I had my MW appt. today. So still nothing going on. I'm now 40w5d and I'm still only dilated to 1 and am now %50 effaced, but that's it. Baby has dropped some but I've go no contractions at all, and no signs of labor. I really hope that my body kicks into gear soon because I would love to deliver while my sister is here and she is only here till Sunday morning!
I'm feeling rather split on whether or not I want baby out though. I mean, yes, I do want my sister here. But I also want baby to bake till it's ready. I'm just a bit worried that my body won't do what it's supposed to. With DD's pregnancy, I was taking an herbal supplement starting at 37 weeks (red raspberry combination - it has false unicorn root and blue and black cohosh in it) - and I really think that is why I went into labor by 40 weeks.
I'm worried I take after my mother as far as labor goes. She was 3 weeks late for my brother, 2 1/2 weeks late for me and 6 weeks late for my sister. They don't let you go that late anymore - especially at the hospital where I have to go. They induce on your 42 week mark. I REALLY don't want an induction. So as much as I was on the fence about it - I went and got some black cohosh tea on the way home from the MW's office. I have a cup steeping right now. I hope that I at least get a few contractions so my body can realize what it can do - and then maybe it will get it's act together on it's own before I hit the 42 week mark.
I am now scheduled for an u/s on Monday to check fluid levels and an NST, followed by a MW appt. I will have to be there from 7:30-11:00.... not looking forward to it. So if any of you believe in magic or whatever - send some my way for labor vibes!
In the meantime I'm going to sip tea, spend time playing dolls w/ my DD and finish planting the basil seedlings in the garden.
Well, I don't believe in magic, prayer or any of that so I'm no help in that department. But....I think it is really important for you to stay positive and relaxed (hehehe....that's the hypnobabies talking). But seriously, positive thinking can produce results.
Have you considered castor oil? I've heard it can make you feel sick, but it can also help get contractions started.
So what happens if you decide to wait it out and simply don't go to the hospital until baby decides to be born? What can they do?

I really understand your anxiety about baby being born while someone is still around!!! I hope that this baby decides to come on its own while your sis is still here!

Do you know if your baby is turned the right way, with occiput anterior? I was just reading last night that baby being turned occiput posterior is a main cause of not getting those contractions going, and going "late" because baby's head has a lot more trouble engaging. That was it with my last one.
Sending labor vibes! Are you trying the other wives-tale tricks- sex, nipple stimulation, spicy food, fresh pineapple?
I'm a firm believer (now) of letting babies bake til they're ready but then, with my genes I'm very unlikely to go past my due date. I can imagine the impatience, especially with a hospital-imposed deadline.
Well, I could just wait it out and refuse to go to the hospital I suppose - but I'm pretty sure that since I'm on the state insurance and I have a "family nurse" that someone would eventually knock on my door....
I did just have fresh pineapple w/ dinner last night. Nothing, but that's what I expect from old wives tale remedies to start labor. I did buy a bottle of castor oil today - to have on hand in case I'm still preggo a week from now.... hopefully I don't have to resort to that.
My sister is here and we're having a great time. MY DD is so happy that her aunt is here that she doesn't want to spend any time with me or DH It's a bit of a nice break. I've had very few BH contractions today, and a bit less baby movement than usual, though it's still moving.
That's interesting about the OA presentation- my MW did mention that yesterday baby was "almost facing the perfect direction" though I didn't think much of it at the time. She also said that baby's head was definitely dropped down into position, but was floating a bit on the fluid. When she was checking me she told me that baby's head was right there, and then baby moved and went back up suddenly and didn't come back down again. Evidently it doesn't like getting poked in the head.
I had one tiny tiny spot of blood tinged mucous today though ONCE when I wiped... so maybe my mucus plug is finally thinking about starting to come out? I know it doesn't mean much, but at least it's something -which is more than I've been having. I'm also having a very grumbly tummy and a bit of nausea... not hungry really - but I'm making spaghetti & garlic bread for dinner - hopefully I can eat some because I've barely eaten today and i LOVE garlic!
