uterus) or it could be baby trying to worm out! It could also be what I like to call - phantom vaginal pain! Sometimes I just having stabbing pains for no apparent reason.

I would definitely talk to the doctor about it (either call and ask or wait until you appt). And KUP if you get any more information about it. Wink

Hmmm, that is strange, but I'm going to guess it's not a problem and just a normal thing. If your worried about it just call, it can't hurt to ask.

well, it hasn't happened any more today (so far), I guess it's probably some kind of ligament pain.

Thanks

I just noticed that you have a lodge!!! I can't wait to read all about your journey!! Smile

I've had that pain your describing...I think its my babys head putting so much pressure on me and plus she moves alot that low and the pain is sharp and fast! I thought they were contractions too but now I think they are just my baby beating me up.

I hope they get better for you. I've been hydrating like crazy the past few days and the BH and the sharp pains have almost been non-existant!

One other thing I've noticed is that I'm swollen and puffy "down there" I think this could extra pressure?

Well, I am definitely looking forward to my appointment this morning. It seems that on top of all of the early labor signs I'm experiencing and some of them becoming more uncomfortable, my palpitations seem to be coming more frequently and are keeping me from relaxing easily.

I woke up a little before 2am because I needed to use the bathroom. Well, while on the toilet peeing, I had a "flutter" in my chest that quite possibly could have been my lungs. Then I went to the kitchen for some water and went back to bed. I laid down in bed and started feeling as if I wasn't getting enough oxygen (though I was breathing deeply). This feeling was hard to overcome and hard to not panic. I then experienced a couple of contractions. They weren't painful, but I found it difficult to relax through them or even concentrate on relaxing because I felt as if I wasn't getting enough oxygen.

I'm concerned that I may be having all of these early labor signs and symptoms because my body doesn't think it can handle being pregnant much longer. I'm definitely requesting a closer look at what's going on with my heart as soon as the baby is born.

I'm also going to have my doctor make sure all the precautions are taken care of during labor and delivery because it seems as though the palpitations occur directly following increased activity (of any kind, just simply walking after sitting will do it) or when my emotions rise.

Meanwhile, LO keeps applying pressure to my cervix....

Is it over yet? Lol

Not over yet hun! I hope your appointment goes well, and it does sounds like your body needs this baby to be done cooking a bit early. I hope you can get some answers to your heart issues, that sounds scarry. I can imagaine how that would be very distracting during labor. Can't wait to see how your appointment goes today:)

Well, my appointment went well, I suppose. I had an emotional breakdown in front of the doctor. I think it was brought on by a mix of lack of sleep, physical exhaustion and discomfort, and pregnancy hormones.

I mentioned the palpitations again and shared with her my encounter at 2 o'clock this morning and she is now wondering if it's asthma related. She thinks that I may be having a slight asthma attack, and my lungs constricting is causing my heart to go wacky which is why I'm feeling palpitations. So I'm supposed to use my inhaler when I have a palpitation and see if that prevents the feeling of not getting enough oxygen.

I came over to my mom's house after my appointment and I just had a palpitation again, so I took a hit of my inhaler, and now all I feel is my pulse racing a bit. Fool

She didn't do a vaginal, and I didn't ask for one. I listed all of my early labor symptoms and she said I'm probably going to go early, but that she can't do anything to help speed it along until 37 weeks and only with medical reason or she'll get in trouble and be written up. Biggrin I chuckled then asked "so what if I go buy some castor oil?" I chuckled after I said it, cause I'm not that desperated yet. She laughed back and said "then you'd have a really bad case of diarrhea and be even more miserable". I love my doctor.

After I mentioned that I do have my baby shower to look forward to on Saturday she said there ya go, that'll put you in labor every time!! Smile

We had a talk about post partum depression, what doc wouldn't bring that up with the kind of emotional breakdown that occurred?. Smile

She did give me a glimmer of hope reminding me that my cervical os was slightly open 2 weeks ago, so that I'm probably not going to be pregnant for the full 40 weeks.

We, again went over the when to go to the hospital list, and then she scheduled the next 3 weeks of weekly appointments.

Then I left the doc's office, called my mom, had another good cry, then I drove past my house after seeing that my babysitter's car was not there (DS convinced him to take him to McDonald's) and then I went by the store and got myself a Mt. Dew, a turkey salad sandwich (yum) and a tiny Ben & Jerry's ice cream :icecream:, and now I'm feeling better emotionally. I doubt I'll do any more laundry today, though. :laundry:

Yeast infection?

So I suddenly have this excessive amount of discharge and it's white and lotiony, not clumpy at all. I have swelling, but I've had that all week without the loads of discharge. There is a smell, but my skin is not red or irritated, there's no itching or burning.

I've only had one other yeast infection before in my life and it was clumpy and itchy and burning.....

I called the doc's office and the nurse didn't know what to tell me.

So, I'm gonna go to the walk-in clinic and see what they say.

I'll keep you all posted.

I just saw this just now! A belated welcome to your lodge. At this point any weird pains or discharge seems likely to be normal to me! I hope your baby stays in a bit longer, but it won't be long now no matter what! We are so close.

I have a creamy discharge sometimes. I was told it was normal when I asked about it. It comes and goes and I have not had any other signs of it being from an infection. If you think it might be, it is simple enough to have the doc take a look in a scope - though you will always have a range of "normal" flora (bacteria and yeast that are in balance from natural competition) so some is still normal.

Also, the doctor said that extra mucous is normal as you get closer to labor. So. . . more things to look forward to! Yay!

Your discharge sounds pretty normal to me...if there is no burning or itching I'd say everything is fine. Though KUP on what the doc said about it! HOpe everything is going good for you today!

well, the doc at the walk in clinic suggested that it might be a bacterial infection and since my cervical os was slightly open two weeks ago, she asked me to go up to the birthing center and be checked out by them because of the possibility of spreading an infection onto the baby, or contractions due to infection.

Well, it's a good thing I went up, because by the time I got up there and hooked up to monitors I have contracting every 2-6 minutes. They were braxton hicks in nature because they were still varying, but for 2 hours I was not going longer than 6 minutes without having one. And I could tell I was having them and was even having a hard time maintaining composure during them.

It is a yeast infection, though very mild, but obviously enough to irritate my cervix enough to cause contractions. My cervix is still posterior and only slightly open, but not dilated yet, so no change on that one. They gave me a prescription for an internal cream to treat the yeast infection, then they gave me a pill to make me sleep and stop the contractions.

The doc at the hospital was glad I came in and said that I could be in labor, but it's probably from the infection and treating the infection should treat the contractions. She told me that the pill would make me sleep, and hopefully relax my uterus enough to stop the contractions. She said "either you'll wake up in real labor and come back, or you'll wake up and the contractions will be gone".

So I got home after another 4 hour visit with L&D.

So far I've been up for almost 4 hours and I'm contracting at least 2-3 times each hour, but they still feel like BH. At this point they're only slightly distracting. I do lose my train of thought while having them, though.

I'm taking it easy so that I can make it to my shower this afternoon. Once that's over, then the baby is welcome to join the world. Smile The doc at the hospital would like to see me make it another week, but if baby came now, it wouldn't be bad.

K.

Gotta run so DH can use the comp.

Here are the only two pictures I took of the shower. It was a joint shower for my lil sis Noelle (due Jan 20) and I, hence the two names on the cake.

I think I did pretty well with the loot. Some stuff I didn't need, some stuff I did. My MIL bought me a diaper bag knowing full well that I might not like it. She couldn't find one I would like and so she just bought one from Wal-Mart as a last minute gift bag to hold the rest of her gifts. She told me where the receipt is in the bag so I can take it back and then apologized saying "they had very few choices that weren't pink". Smile

I love my MIL, she's a doll. Smile

So here are the pics:

Oh, and I've been continuing to have contractions, so who knows. I'm not timing them at this point, because I'm only having a few an hour and they are still inconsistent. I figure that by the time I need to time them, I will know I'm in labor. Biggrin

NE Way, gotta go supervise the bringing in of the gifts.

Well, with the swelling that I already had going on down there, I'm finding it hard to insert the applicators. Not to mention that I pulled my left tricep attempting to give the hospital a urine sample, then yesterday after lunch, my left glute and hamstring spasmed just from walking. So I'm not exactly in the best shape to be attempting the kind of positioning required to treat the yeast infection, and I'm not about to ask DH to do it for me.

DH gave me a hard time last night. I went to bed around 7 because I was still groggy from the vistaril they gave me at the hospital, and he came into the room and said "I thought you were supposed to have the baby now."

After I attempted to insert the YI cream last night I was almost confidant I was gonna end up back at L&D because I either scratched myself inside upon insertion, or something. I hurt bad and then I was starting to contract again. I eventually fell asleep and the contrax didn't wake me up.

Later today I'm probably going to go to Wal-Mart and return the diaper bag and use the money from that and the gift certs to buy my breast pump.

I'm also going to the only Ju Ju Be retailer in town and see if they have the diaper bag that I want. It's a $100 diaper bag, but it has all of the pockets I want and it's not the messenger style. I hate messenger style, the diaper bag I had with DS Jacob was messenger and I just about ripped off the flap because it was such a hassel, and unfortunately it seems to be quite popular right now.

Well, It's almost lunch time so I suppose I better get dressed. Hopefully I can put my pants on without causing more injury.

Well, I really don't like using the cream as I can't tell what discharge is what. But when I got up at my regularly scheduled 2am bathroom trip, there was a little more than the white YI cream when I wiped. In amongst the tons of white YI cream was a little goober looking thing. Similar to what would come out of a child's nose. (sorry, kinda gross). There was no pink to it, in fact it was kind of a greenish yellowish goober about half a centimeter in diameter. I continued to wipe in search of pink tinge or brown or something that would more resemble mucous plug, but nothing. It definitely looked mucousy, but more like nasal mucous than cervical.

I have my next appointment tomorrow. Maybe she can shed some light on whether it was my plug or not. I can't believe with all of the cramping and other issues I've been having that I still have not made any progress from the check at 34 weeks. I may just make it to 40 weeks after all, though I'm anxious to hold this LO in my arms already! Smile

Biggrin For some reason I was thinking today was Wednesday, even though it was our turn to bring snack on Tuesday (and we did) and DS Jacob was not dressed for Chapel (that's Wednesday) and I called my mom knowing full well that she was not working today (She has Tuesdays and Thursdays off).

I guess I just have to wait patiently for Thursday to come. Biggrin

So I really feel like I'm on my period with the slight crampiness and the bloating type feeling and the discharge (from the YI cream)..... Sad

I'm gonna go take my dog for a walk (with a friend) and hopefully it will help all that. I figured I should start getting my skiddish dog used to walking with the stroller. So far, she doesn't seem to be afraid of it in the house, but once it's out on pavement, it might be a different issue. It is a new stroller for us and it took her a few weeks to get used to the one we had for DS Jacob.

I'm sorry about the YI that sounds like a big drag, but it also sounds like your body is getting ready for birth day:) I hope the walk is fun and that your dog doesn't mind the stroller....though I did giggle when I was reading about it. Have a great day!

My dog actually did excellent! I couldn't believe it. I brought a friend along with me in case someone else needed to hold the leash, but she did so well. I gave her treats when we got home. Smile

I think the walk is doing something. We only walked at a leisurely pace for about 30 minutes or so and I'm feeling quite a big of pelvic pressure/activity. Not sure if the baby is just pushing on it, or moving around, or what, but I've had to go to the bathroom so many times since we got back.

Right now I'm just waiting on DS Jacob to finish his sandwich and then we are going to go to Wal-Mart and walk around some more. I'm hoping that the pumps are in so I can get one. The website is now saying that it's not available in stores, so this shipment may be my last to get it. I hope that it's in so I can buy it and not worry about it any more. My parents said they'd help us buy it, but they don't have any money right now, so I'm gonna put the $17 I'm short by onto our credit card because I think DH will understand the need to buy it while they have it.
