My intro!

Hello!!! I’m Amy, I’m so excited about having a lodge!! I don’t know how far back to start with my intro, so I’ll try not to bore you. I was the single girl forever, I hated dating in high school, college, after college. My family said I was mean and called me the one date wonder because I wouldn’t go out again if I knew I wasn’t into the guy after the first date. After working for a couple years I decided to build a house and move out on my own. (My parents had been kind enough to let me live with them after college until I got some money and established myself with a job.) Six months after I moved into my house I decided I was ready to date. I was talking to several guys, and dating for fun. That’s when Chris emailed me. He lived 2 hours away, was 7 years older than me, and a complete stranger. His grandparents wintered in Florida and met some people from my church. I guess his grandparents were complaining they couldn’t find a good girl for their grandson and they were getting worried because he was getting old (30 hehehe). My friends from church said they knew a good girl and passed my email along to Chris. They had tried to fix me up with people much older than me before. I take it as a compliment that they thought that much of me, but it was also scary in the previous experiences. Anyway, Chris and I talked on the phone several times and he finally asked me out on a date and emphasized that 2 hours was a long long way to drive to meet a girl he didn’t know. We had our first date that lasted 8 hours on a Saturday afternoon. He went out of state the next weekend, then we started seeing each other every weekend from that point on. I had started training to run a marathon about 2 months before Chris and I met, and when we started dating I was just getting into the 10, 12, 14 etc. mile runs on the weekends. So I would run in the morning, he would come to my house and I would be ready to sleep by 7:30PM. He was a saint because he put up with this from January to May when I ran the marathon. He actually spent the whole day of the marathon with my parents while I ran. I’m proud to say I ran the entire marathon very slowly, but I didn’t have to walk or crawl to get across the finish line. We dated for almost 1 ½ years when he proposed and we planned a wedding in 6 months. I paid for my wedding so it was nothing spectacular, but it was very nice and I was told several times that I was the most relaxed bride anybody had ever seen. After the wedding I sold my house and moved 2 hours away from everything I knew to live in Chris’ house. I got a job working at a nursing home for a therapy company I had worked for in the past. I was ready for the job changed, but I still really miss my friends and church family from home. A couple months before our first anniversary Chris and I decided to start TTC. My sister had been trying for 2 years with no luck and I was afraid I would be in the same boat as her. It turns out my sis has PCOS. We didn’t temp or anything, and I used ovulation predictor kits about every other month. We actually conceived on a month I wasn’t actively consentrating and I had decided if I didn’t get pregnant in November I wasn’t going to worry about it until after the holidays and I’d talk to the OB/GYN at my yearly appointment in January. It took us 7 months, but I found out I was pregnant on December 3rd. I was super lucky with the first trimester. I had to eat, but I never really got sick. The second trimester was trickier. Starting at 15 weeks I had Right sided back pain that limited me a lot at work and in play. I couldn’t tolerate more than 30 minutes of sitting, standing or walking. I would go home from work in tears. I saw a chiropractor and physical therapy, but nothing seemed to change it. There were points when I promised my husband this would be the only child I carried. At 33 weeks something magical happened. The baby dropped a little bit and I was finally pain free. Exhausted, but pain free!! That brings us to now. YEAH 36 weeks tomorrow!! I’m supposed to be working 4 hour days but I’ve never left work in less than 5.5 hrs. Since my back is better, it’s not nearly as big of a deal. I’ll post my belly picture tomorrow if I remember to take it. Sorry this turned out super long, thanks for hanging in there through it!

I thought it would be interesting to do a slideshow of my pregnancy from the first pic at 8 weeks, 14 weeks, 28 weeks and 36 weeks. I thought I had a pooch at 14 weeks but I'm pretty sure I was wrong now.

I'm ashamed of myself that I had to go back to June 2007 to find a picture of Chris and me together. Lots of pictures of us seperately and lots of pictures of our dog. I guess it's something we need to work on. Photobucket" alt="" /> Yep. . .I'm the photographer in that picture. . .I guess we need to ask people to take our pictures too. Holy COW that's big. Sorry Photobucket !!

I really hope the baby has my personality and DH's looks. Chris is painfully shy, and it's just not fair for him, he gets nervous in sunday school class! I'm really not too afraid to be in front of 100 people so long as I'm not doing improv. So far the LO is demonstrating DH's traits inside. He doesn't like to be touched and will hide from a hand when it touches my belly. He wakes up at 10:30PM, DH is a night owl and I'm ready for bed at 9:30 most of the time. My MIL said that Chris was a cuddle bug when he was little so I hope that I get to enjoy that.

Today I'm hoping to get the rest of the house clean. The nursery is mostly ready besides things DH has to take care of. (The quilt fell off the wall, darn scotch wall hooks don't stick to plaster). My doula and her partner are coming on Tuesday night so I'd like the house to be presentable for them. I really really want to make brownies, but I don't NEED brownies. I'll let you know on that one. I have held off for over a week now. I get the box out and put it back at least once a day.

Speaking of unexpected guests!! DH called me from outside the house this afternoon and told me he invited his sister, BIL, parents and grandparents for dinner. I made the brownies, homemade ice cream and he was responsible for the rest (hot dogs and hamburgers, chips etc.) I was NOT exactly excited, but at least the house was cleaned earlier this morning.

Before everybody left though, I heard suspicious noises in our walkout basement and the men were trying to take the garage door off to replace it with steel doors later this week. I live on 4 acres of woods and there are rumors of bears in our neighborhood not to mention the racoons and other rodents. I put a quick stop to it and asked they didnt start something they couldn't complete tonight since they were starting at 9PM!!! Anyway they left with the door still up thank goodness!!

Seriously you've got to lay down the law sometimes :)...don't start anything that might bring bears into the picture!!!

Glad you made the brownies now aren't you:) Seriously you really can't go wrong with a little something sweet made at all times. If you can't stop your self from eating it all you can always freeze it!

Today I almost made it out of work in 4 hours!! Emily inspired me to try making a sling, and found no sew instructions on the babywearing BB. I got a tealish blue/green color (I wanted purple, but thought DH would kill me if I carried my baby boy around in purple!) It looks complicated, but can't be any more complicated than the baby Bjorn carrier! I meet with my doula and her partner tomorrow night. I think I'm supposed to have questions for them. I'm not sure what I don't know. . . Any suggestions on what to ask?

Yay! I need to cut my moby wrap and get the hardware for the ring sling I want to make...I do have a pattern and fabric for a pouch...I'm just feeling really lazy and don't want to sew. I sew so much for my job...it's hard to motivate myself for personal projects.
I'm not sure what questions to ask your doula. Mine is coming on thursday and she seems to have an agenda....maybe once you guys start talking the questions will pop into your head.

What kind of sling are you planning to make?

Have you met your doula's partner before. If not, I would ask her about her philosophy on natural childbirth. I would probably ask her questions that I had for my doula when I interviewed her.

I think it will be similar to the moby slings. It's a long (5 yard) strip of fabric. I'll have to find a way to mark the middle to make putting it on easier.

I met with my doula once, but haven't met the partner yet. They both have histories of homebirthing their children. One has 5 and one has 7. I don't know that I had many questions for her the first time, she did most of the talking. I'm bad about asking questions, I'll ask them in labor, when I know I have a question!

Really? Lol I'm the opposite. I probably talked and asked her to death. Lol

I just grabbed my notebook. Maybe you could use some of those questions if you didn't yet? Anything else you probably know already, so I won't post those Q's.

-Can you tell us about experiences you had with birth and your philosophy?
-How will you be able to support us during labour?
(I can imagine she will say.....emotionally, physically.....and something else I can't think of right now. You could ask her to give you examples and go into detail.)
-What are the services you provide after birth?
-When and where will we meet when I start labour?
-How do you handle conflicts with medical personal?

You probably had most of those answered while you were interviewing her. Or while she was talking.

I've made a Moby Wrap few weeks ago but with little more fabric since my hubby is really tall. I was really easy and I didn't need to saw it.....cut only.:p
I think I would just fold it in half and probably saw a mark in the middle???

I just need to brag! I froze enough black raspberries to make 19 pies. That's the best raspberry year yet! We are NEVER moving from this property! On a pregnancy note, I had BH the entire time I was freezing and seperating the berries. I've decided when the time comes I'm gonna have to cook myself into labor!

I forgot to take Benedryl last night and of course I'm wide awake at 4AM. I know this must be the time for my LOs feeding, I've woken up at 4AM since I got pregnant (before I knew I was pregnant). For the past month I've done the benedryl thing per my doctors instructions. I don't know HOW I forgot last night. I won't forget tonight!!

I met with my doula and her back up partner tonight. They were really great. Together they reminded me of the ladies on saturday night live on the NPR talk radio show. Kinda entertaining! We went over my birth plan and they agreed with everything I'd written, I'll go over it with my OB tomorrow. I had the best 2 hour nap in the world this afternoon after work. You know it's a good nap when you wake up with a fist imprinted on your face!! I had lots of BH today but I think it was because I was just SOOO tired from last night. With me luck with the GBS swab tomorrow!

Today I had my 36 week appt. BP, HR, weight gain was good! The doctor went over my birth plan with me and the only thing she didn't like a lot was the IV issue. I requested only a hep-lock unless fluids were indicated. She said we'd see how it goes, if it's a long labor then they will probably push the fluids. (Why can't I just have something to drink?!?!?) Overall she thought everything else was reasonable. I was worried about the intermittant fetal monitering, and she said it was negotiable.

Glad your appt went well! I can't understand what the objection is to only having a HepLock, but you can always labor longer at home, keeping hydrated through drinking. If you arrive at the hospital, having already made a lot of progress, I am sure they won't be bothering you too much...at least no one ever even made a move to come near me for an IV or HepLock. And frankly, I might have hurt someone at that point if they had tried. Wink

Glad your appointment went well.

About the IV. There is no way I will let them hook me up. I was hooked up when I went to the hospital and I was sooooo swollen. My underwear didn't even fit anymore. As long as I can drink by myself there is no way I will let them hook me up again.

My doula suggested I ask the Dr at my next appointment about clear liquids. Since we negotiated on the intermittant monitoring this week, maybe next week i can bring up the clear liquids because I probably WILL need fluids one way or another if all they are offering is ice chips. I made some gatorade ice cubes to sneak in somehow. I used the clearest flavor gatorade I could find.

Today I had BH all day through work. Only one or 2 that stopped me in my tracks, but nothing painful and nothing worth timing. Defiantely just BH. I end my work day with the same comment every day "If I have my baby tonight please do . . . tomorrow" I don't feel like I'll have my baby tonight, but I don't want things to go undone before I forgot to tell somebody. I'm really ready to not be working though. I'm tired of all the underbelly work clothes. They just roll on under my belly and start falling down. Everytime I walk, stand or bend over I have to readjust my clothes. I'm in sweat shorts and a tank top the minute I get home. So much more comfortable!!

Ditto this!! That's what I plan to do. If you show up pretty far along, I figure few people will want to argue with you Smile

And I'm so glad you like your doula! If you decide to labor at home for a while, will she come to your place or just meet you at the hospital?

Are you feeling better about a hospital delivery? I remember that you were a bit worried about it a month or so ago....

My doula will come to my house and help me labor there so long as my water hasn't broken. I've been given strict instructions from the OB that if my water breaks I am to get to the hospital within an hour or so. . .I'm going to aim for the or so. They even said "Don't wait for contractions" I am a little worried about this because my sister and mother both had their waters broken spontaniously and didn't have contractions immediately. I think I'll spend my hour walking up and down the hill and and drinking as much as I can. I'm more encouraged about the hospital birth after discussing my preferences with the OB. I think they will do what they can to accomodate me. The OB said the epidural makes all the difference in labor. . .if you make it without it, you can get off the monitor more, you can shower, you can roam the halls, and go to the bathroom. So. . .I hope my water doesn't break first, and i hope I can labor at home a long time. Who knows how it will go for me.

I gotta tell you, the help lock hurt more than contractions with Natalie. it was NUTS!!!! I had them take it out after an hour (and I protested getting it to start with). So I think that being willing to even have that should be a concession of sorts and your doc should chill. Lol But that's just me.

And I hope your water doesn't break first because it sounds like you will have a lot less pressure on you from the OB ...
