Wow I can't believe I already have a lodge!! SO exciting! I will have to post a proper intro pretty quick here! Thanks so much for starting this for me! I can't believe I'm already 36 weeks!!
Welcome to your lodge!
Wow my own lodge! It can't be possible that I am that far along! I think I have been in denial for the past few weeks that I am so far along and it's finally hitting home!
My name is Krystal and I am 22, mom of Caleb whos 17 months, and wife to Nathan 24. We were married in December of 2005 after "dating" for almost 2 1/2 years, though 2 years of it he was serving a mission for our church in Japan! We were going to wait to have kids until he graduated college (this April yeah!), but soon realized we couldn't wait that long. Just 8 months after getting married we found out we would have Caleb after only being off bc for 2 weeks!
My pregnancy with Caleb went pretty picture perfect with the normal symptoms of morning sickness, weight gain etc... I have been in the room and helped with 3 of my nieces being born all within the last 6 years. My sisters have all had unmedicated vaginal births. I expected the same thing to happen for me. At 35 weeks I had a high blood pressure reading (only 5 points higher than my norm) and was told I was developing pre-e. My doctor said it was fine for now, but that if it went up any more I would have to start looking at early delivery because it was the only cure. At that point I still thought I would have a vaginal birth, and that things would go my way. My sister had high blood pressure during pregnancy and never had any problems. 2 more weeks of appointments went by and my blood pressure kept increasing, but my very small amounts, which I have now learned is VERY common in late pregnancy! I had no knowledge on the matter, and accepted that my doctor said I was developing serious pre-e. At 37 weeks I was ordered a Non-stress test which I was told came back with results showing the baby was stressed during contractions, and that I would need to deliver within the week. I was sent home on strict bed rest and told we would set an induction appointment up soon, but to come in to L&D if I felt sick or had any form of headache. Needless to say, I was STRESSED that day! Over the evening I developed a slight headache, and was convinced by DH and a friend that I should go into L&D just to get checked... Once in labor and delivery I was first told I was going to be induced, then within minutes told I was being prepped for a c-section because my blood pressure was too high for a vaginal delivery (total bogus!). I was told in the hospital that my bp was 180/110, which I know is high, but have now seen my chart and it was never really that high... I was lied to! After a seemingly routine c-section (which I was SO sick all the way through!) I had my beautiful son weighing 6lbs 3 oz. I was horrified by the event, and it lead to problems breast feeding, bonding and just my overall well being. I was depressed, and convinced I had been cheated of what I deserved.
Shortly after DS's birth I started researching more and more of what happened and why. I learned that I had some seriously bad treatment and that I could have a different birth next time.
When DS was 9 months old we decided to start trying again for our next. Just a few weeks after getting off birth control we found out we were expecting again. My body works to get pregnant easily...why would I not be able to birth normally? I was convinced that I wanted a natural birth this time. I researched OB's and found one I thought was natural VBAC friendly. Just a few weeks into pregnancy I started looking at home birth options, and felt it was really the best and most appealing option for me. After talking to DH about it and watching BOBB, we decided it would be a good option for us. DH is very supportive and encouraging of me having this baby naturally and it has been so helpful to have SO much support! I often wonder how women do it if their husbands aren't in it just as equally! We found a midwife early on that is a student midwife, and was eager to assist us in our home birth. She has been great! I have been seeing both an OB and my midwife throughout the pregnancy to have insurance coverage on tests I have chosen to take at the OB, and then the wonderful care from our midwife! The last few appointments with the OB have been horrible though! They ALWAYS stress me out right before taking my bp and then try to tell me I am getting pre-e again. My blood pressure is totally normal at my midwives appointments and EVERY test I have taken on request of the OB has come back COMPLETELY normal.
We are eagerly awaiting our HBAC and the wonderful experience I know it will be!
At my last OB appointment on Thursday (10/2) I was 40% effaced, and not dialated at all. I had the GBS test done at the same time, and am still considering if I want to go back next week for one more appointment or if I will just call in to find out my results. I am tempted to go for the cervix check (I know that's stupid) simply because I want to know if I am the same or further than I was with DS at 37 weeks. I still have to decide if I want to go b/c if I do, I have to have another NST which I am not super thrilled about.
We are SO excited to welcome the new addition of our little girl in the next few weeks. I am starting Cheyenne, Nettle, EPO, and flavanoids(sp?) tomorrow to help with labor prep. I am so eager to see how everything will play out in the next few weeks!

Welcome to your lodge! What a fun intro, I'm so excited for you and to read your natural child birth story
Great intro (and there were NOT too many pics!) Your DS is a handsome little man! I can't wait to read about your HBAC. And I would imagine that you can go to the OB to get checked if you want and then just refuse your NST, or can't your midwife just check you?
