Okay, I figured I'd start this while the baby is bed and I'm wasting time before my NST. lol I'm not sure how long this will end up being.

First, for the TL;DR episode: My name is Jana, I'm getting ready to turn 28 on December 23rd. I'm married to Dave, and have 3 girls. No name baby boy is due December 31st.

I got married when I was 18 to Will, he's in the Air Force and currently stationed in Spain. McKenna was born June 5th, 2001, weighing 5lbs 5oz and 18 1/4 inches. She's currently 9. I had a really difficult pregnancy with her, complicated with hyperemesis. My labor and delivery with her were difficult, I had 44 hours of natural labor, she was posterior, and I ended up with a 4th degree tear. When she was a few months old, I went in and had a vaginal reconstruction done, the muscles had separated and needed to be reattached.

Amelia's pregnancy was COMPLETELY different than Kenna's. My ex was deployed during most of her pregnancy, and other than the normal morning sickness, her pregnancy was a breeze. At 20 weeks, I was told she was a boy by the perinatologist, so for most of my pregnancy, she was Joshua. I ended up with Pre-eclampsia in the last couple weeks, but nothing too serious. I had her naturally in the hospital after 3 hours of labor and about 3 minutes of pushing. She was 6lbs 14oz and 19 1/2 inches, born August 20th, 2003.

When Amelia was a few weeks old, she became extremely lethargic and was having issues with keeping her temperature up. She was admitted to the hospital, where they discovered one of her kidneys was shut down. She was put on IV antibiotics. During the same hospital visit, they discovered she also had a heart defect. Thankfully, she has done extremely well and is a normal, happy 7 year old.

    The girls with their dad:

In 2004, my ex and I separated and divorced, but (seriously) have remained really good friends. I think we just decided at the time that we were a whole lot better off as friends than a married couple. I suppose I could say that it was his fault or mine, but it really wasn't. He still spends holidays with us, and is a huge part of his kids' (and the ones who aren't his) lives.

In 2005, I met Dave. We had a lot of mutual friends, but we just never really got to know one another on a personal level. He was out in California, he was 10 years older than I am, and here I was with 2 kids. Eventually, I went out to California to go to Disneyland, and I will be honest, I'm not sure what happened. I think at that point we just kind of knew that this was what we both wanted. I was there for a week, and after that week, we were pretty much inseparable. He moved out here to South Dakota, and on Christmas day of 2007 asked me to marry him. We married on October 5, 2008.

In July of 2008, I had my Mirena removed. It had been 5 years, and it's time was up. Apparently, once you remove a Mirena IUD, it is possible to get pregnant immediately. And I do mean immediately. I got pregnant 6 days after having it taken out. We found out in August, so yes, I was pregnant at my wedding. lol (Which really kind of sucked. I'm not a big drinker, but it's not a lot of fun to watch everyone else get smashed at your wedding and be drinking water. lol) At 20 weeks, we found out we were having another girl. (Surprise? Not so much at this point.) Nevertheless, I was super excited for her. My pregnancy with her was really super smooth.
    38 weeks:

I was induced with her because my blood pressure was getting out of control. I did have an epidural with her, which was really odd, considering I knew I could do it. I had done it twice before without any sort of pain relief. I think my support system was different with her, so it felt more 'necessary'? I'm not sure. Delaney Anne was born April 29th, 2009. She weighed 6lbs 8oz and 19 1/4 in.

    and at 18 months:

To avoid this getting too long, I'm going to post one right after this

Back in April, we had decided that we weren't done yet. I saw how close my older 2 girls were, and I wanted that same closeness for Delaney in a sibling. Dave had admitted that he had been feeling that way, too. In true me fashion, all I had to do was mention having a baby and my uterus exploded at the opportunity. We found out in May that apparently, we were really fertile people.

In August, I went in for my anatomy scan. The tech was really quite talkative, and was super nice. I thought it was kind of odd that she wasn't real forthcoming with pictures of baby, but I figured it was just how she was trained. She told us it was a boy, and I immediately asked her to get me a shot of that (just for confirmation, you know? I wasn't about to do THAT again. lol) She said they never came out when she tried, but first time, and voila:

That Saturday, I had noticed that I had missed a call from my OB, but it wasn't unusual for him to call just to check up and make sure everything was good, so I waited until Monday to call them back. I got a call back at 9:22am (I don't know why the time sticks out in my mind. Probably one of those "holy crap this is life changing look at the clock" kind of moments) and was told that baby had shown some abnormalities on the ultrasound. He asked me to come in.
I found out that baby has a cleft lip, and possibly a cleft palate. (Palates are really hard to see on ultrasound, but from what they can tell, it is a unilateral cleft lip only. We'll see at birth how serious it is.) He also had a echogenic focus in the heart, which is kind of a nice way of saying "Something is there, but uh, we have no clue what". He gave me the option to have an amnio, since there was more than one identifying feature for a genetic abnormality. He was leaving town for a few days the next day, but offered to come in that next morning and do the amnio if that was what I chose. I opted to go ahead and have it done. This was Tuesday, August 17th.

The next couple of weeks, which I thought would be the toughest of my life, actually went by very quickly. I had an appointment with Maternal Fetal Medicine on the 1st of September, but we weren't sure if we'd know before that what the results of the amnio were. They ended up coming back 31 August. Genetically, everything was perfect. He is absolutely 100% a boy. I'm not sure I can describe how it felt to know that everything was "right", because at the time, it was almost uncomfortable how relieved I was.

I don't know if it was meant to be that we were faced with the idea of something life long and serious, but it helped put his cleft lip into perspective. At this point, it's not something I think about very often, it's cosmetic and can be fixed relatively easily. Compared to something much more serious, I'll consider it a gift.

At 29 weeks, I started contracting. Lost my mucus plug, went in to L&D. Got a shot of terbutaline (I'm really, really sorry to those of you that have to deal with more than one shot of that stuff. I swear, I felt like a Parkinsons patient waiting for their next hit. That stuff is horrible.) Contractions weren't changing my cervix, so I chose to stay off the Procardia (which gave me a horrible headache and made me feel like I was going to fall over) in favor of the contractions. Since then, I've contracted every 3 - 4 minutes pretty consistently.

This pregnancy has definitely been a different sort of adventure from my pregnancies with the girls. When I sit and think about it, I wonder if the want for another child was meant to teach me some sort of lesson. I've learned so many this time around that my first 3 never even came close to teaching me. As of today, I'm 36w 3d. I go in twice a week for NST's (I have a super lazy baby, and he doesn't like to be reactive.) but so far, everything looks good.
This was on Thanksgiving, so uh, around 35 weeks?

You look fantastic! I can't imagine contracting every 3-4 minutes so early on, you are a strong woman.

My mom is from Mitchell, SD - hadn't been back in over 10 years but I was just there in September for a funeral and remembered how long of a drive it is. Thank God for all those bilboards
