Intro

Wow my own lodge! It can't be possible that I am that far along! I think I have been in denial for the past few weeks that I am so far along and it's finally hitting home!

My name is Krystal and I am 22, mom of Caleb whos 17 months, and wife to Nathan 24. We were married in December of 2005 after "dating" for almost 2 1/2 years, though 2 years of it he was serving a mission for our church in Japan! We were going to wait to have kids until he graduated college (this April yeah!), but soon realized we couldn't wait that long. Just 8 months after getting married we found out we would have Caleb after only being off bc for 2 weeks!
My pregnancy with Caleb went pretty picture perfect with the normal symptoms of morning sickness, weight gain etc... I have been in the room and helped with 3 of my nieces being born all within the last 6 years. My sisters have all had unmedicated vaginal births. I expected the same thing to happen for me. At 35 weeks I had a high blood pressure reading (only 5 points higher than my norm) and was told I was developing pre-e. My doctor said it was fine for now, but that if it went up any more I would have to start looking at early delivery because it was the only cure. At that point I still thought I would have a vaginal birth, and that things would go my way. My sister had high blood pressure during pregnancy and never had any problems. 2 more weeks of appointments went by and my blood pressure kept increasing, but my very small amounts, which I have now learned is VERY common in late pregnancy! I had no knowledge on the matter, and accepted that my doctor said I was developing serious pre-e. At 37 weeks I was ordered a Non-stress test which I was told came back with results showing the baby was stressed during contractions, and that I would need to deliver within the week. I was sent home on strict bed rest and told we would set an induction appointment up soon, but to come in to L&D if I felt sick or had any form of headache. Needless to say, I was STRESSED that day! Over the evening I developed a slight headache, and was convinced by DH and a friend that I should go into L&D just to get checked... Once in labor and delivery I was first told I was going to be induced, then within minutes told I was being prepped for a c-section because my blood pressure was too high for a vaginal delivery (total bogus!). I was told in the hospital that my bp was 180/110, which I know is high, but have now seen my chart and it was never really that high... I was lied to! After a seemingly routine c-section (which I was SO sick all the way through!) I had my beautiful son weighing 6lbs 3 oz. I was horrified by the event, and it lead to problems breast feeding, bonding and just my overall well being. I was depressed, and convinced I had been cheated of what I deserved.
Shortly after DS's birth I started researching more and more of what happened and why. I learned that I had some seriously bad treatment and that I could have a different birth next time.
When DS was 9 months old we decided to start trying again for our next. Just a few weeks after getting off birth control we found out we were expecting again. My body works to get pregnant easily...why would I not be able to birth normally? I was convinced that I wanted a natural birth this time. I researched OB's and found one I thought was natural VBAC friendly. Just a few weeks into pregnancy I started looking at home birth options, and felt it was really the best and most appealing option for me. After talking to DH about it and watching BOBB, we decided it would be a good option for us. DH is very supportive and encouraging of me having this baby naturally and it has been so helpful to have SO much support! I often wonder how women do it if their husbands aren't in it just as equally! We found a midwife early on that is a student midwife, and was eager to assist us in our home birth. She has been great! I have been seeing both an OB and my midwife throughout the pregnancy to have insurance coverage on tests I have chosen to take at the OB, and then the wonderful care from our midwife! The last few appointments with the OB have been horrible though! They ALWAYS stress me out right before taking my bp and then try to tell me I am getting pre-e again. My blood pressure is totally normal at my midwives appointments and EVERY test I have taken on request of the OB has come back COMPLETELY normal.
We are eagerly awaiting our HBAC and the wonderful experience I know it will be!
At my last OB appointment on Thursday (10/2) I was 40% effaced, and not dialated at all. I had the GBS test done at the same time, and am still considering if I want to go back next week for one more appointment or if I will just call in to find out my results. I am tempted to go for the cervix check (I know that's stupid) simply because I want to know if I am the same or further than I was with DS at 37 weeks. I still have to decide if I want to go b/c if I do, I have to have another NST which I am not super thrilled about.
We are SO excited to welcome the new addition of our little girl in the next few weeks. I am starting Cheyenne, Nettle, EPO, and flavanoids(sp?) tomorrow to help with labor prep. I am so eager to see how everything will play out in the next few weeks!
Sorry this intro was so long! Thanks for reading if you made it to here! Here are a few recent pictures of me and my family.

Great intro (and there were NOT too many pics!) Your DS is a handsome little man! I can't wait to read about your HBAC. And I would imagine that you can go to the OB to get checked if you want and then just refuse your NST, or can't your midwife just check you?

Thanks ladies for all the kind replies! The last few days have been no fun..I have been sick with a cold, but I think today it is finally clearing up a bit! DS has been sick for a few days also now. I guess I am glad we are getting through our first colds of the season early though before LO arrives! I think it would be peer torture to have a cold while being in labor!
I think I have decided to see the OB just one more time! I hope I am not tempting fate by doing so, but feel it would be good to get a copy of my latest tests. LIke I said I also want to get checked to see in comparison to DS at 37 weeks where I am. I am SO curious to know when I will go into labor. My midwife said she will check me at any point if I want her too, but I know it's not necessary so I feel silly asking...I think after this week I wont ask to be checked again until more like 39 weeks if nothing is happening by then!
DH found out he has a fly out interview out of state for a day and a half October 29th and 30th....so we are hoping she is here by then for sure! If I don't start showing some signs in the next few weeks (bring on some contractions) of labor starting I am going to start doing something about it...I don't know what yet, but I will think of something! Smile I don't remember any hard contractions with DS, just a few hard BH, but I also didn't go past this week of pregnancy with him either, so I'm hoping my body starts doing something here!

I had an OB appointment again on Thursday and decide to let them check me. I am 1 cm/60%/and baby is -2 station. I really hope she isn't settling in for too long! I want her to come in about a week and a half...haha like I get to choose that huh? I am still taking the EPO, and RRLT(pregnancy tea)...I have yet to feel any painful contraction though! I am kinda worried about not feeling any contractions yet...I hope it doesn't mean I am not progressing! We have gone on walks etc and I feel my tummy REALLY tight, but never anything even close to painful or timeable...I am begining to wonder if I will be pregnant for 42 weeks this time!

I didn't get contrax with DS until after my water broke, then out he flew! Hopefully you'll get lucky and not have to deal with all the pre-baby contrax. that seem to be driving a lot of moms nuts right now! YAY for 1cm/60%/-1!! You're on your way!

One of the many benefits of RRLT is that they make your contractions not as painful. So it is possible you are having lots of BH, and they just dont stand out to you like they did with DS.

What a great intro! I hope that you are able to get the natural homebirth that you are hoping for!

I hope that LO decides to show before DH has to leave for his interview. DH was supposed to go on a business trip around the 25th of this month but luckily they decided he didn't need to be there considering that we have a baby due the next week.

Welcome to your lodge. Thanks for the intro, you have a beautiful family. I'm so sorry the treatment you received with regards to ds's delivery. That must have been hard to emotionally recover from. It's great that you've found a hb mw and that you have such a supportive dh, that is so very important. I'm looking forward to following your journey. Yay for some progress!

Krystal, how are you holding up lately? Sounds like you have great progress for 37 weeks! I was closed up high and tight at 37, so at least you know you probably will pop before you get to the point where I'm at! Smile

I am feeling great today and most days actually. I kinda wish I was having some of the late pregnancy symptoms to indicate labor was soon...but I haven't really had anything. I "think" I may have lost a small part of my mucous plug today, but it wasn't bloody at all so I don't know really what that means...I guess she will come in her own due time. We are just getting excited!

Loved your intro!! I can't wait to hear about your HBAC! You said you wanted to compare where you are with where you were with DS, what were you with him at 37 weeks?

With DS I was only a fingertip dilated and not effaced at all at 37 weeks, so I am just a little bit further along then I was with him. Thinking about it now...I don't know if it was such a good idea to compare b/c I have no clue when I would have gone into labor with him haha...oh well it's still good to know. I am wondering if I should be checked anymore... Anyone know how likely is it to cause problems being checked weekly? I am a curious cat and keep wanting to know if things I am doing to progress are really helping at all...I know I'm a dork!

I'm no help with checks, they just don't do them here. Like you though, I was hoping for more "clues" that things may or may not be happening. I bet I will still be firmly here into November!

I went in for my LAST appointment with the OB today. After a horrible experience with him stripping my membranes without permission I can't see going back! He said he was just going to check me and the we would talk about possibly doing a membrane strip... Well he checks me and said well this might be a little uncomfortable or something like that and he proceeds to strip my membranes.... It hurt like no other!! I don't know if it was because I wasn't prepared for it or what, but geesh, I hope I'm not that wimpy when it comes to labor pains! He said I am about 10% more effaced at about 70% and dialated to a loose 1... and baby is -1 station. A little progress but not much to call home about!
After he stripped my membranes I sat up and I was SO dizzy and nauseous. I almost hurled...but I asked for a glass of water and that helped calm things down. DH said he thinks the doctor was too forceful and I agree..... I will NOT being going back especially because he said he would like to strip my membranes at least once a week until I go into labor....NO WAY!!

That is soooo wrong! I can't believe he did that to you, my midwifes last time wouldn't strip membranes until 40 weeks, and only then if your over 2 cm. Your only dialated a tiny bit so I'm sure it was very painful for him to be doing anything inside there!! Hope you have a good night and I look forward to watching your updates.

I had a great appointment today with my midwife. She was FURIOUS that the doctor stripped my membranes as well. I guess in the medical journal it is very specific that a women who is GBS + (which unfortunatly I am) should not have her membranes stripped, unless is is a last possible option when overdue... So now I am on even more herbs to hopefully clear up or keep the GBS down and outta the way. I don't know if I posted about choosing to do hibicleans instead of antibiotics, but that is what I have chosen to do. The British Medical Journal has a study that shows it is just as effective as antibiotics. My routine of meds is now quite intense which is annoying, but well worth it. Twice daily I take Cheyenne, Nettle, EPO, Vit C, Echinacea, Bioflavanoids, grapefruit extract, Probiotics, my normal prenatal, and 1 quart of Pregnancy Tea (a combination of things, but mostly RRLT). Wow it seems like a lot, oh and then there is the EPO that goes in vaginally every day. It will all be worth it when this little girl is here though!

Overall, I am feeling great! My BP, urine analysis, and weight gain were all great today. I am up 12 pounds now since finding out I was pregnant...I hope it doesn't get too much more than that! Oh, and she said I have NO signs of swelling! I couldn't wear my rings with DS after 30 weeks and they are still comfortably loose now at 38 week which makes me happy!

I just want this show to get on the road in the next week or so...but I am having NO symptoms of labor starting any time soon, so I wont get my hopes up! We are going to start walking hard core tonight to get things moving hopefully! I'd love to hear about any other natural inductions that I could start doing soon!

I wish I could say there was something that worked for me, but there isn't:) It sounds like your body is doing a great job cooking your little girl! Let us know how the walking goes. Do you think Caleb understands what is getting ready to happen?

unfortunately nothing new today! I sept like a baby last night though so I am well rested if something were to happen! I have a chiropractor appointment today, so I am hoping something he does will help! Last night while laying in bed I realized if I pushed on her bum I felt TONS of pressure down in my pelvis...I wonder if that is a bad idea to do that? I am really hoping she comes soon....DH leaves next Wed for his 2 day trip and I am getting nervous! Dh keeps reminding me that DTD is a good way to get things started, so we gave that a try (TMI) but still nothing. I did have one really good "tightening" after the accupressure, but nothing after that. I think I will repeat doing it nightly just for kicks!

Caleb seems to be pretty oblivious to the whole idea that we are going to have another baby around here soon. He say's "baby" and "Hallie" and will point to and kiss my tummy when saying either of those, but I'm not sure that he gets it still! He has been super cuddly lately though and wont let anyone but me comfort him if he gets hurt...SO maybe he knows something is up.
I put the baby mobile up in the crib today just to make sure I wasn't missing any pieces, and Caleb freaked about me not letting him in the crib to play with it. I told him it was baby Hallie's but, still he has no idea really who she is so he just got upset.

I found out my mom has bought her plane ticket for next Friday to come down and be here for 2 weeks! I am so excited! I just hope Hallie doesn't wait for her to get here...My mom would love it if she did and I would love her to be here..but I am in no mood to wait that long!

Hmmm, I may have to look at that natural induction method link and bookmark it for future reference, lol! It is so exciting how close we all are! I had some baby things in the wash today too that my parents sent over from the US and I really wanted a baby to put them on, lol!
