Welcome to your lodge! The nursery looks great! I have really liked getting to know you over the last at least 7 or 8 months.
Your practice and my practice should get together and have tea Isn't it amazing how you can have different people in one practice be so different in their opinions about your care! I'm really looking forward to following your journey.
Same here Jenny! I have loved following your journey so far...and look forward to the coming weeks...I can't believe Catie will be her so soon! I'm so excited for you and your DH...and all the furbrothers and fursisters hee hee...
I have decided for our next baby that I will be going to a different practice....definitely!
I'm rather bored today, so I thought I'd type a little here.
Tomorrow is my 38 week appt. Like I said in a pp, I'm seeing one of my fave midwives. I'm going to ask her about redoing the gbs swab as I've been trying some of the herbal/home remedies you ladies have mentioned...and after reading another post by Emily on the July board, the 5 week period has me interested...I'll update you on what she says.
My sister is taking me to my appt. I work about an hour from where the office is, so I decided I didn't want to be driving myself...sometimes I get lots of BH ctx when driving...so I didn't want to be alone. DH said I could just take the whole day off from work if I wanted to as well...so..that's what I'm doing yay! So from home, it's only about 35 min. No one has ever gone w/ me other than DH a couple of times. I am excited for my sister to hear the hb and everything...she's never had children of her own and never will...she has two DSDs and that's good for her. I know she's super excited about this baby too. All of our other nieces and one nephew live far away so we never see them. Syd is going to be so spoiled...
Well, I'm off to drink some milk...I have horrible heartburn today...ugh...but it's been fun sitting here surfing and watching my belly roll all over the place...she's quite the gymnast today
Gaviscon! Take it, you'll thank me. Milk doesn't touch the really bad stuff (and in fact the lactose actually makes my heartburn WORSE!). Those little fizzy white tablets are a GODSEND!!!!
You can gaviscon at the pharmacy...it's WONDERFUL!!! It's better than Tums or Rolaids. It's wicked awesome. But, there are two kinds...the chewable kind and the liquid kind. I opt for the liquid kind. It's kind of like drinking liquid chalk, but it's way better than the chewable tablets. They foam as you chew them and it's puke-worthy foaming action. Horrible, horrible little things.
So you can have a GBS test re-done? That's great to know. Ya'll have given out some gret advice on how to get rid of it. I haven't gotten my results back yet, but that's interesting!
Leigh Anne, did your weekend get any more interesting???
"puke-worthy foaming action" hahaha...that is hilarious! I could never stomach maloxx or pepto b/c of the chalkiness...DH did get the liquid though...he said that was all he could find...I washed it down w/ some OJ (like I do maloxx/pepto)...it helped sooo fast...I can't believe I'd never heard of it. We have tums and rolaids around like candy here...I only like the multisymptom rolaids...works wonders for gas pain, but I haven't taken any during pg b/c I don't know if it's truly safe.
We'll see if I can get the gbs swab done again. I'm going to ask my midwife today (whose name is also Kelly LOL)...I've been doing the garlic, vitamin C, and hoping that it will have some effect. I also am going to ask about my colonization number...if it's high or low...they didn't tell me last week...only said that it was positive. It's really throwing a wrench into things so if I can get it redone and it's negative...that would be such a blessing.
You guys are probably wondering why it's such a big deal...well, the abx is the most part, but all the things that "could" happen...quick labor and not getting a full dose or not doing them at all (which is where I'm leaning)...and having to stay in the hospital for 2 days (w/ normal vag. delivery, it's only 1 day)....my DH has to finagle (sp?) work and it's a big PITB.
and alas, no my weekend was completely boring. It stormed all day and I didn't even leave the house. But, everyone keeps telling me to catch up on sleep and since I can't sleep at night, yesterday was good for some naps
My sister will be here in 6 hrs to take me to my appt. I'm really glad to see her...it's been a while...she's a really busy person and they just got back from vacation...I've missed her. Oh and today is starting out great...I had the best b'fast...LOL...scrambled eggs w/ morning star farms sausage all in a whole wheat tortilla w/ cheese...YUM...now I'm full haha.
what is everyone else up to today?
Leigh Anne, the real risk of contracting GBS lies in three factors:
1. You are preterm -- delivering before 37 weeks, which you are not
2. Prolonged Rupture of Membranes -- PROM, where your waters have been broken for 18 or more hours. This is especially a concern if there are lots of unnecessary cervical checks because that pushes the bacteria up to and past the cervix to where the baby is.
3. Fever during labour.
I'm not getting a retest and I"m doing the vit C, garlic and echinacea too in the hopes that I can reduce my colonization, just to ease my own mind. My lab didn't provide the exact number as to how large the colonization is, just that the swab was positive. Uggg. I wonder if yours is the same?
THese are all things
Leigh Anne - missed your intro earlier, not sure why I didn't click on this sooner. Anyhow, love the nursery and what a great picture of YOU! Let us know how the appt goes (I know you will). I don't think it's a bad idea to have the swab redone, I think I'd ask for the same. Sure hope you have one of your favorite midwives when you do go into labor. What a crazy time you've had so far with those NSTs!
