Thank you! I am excited and am grateful for all the support you ladies provide!
    A little about me:
I come from a family of 9 siblings. My mom had them all natural without any meds. I suppose you could say she is one of the main reasons I have chosen NCB. I realized if she could have 10 children (all but one over 9 lbs) using NCB, then I could at least give it a try.
I met my wonderful DH at work. I am an RN and he is an Anesthesiologist. We had known each other for more than 2 years before we even started talking. I was chair person for a committee and I enlisted his help to teach a Code Blue refresher course. We started talking casually and we realized that we had many similar interests (horses, church, being outdoors). After another 6 months or so, we started dating. Our first date he came to my church and met my family. I knew then he must be pretty interested if he would put up with that for a "date".
We were married after dating for a total of 9 months. Our son was conceived a month after we were married. I planned on going natural when giving birth and so we practiced relaxation techniques. The last few weeks of my pregnancy, my BP started to gradually climb. My OB was very conservative and had a very low induction and c-section rate. However, he started talking about induction at my 39 week appt. My swelling was terrible so he prescribed lasix for me to take and told me to go home and stay on bedrest until my 40 week appt. He told me before I took the lasix to think and pray about it as he wasn't completely comfortable giving it to me. I never filled the prescription as I felt the risks were too great.
I was completely prepared to go at least a few days over my EDD and was absolutely surprised when, at a little before midnight on the night before my EDD, I woke up to use the restroom and had a ton of bloody show. It wasn't just a little pink tinged mucus, it was like a period. I realized that the back pain I had been feeling that night was actually contractions. I had done a few natural induction methods in the few days preceding since my OB was talking medical induction, but I didn't really expect it to work! Prune juice, walking, nipple stimulation, and Eggplant Parm apparently really work or it was just a nice coincidence.
To make a long story short, I was in labor, but very early labor. However, my BP was very high so I was admitted and not allowed to get up except to use the bathroom (UGH!). I tolerated the contractions well until my OB broke my water at 9 am. At this point I was only 4 cm. The contractions intensified but spaced out. After two hours I was still only 4 cm. I knew the next step was Pitocin so I consented to a non-narcotic epidural. I was so tired. They started Pitocin at around 12 pm. I was able to sleep for a few hours. At 5:15 I was ready to push. I could still feel the contractions so I knew when to push. Truman was born at 6 pm weighing 8 lbs 5 oz and he was 22" long. I had a small tear that required four stitches.
I felt like I had let myself down by getting the epidural, but I knew that had I not agreed to it, I might not have had the strength to push. Truman was VERY alert and breastfed from the start like a pro. I wish things had gone differently, but I had a very healthy baby and a quick recovery.
This pregnancy has been very different from my pregnancy with DS from the start. I never had a period, so didn't realize I was pregnant until I started having MS. The MS only lasted until I was around 18 weeks and it wasn't as severe as what I had with DS (it lasted the entire 9 months). We found out at our 19 week U/S that we are having a girl. When I was about 24 weeks, I was informed that my OB would no longer be delivering babies. He is in his 70's and has cancer, so it didn't come as a surprise. The search for a new OB began. Fortunately, DH works with all of my OB options, so we were able to pick one that seemed to fit my criteria (low c-section and low induction rates). She is very sweet and personable.
I feel more pressure and back pain during this pregnancy than I did with DS. I attribute it to chasing a toddler all day and to the fact that this baby sits really low. So far my BP has been very good and I am hoping not to have to worry about it this time. My next appt is Wednesday and they will do another U/S to guestimate size and make sure the LO is head down. I cannot believe I am 36 weeks already. We still don't have a name picked. I think we will probably be undecided until she is born.
Well, I didn't mean to write a novel, but it looks like I did! I am looking forward to sharing the next several weeks with you ladies!

Neat story! I hope you get your natural birth this time, although it sounds like for Truman the epidural was completely necessary.

Welcome to your lodge, Beth! I think that under the circumstances of your first birth, the epidural was necessary, and you have probably read my explanations about how I had a sort of similar experience last time, and I completely understand the disapointment. I hope this time you get to have a spontaneous labor and natural birth.

I had an OB appt today. I had to wait an hour, but it was worth it. The U/S measurements are right on target for my EDD. My OB is guessing that this LO will be average size- around 7 1/2 lbs. I hope she is right.
My first BP measurement was "high". I don't know how high as the MA wouldn't tell me numbers, but she took it again a few minutes later and it was 122/68. Still in the normal range for me. YAY! I had gained around 4 lbs in the past two weeks. However, I was not swollen at my last appt and this appt my feet were very puffy. I tend to fluctuate by 2-3 lbs in water weight from morning to afternoon. My total weight gain is now around 23 lbs.
She did a Strep B swab and checked my cervix. She said I am "very soft", 2 cm on the outside, 1 cm on the inside, but still fairly long. Her "guess" is that I should go right around my EDD. Again, I hope her guesses are right. It's nice to know that these silly BHs are doing something.
So a good appt with some signs of "progress". Of course, it could mean absolutely nothing, but it makes it easier to be positive these last few weeks if there are some indications that I won't be pregnant forever!
