I met with my doula and her back up partner tonight. They were really great. Together they reminded me of the ladies on saturday night live on the NPR talk radio show. Kinda entertaining! We went over my birth plan and they agreed with everything I'd written, I'll go over it with my OB tomorrow. I had the best 2 hour nap in the world this afternoon after work. You know it's a good nap when you wake up with a fist imprinted on your face!! I had lots of BH today but I think it was because I was just SOOO tired from last night. With me luck with the GBS swab tomorrow!
Today I had my 36 week appt. BP, HR, weight gain was good! The doctor went over my birth plan with me and the only thing she didn't like a lot was the IV issue. I requested only a hep-lock unless fluids were indicated. She said we'd see how it goes, if it's a long labor then they will probably push the fluids. (Why can't I just have something to drink?!?!?) Overall she thought everything else was reasonable. I was worried about the intermittant fetal monitering, and she said it was negotiable.
Glad your appt went well! I can't understand what the objection is to only having a HepLock, but you can always labor longer at home, keeping hydrated through drinking. If you arrive at the hospital, having already made a lot of progress, I am sure they won't be bothering you too much...at least no one ever even made a move to come near me for an IV or HepLock. And frankly, I might have hurt someone at that point if they had tried.![]()
Glad your appointment went well.
About the IV. There is no way I will let them hook me up. I was hooked up when I went to the hospital and I was sooooo swollen. My underwear didn't even fit anymore. As long as I can drink by myself there is no way I will let them hook me up again.
My doula suggested I ask the Dr at my next appointment about clear liquids. Since we negotiated on the intermittant monitoring this week, maybe next week i can bring up the clear liquids because I probably WILL need fluids one way or another if all they are offering is ice chips. I made some gatorade ice cubes to sneak in somehow. I used the clearest flavor gatorade I could find.
Today I had BH all day through work. Only one or 2 that stopped me in my tracks, but nothing painful and nothing worth timing. Defiantely just BH. I end my work day with the same comment every day "If I have my baby tonight please do . . . tomorrow" I don't feel like I'll have my baby tonight, but I don't want things to go undone before I forgot to tell somebody. I'm really ready to not be working though. I'm tired of all the underbelly work clothes. They just roll on under my belly and start falling down. Everytime I walk, stand or bend over I have to readjust my clothes. I'm in sweat shorts and a tank top the minute I get home. So much more comfortable!!
Ditto this!! That's what I plan to do. If you show up pretty far along, I figure few people will want to argue with you
And I'm so glad you like your doula! If you decide to labor at home for a while, will she come to your place or just meet you at the hospital?
Are you feeling better about a hospital delivery? I remember that you were a bit worried about it a month or so ago....
My doula will come to my house and help me labor there so long as my water hasn't broken. I've been given strict instructions from the OB that if my water breaks I am to get to the hospital within an hour or so. . .I'm going to aim for the or so. They even said "Don't wait for contractions" I am a little worried about this because my sister and mother both had their waters broken spontaniously and didn't have contractions immediately. I think I'll spend my hour walking up and down the hill and and drinking as much as I can. I'm more encouraged about the hospital birth after discussing my preferences with the OB. I think they will do what they can to accomodate me. The OB said the epidural makes all the difference in labor. . .if you make it without it, you can get off the monitor more, you can shower, you can roam the halls, and go to the bathroom. So. . .I hope my water doesn't break first, and i hope I can labor at home a long time. Who knows how it will go for me.![]()
I gotta tell you, the help lock hurt more than contractions with Natalie. it was NUTS!!!! I had them take it out after an hour (and I protested getting it to start with). So I think that being willing to even have that should be a concession of sorts and your doc should chill. But that's just me.
And I hope your water doesn't break first because it sounds like you will have a lot less pressure on you from the OB ...
I know I'm late to join in, but glad that you didn't meet much reisitance on your birth plan. So much of mine went out the window, but it wasstill a good experience. I hope that your birth is all that you want! Congrats too on your lodge. I'm off to read your intro!![]()
Your doula sounds great! Glad the birth plan went well. Take several copies w/ you to the hosp. Hope your BH contractions are doing something!![]()
