Haven't seen you in a while Taryl......hoping that that means good things for you!
I contracted really well all yesterday evening and into the morning but it has since tapered off a little. Husband took the day off to watch the kids this morning and drive me to and from the appointment, since I don't really love driving while contracting and a sweep will hopefully irritate things to the point of getting them going well.
Appointment is in a few hours
Glad hubby is around to help you out this morning. GL with appt. let us know how it goes.

Appointment went pretty well. I'm tired, feeling sick, and contracting a bit more now, but nothing big.
My blood pressure was 128/78, baby's heartbeat was 144, belly's still measuring 42 cm or so. Dr. Bell did a check and I was 2.5 cm and 75% effaced with a very soft cervix, so that is much better than last weeks' 1.5 cm, soft, no clear effacement. He did the sweep and there was blood on the glove, which is a good sign. It was the least painful sweep I have ever had and went very quickly, I wonder if part of that is because I am more dilated than I have been for previous sweeps?
He did notice that if he applied any upward pressure to the baby's head that he would float right back up, so that supports what I have noticed, that the baby won't stay engaged for any period of time. This is also likely contributing to the really prolonged early labor. Unfortunately there is little he can do for me, other than for me to keep squatting and staying upright. Unless something changes (like membrane rupture, lack of movement, whatever) he won't do any chemical induction or start getting concerned about lack of progress until my 41 week appointment.
There was a new doctor shadowing my OB, and he and she took some guesses at the baby's size through his positioning and belly palpitations. Now, both sets of midwives I had guessed the girls at over ten pounds a piece, and they were 8 lbs 4 oz and 8 lbs 15 oz, at 40+1 and 41+5 weeks gestation. They tend to be short and fat. So I was curious to see where they would ballpark this boy. Dr. Bell thinks he is 8-8.5 lbs right now, and the other dr. thought he was closer to 9 pounds. We'll see who was right! Baby was ROA, which was also good news.
I am feeling a little less frustrated about all the contractions since I got some progress out of it. I was hoping for a good 3 cm, but I'm not complaining about a lightly less. The effacement was really the bonus, since I know pitocin can dilate me but a cervical lip is much worse news to birth than a lack of dilation.
While I do hope the sweep will kick me into labor (I'm crampy right now, contracting maybe every 4-7 minutes) I am not thinking this will be the day without significant change. For whatever reason I have more peace about that today than I thought I would. We'll see how I feel as the week progresses, but I still hope things will pick up on their own without me going overdue.
I am still in public avoidance mode and generally feeling a bit annoyed and crabby, partially thanks to exhaustion and this cold, but it could be worse. Now, I'm off for a nap!
I am so glad that you had a great appt and that you have made some progress!

It'll happen when you least expect it. I'll just get you really angry and worked up and then BAM, water will break.
:P I'm glad you're making progress!
