I finally had some time to type up my introduction.
My name is Janae (30) and Dh is Matt (33). We met during second semester my first year at college. We started dating Valentines and were engaged Easter Sunday. Quick I know, but when you know, you know. We were married August 15, 1997(I was 19, he was 22)….it has been a GREAT 11 years!
In April of 1998 we were thrilled to find out that we were expecting baby #1 two days before Christmas (despite being on the pill). In September I started gaining a LOT of weight, to which the DR told me to stop eating so much pizza. WHAT??? We were poor students and couldn’t afford pizza. Then I commented that my BP was higher than normal, but was told that it was high when I first came in. At the beginning of November I was having visual disturbances which the DR again brushed off. One day at my regular appt the DR finally listened to my concerns and realized there was something wrong….I had developed pre-e. An amnio was preformed to determine if baby’s lungs were mature which they were not. So I was put in the hospital on bedrest. The DR had come in and told me that he would be back to give me the steroid shot for baby’s lungs but he never returned. I was sent home for Thanksgiving under strict orders for bedrest. I remained on strict bedrest until Dec.3rd. I went to my regular appt and was told that I was severe pre-eclamptic and that I had to go up to the hospital immediately to be induced. I had a hard time getting a hold of DH but was finally able to get the message to him that we would be having a baby. I was put on Pit, Mag Sulfate and had to labor on my left side. It was miserable. I had horrible back labor that I could do nothing to help. After being in labor for more than 10 hours I had had enough and asked for some Nubain to help me sleep. It worked great….I was still able to feel the contractions but was able to get some rest. I pushed for about 1 ½ hours and after 17 hours and an episiotomy (no I did not give consent and it was not needed) my son, Chase, was born weighing 7# 5 oz on Dec 4, 1998. It took months for me to heal from the episiotmy.
When Chase turned 18 months we were ready to try for another baby. I got pregnant on the first try and baby was due March 16th, 2001. I wanted a different birth so I sought out a practice of MW. I had a relatively easy, boring pregnancy until 33 weeks when I went into pre-term labor. I was given several shots of terb to stop the contractions and was sent home on bedrest and meds. At 36 weeks I got of bedrest and began developing pre-e again. The MW that would end up delivering me stripped my membranes 3 days in a row. The third day (38 weeks) I went into labor 4 hours later (after DTD, walking, and nipple stim). What a difference this labor was. I was able to eat, walk around, sit on the birthing ball, and sit in the Jacuzzi tub. I started to get back labor so the MW suggested that I get on my hands and knees and arch my back. After only 5 minutes of doing this I felt baby turn and felt my first contractions in my stomach. I did ask for some Nubain again this time around. After 8 hours of labor and 50 minutes of pushing Trey was born March 1, 2001 weighing 8# 1oz.
Again, when Trey turned 18 months we decided to try for baby #3 and got pregnant first try again. We had moved back to the same place where I had baby #1 and I was NOT going back to the DR I had with him. I was pleased to find out that this DR did have a MW so I saw her throughout the pregnancy. This was a pretty uneventful pregnancy other than developing Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction. There were times were I couldn’t walk so Dh had to carry me to bed. We found I was dilated to a 3 at 33 weeks but the BH I was having weren’t anything to be concerned about so no bedrest. At 37 weeks I started having more contractions so I went to the hospital. I was told to walk for an hour and I went from a 3 to a 3 ½ so they gave me the option to walk some more (it was midnight), go home and come back later, or they could break my waters. I opted for this and I immediately dilated to a 4 ½. After laboring most of the night they decided to give me a small dose of pit. Well I stalled out so we turned that off. I spent about 2 hours on the ball all the while the MW kept asking me if I felt like pushing. I felt good and said NO (she later told me that she could tell that I was ready to but the ball was keeping his head up). As soon as I went to get off the ball his head was right there and I was shaking so bad that I couldn’t climb up onto the bed. With some help I was able to get up onto the bed, but got stuck on my hands and knees so that is how I delivered. After only about 10 minutes of pushing and 9 hours of labor Layton (boy #3) was born May 19th, 2003 weighing 7# 3oz. Although I had pit this time around (very low dose) I went without any pain meds and felt so much better afterwards.
DH wanted to stick to our 2 year spacing with babies after Layton, but I was NOT ready for another baby...He was such a hard toddler. So in July of 2006 (Layton was 3 at this time) I decided I was ready for a baby. I started charting because I wanted to try the Shettles method for a girl. I knew I wanted June baby so we decided to start trying in Setpember. I had been Oing around day 12 in the previous months so we DTD accordingly. Well, day 13 came and still no O. Then day 14 and 15. I was worried that I was going to miss out on a baby for that month (I really wanted a baby at this point) so I got DH to DTD the and then lo and behold and I Oed that day. My 4th pregnancy was undoubted my easiest…I felt great, didn’t gain as much, and had no problems except for testing GBS +. I had a new MW because we had moved out of state and she was wonderful. When I was 38 weeks I took some castor oil and then went to the park for a picnic with the family. I had fun chasing my 4 yr old around (I am sure that I looked pretty awkward, but it was fun). I then took the boys to the library (this was their second day of summer break) and then went home to take a nap. I woke up at one time to Trey laughing at me. He told me that I was moaning in my sleep. I fell back asleep. I woke up at 4:30 pm and noticed I was having some noticeable contractions. I had had similar contractions earlier that morning for about 3 hours but they stopped completely around 8am. I watched some Oprah and munched on peanut M&Ms. A little after 5 the contractions were noticeably getting stronger and in a good pattern so I got on the computer to time them. After about 15 minutes sitting timing them I grew uncomfortable so I asked Chase (DS#1) to time them for me as I stood and swayed my hips. A few minutes later and I felt “wet” so I went to the bathroom. There was blood and this scared me. I had heard that bloody show was more like a pink tinged mucous. I had DS get Dh and we started to get ready to go to the hospital. A friend came over to get the boys and then DH and I left. We got to the hospital about 7pm. I was checked and was told that I was 5cm, bulging bag of waters, and very stretchy. The nurse said that she could have probably stretched me to a 10 but wouldn’t because I needed the antibiotics. I told her of my desires for a natural birth and she was great to give me what I wanted. I had the first dose of meds and was allowed to walk around. I remember squatting between contractions and telling DH that baby was right there. After waiting maybe an hour they started the second dose of meds. I was sitting in the bed and my back was KILLING me…to the point that I felt like I was going to lose control. So I turned over to my hands and knees—instant relief. A little while later the nurse asked if I was ready to turn over. This primal sounding “NO” came out of me and Dh told the nurse that I had delivered like this last time. She was fine with that. My MW was at the school doing physicals so as I was waiting for her to get there I was fighting the urge to push but pushing a little. I was kneeling on the bed resting the raised head so I couldn’t see anything, but as soon as I heard my MW come in the room I pushed once and felt/heard a pop (my waters went everywhere) and then pushed again and out came baby Zander at 11:18pm June 12th. It was such an empowering delivery.
Now for this pregnancy…Not even 6 weeks after Zander was born I had this very strong feeling that there was another baby impatiently waiting on us. I tried to ignore it but the feeling wouldn’t go away. So after much talk we decided to try after Zander turned 6 months. I wanted to try the Shettles method for a girl but my cycle was so out of whack due to bfing that it was hard to tell when or IF I was Oing. Again, I got preg on the first try. I was still nursing but my joints were hurting me something terrible so the MW recommened that I wean him. It made a world of difference. I haven’t gained as much weight (although I did start higher because I hadn't lost it from Zander) which I am happy about. I did fail the one hour test and passed the 3 hour test but was told that I should really stay away from sugars. I notice after eating sugary things that I get stomach cramps, nausea, and headaches. I was looking forward to delivering with my MW again however, DH found out this summer that he was being transferred out of state. We just arrived in our new town 2 weeks ago. I have searched for a MW that will deliver at the hospital (DH isn’t comfortable with homebirth) but there isn’t one. So now I am seeing a DR. I am pretty disappointed about this but hope that I will still be able to have the birth that I am hoping for.
Whew….I didn’t realize how long this had gotten. Sorry.

No more babies for us - POF with very low AMH levels, told the only option would be IVF, so am stopping here.
I love seeing your handsome boys! Hope you find care you are comfy with!
Great intro! I hope you are able to have the kind of birth you want, even though you had to change providers.
