Shella, congrats on your lodge! Don't you wish we'd lurked more over here for our June 06 babies???

The only thing I can tell you is that no matter how intense or powerful your labor is- the feeling of birthing your baby without drugs, holding him or her in your arms seconds later, seeing your husband look at you in awe and wonder at what you did . . . man, it just does not get more intense or powerful than that. The feeling of empowerment that will wash over you is awesome and you feel like you could do anything!

I'm digging that also! I was just thinking about something similar this AM on the way to work. I know no-one who has had a NCB (my age), I was thinking man if I can really do it, WOW that would be awesome!

Ashley: thanks for those words of encouragement! I truly mean it when I say if I did not have the support of my pg.org girls there is no way I would be considering ncb!

When I got home from work yesterday, there were a dozen red roses waiting for me on the dining room table, from dh and Nolan to celebrate me starting mat leave and just cuz I think dh knew I'd been feeling a little uggy lately!! He's a sweetie! Then last night we toured the hospital L&D. It's the same hospital as I delivered DS but right now they are doing some construction/renos so things were slightly moved around. The bad news is, they used to have a "tub room" that had a nice big tub I was looking forward to being able to use this time around, but that is not available right now as that area is currently under construction, so I'll just have to make due with the shower I guess. The good news is, I'm confident they will support me in having a NCB The nurse giving the tour gave a little rundown of what to expect. One of the first things she said was, "if you tell us you want a natural childbirth, we will not offer you any drugs, no matter how much you are moaning, so if at any point you change your mind you will have to specifically request some medication." Someone asked a question about whether it was routine to have an IV put in and the nurse giving the tour said, "No, the only reason you would need an IV is if you are GBS positive, or if you request an epidural, otherwise we have no reason to give you an IV. You'll be more comfortable without it, and it'll be easier to move around." I was happy with that answer! Someone else asked about procedure right after baby is born, and she said, "as long as there are no immediate health concerns, the best place for baby is on mom's chest, and we will leave the baby there as long as you want, and really encourage you to start breastfeeding as soon as possible. We encourage the dad to cut the cord, and if you would like we'll weigh & measure baby and wipe some of the goopies off, but it's good to just take a little time with just mom and baby together before we do all that." Again, I was happy with that answer. So aside from no tub being available, it was good!

Then we toured the postpartum rooms. They have 4 deluxe rooms, that have a double bed (so dh can sleep there too!) a flat screen tv, a special menu, and are decorated to be more homey/less hospitally (ie. the one room is designed by Ethan Allan, etc). However, there are only 4 rooms, and the hospital delivers approx 500 babies a month, so those rooms aren't always available If not, the private rooms looked okay.

This morning I had my weekly doctor's appointment: up one pound, bp normal, measuring 38 weeks, hb 145. All is good, see ya next week doc!

Then I went for a short shopping trip, my friend wants to watch "Baby Mama" together (she thinks since I'm 9 months pregnant it'll be extra funny ) and since she's babysat for us before (for free always) I thought I'd go buy the movie and take it over to her place this afternoon and we'll watch it together! Well, the store had this Buy-One-Get-One Free bin, so since I was already buying "Baby Mama" I thought I would take a quick browse through. Mostly there was just crappy movies that would just be a total waste of time, but there was ONE copy of "The Business of Being Born" in there!! I couldn't believe it! So I grabbed it, and now I'm looking forward to seeing it too!

WOOOHOOOO on negative GBS!! That is awesome! I can't believe you got a free copy of TBOBB!? That must have been a mistake I'd be interested to see how Baby Mama is, those gals are funny. I'm sure your friend will be excited to see it with you. Hope your day is great.
