Sorry we're a little late with this! Welcome to your lodge! I'm excited to follow your journey!
Welcome to your lodge! I'm excited to get to know you and your little one and to follow the end of your pregnancy!
I guess I've gone crazy, I swear when I looked at a calander it was longer from your due date! Sorry about that hun. I can't wait to hear your story
Thanks everyone! Holy crap, I can't believe it's so close now! Guess I need to write an intro...
I'm Brittany (28 ) and my DH is Ralf (27). We got married on New Years Eve 2007, but we've been together since 2000. This will be our first baby, and it is supposedly a girl (I still occasionally freak out that the u/s tech got it wrong and we are going to have a very effeminately dressed little boy! )
DH and I watched The Business of Being Born really early on in the pregnancy. It may have even been before I was pregnant, I can't remember. Anyway! It kind of set us on the path of wanting a natural birth, mainly for the reason of cascading interventions that we want to avoid. I've been doing the Hypnobabies home study course and hope to use that during birthing. DH was seriously wanting me to do a homebirth, but I guess I was nervous with this being my first, that I didn't know how things were going to go or how I would react to labor. So I ended up going with an OB and hospital delivery, but with a clear birth plan stating that I plan to go naturally and what kinds of things I want to avoid.
It has been a pretty easy pregnancy for the most part. First trimester I had major fatigue and slept a ton, second and third trimester I had/have some pretty bad allergies/congestion, and around 33 weeks I got what can only be described as Satan's hemorrhoid (thankfully that has gotten better!) Other than that, things have been fine. I was checked at my 35 week appointment and baby is head down, but I was not dilated or effaced at all. I'm debating now whether or not to be checked again, since I know it means very little. I just can't help being curious! I am kind of thinking that she may be posterior, though. I tried doing the belly mapping at spinning babies and I'm not 100% sure, but it seems like she's facing the wrong way. So I have started following some of the tips to hopefully get her to rotate around!
Thanks everyone for welcoming me here! I have definitely been more of a lurker but I love following your lodges and I'm excited to have my own!
Great intro. It's great that your DH is so supportive. I wasn't ready to commit to a homebirth with my first, so I know how you feel. Is your OB fully on board with your birth plan? Have you toured the hospital?
My DD was posterior for a lot of the end of my pregnancy, but she got into the right position before the birth. Good luck getting your little girl to rotate. I had a few cervical checks last time when I started to notice more contractions, but they didn't actually tell me anything and were pretty uncomfortable for me (my mw didn't have very small hands) This time I plan to not have any until labor starts.
We did the L&D tour and preparation visit on Monday. We got to sit down with a nurse and get all registered, and then she answered all our questions. It definitely helped ease some of my fears about interventions because she was very open to my birth plan and assured us that nothing would be done without discussion and consent. I told her that I was using Hypnobabies and she had never heard of anything like that, but seemed genuinely excited that there was such a method out there for people doing a natural birth. I gave her a copy of the "How to Assist the Hypno-family" handout because she seemed really interested in it. I'm hoping when the time comes I'm able to use the Hypnobabies really well and impress them all with the program so that maybe they spread the word about it!
It was a little bit scary going into a birthing suite and actually seeing where this will all take place. But I'm glad to know exactly where I'll be and what to visualize now. It's getting so close!
