His ped also said to get him the Enfamil vitamins since breast milk doesn't contain vitamin D. So I think I'll run out to target some time this weekend and pick up all the stuff I need to get. I just need to get my brain to remember the nipple shields... Cmon brain remember!
This may be a stupid question, but if breast milk doesn't contain vitamin D, doesn't that mean the baby doesn't need it? Awesome that he's already back up past birth weight, hope the nipple shields help!

Babies do need vitamin D but get it naturally from the sun so it's not nessesary to give them more, but Dr's think they need it I don't know why, I've never given mine supplements (but my dr doesn't recommend it either).

I am not a big fan of supplementing vit. D either. We are a family that loves to be outside so I know we have on problem getting ours from the sun.

Seriously, get the shields and use them if you really want to bf for an extended period. I know it seems easy to just pump and bottle feed right now but trust me (I've done both ways) and it is way easier for you to give it from the breast and keep your supply. The longer he gets it from the bottle, the harder it will be to transition him to the breast.

I'm not a fan of vitamin supplements myself, but here in MI, the sun won't be out consistently for probably another 4-6 weeks. Once it is, it probably won't be warm enough to take him outside for any extended period of time until June. It stays pretty overcast and gross until late May, early June, so I think the supplement is necessary until we can get him outside on a regular basis.

I'm going to try to make it out to Target today to pick up all the stuff I need to get, breast shields included. I would like him to BF, I think it would be a nice bonding time for us - since we only spend like 21 hours a day together, clearly not enough bonding time! hehe

haha, yeah you do spend a lot of time with them as newborns, but as they get older and start exploring (my DD is quite the explorer these days), it's nice when they can come back to you and get both the closeness and nutrition of BFing.

Today was a tiring day... didn't get a ton of sleep last night, spent about 6 hours at the in laws, I've been feeling pretty physically run down the last day or two - I think I might be getting sick. My boobs hurt sooo bad, I don't know what I am doing wrong. I've been trying to pump as little as possible, but even if I only pump for 3 - 5 mins on each side, I still get 5 to 6 ounces of milk. Its like I am over producing milk.... my boobs ache all day. They get rock hard and I have to pump right away or they just hurt worse. I hope this stops soon! On top of that, I either started my period or I started more PP bleeding today... Not something I was hoping to deal with this soon I need to get some sleep before lil man wakes up... I just wish I could sleep for like 14 hours to try and rejuvenate a little. No such luck with a lil baby in the house

Sounds like you're doing too much since you started bleeding again, it's normal and annoying. Try to get some rest in there. Take it easy.

Feeling good today, lil man slept great last night. I think he only woke up twice to eat, which gave me a lot of time to sleep! I pumped at 10:30 last night, and then again at 6:30 this morning. Didn't wake up engorged, which was sooo nice! I'm hoping that means that my body and lil man are finally getting in sync...

He has been really fussy during the day, which I am wondering if hes being that way because we have been out so much the last couple of days. Too much visiting I guess... Too much visiting makes me fussy too

Today has been a long day.... Hes been up every hour or so, screaming his head off. He keeps spitting up when he eats... not a ton, but its the consistency of cottage cheese. DH says its normal, but I still don't like it. I need to go shopping tomorrow to get some basics, but I don't want to take him out. I think I have thrush... my nipples have been sooo itchy the last day or two, and pumping is getting increasingly painful. I think the antibiotics I was on killed all the good bacteria in my system... which caused the thrush. So I'm going to try some natural remedies before I go for more medication. So far William doesn't have anything in his mouth that looks like he is getting it, so that is good. I started bleeding again... *sigh* It keeps starting and stopping, which is irritating because I have to keep a pad on all day...

I can't believe how exhausted I am... Even getting woken up 2 or 3 times a night seems to zap my energy. Time to try and grab a nap before DH goes to bed...
