That is a great story and beautiful birth to share with your daughter down the road. How did your DH handle everything? I imagine mine would be in panic mode.

Default Update - one week postpartum midwife visit

    Baby
Weight gain: We were only expecting her to be back at her birth weight (8 lbs 4 oz) and she amazed everyone by weighing in at 8 lbs 12 oz at just one week old!!!

Breastfeeding: Obviously going very well, judging by how she is packing it on! She figured out how to latch on day one and feeds very well, if somewhat erratically (sometimes she lets me sleep 4 hours at a stretch - yay!). She is not a spitter, at least not so far...But she is a champion pooper (what goes in must come out, I suppose).

    General condition:
Looks like her belly button is ready to drop off soon; her skin is peeling but the worst of that seems to be over. She occasionally shows a fierce temper, but still sleeps most of the time. She can sleep through a train wreck, thanks to her brothers' constant noise. In fact, she sleeps better with noise than in silence, but I don't think that's unusual given all the noise that goes on around you when you're still in the womb.

    Mom
Feeling: Much better, physically! Hemorrhoids are shrinking, breast engorgement is over, nips no longer sore, and I'm getting just enough sleep to manage. Emotionally, I'm a bit of a weepy mess sometimes, but I blame the hormones. Mostly I just get really anxious about how to cope with three under three...once DH goes back to work, even though we'll have a postpartum doula she will only come in 4 hours a day. BUT, one day at a time, right?

    Total weight loss
so far: 15 lbs (30 to go) - not that I'm trying, just documenting for posterity.

    Next MW appt.:
As baby is doing SO well, she doesn't need to see her again until her six-week discharge appt. Note to self: phone the clinic to book for around May 26.

What a perfect appt. Think you LO can have a discussion with my LO about eating? Maybe teach him a thing or two?

Sounds like you are both doing great! When does DH return to work? I can't imagine 3 under 3, alone all day (even with a PP doula!)

Wow, how did I miss your birth story? That was amazing!! What a great story to have to share with your DD when she gets older. It sounds like both of you are doing great!

    Discharge Visit with Midwife

Well, Anna turned 7 weeks old yesterday, so we saw the midwife for the last time today. And I guess that means this is my last entry in my birth lodge...sniff. It is great to have this record of the journey with her. Thanks to all of you lovely ladies for your support and looking forward to sharing the parenting experience with many of you...

Anna at 7 weeks, 1 day:
Weight: 11 lbs 14 oz (she has grown 3 lbs 10 oz since birth)
Height: 23.25 inches (she has grown 2.75 inches since birth)
    Hearing Test: passed!

We will have a professional photographer in next Monday to do her first official portraits, but in the meantime here are some photos that I took today:
