I'm glad you are all home now and that Bowen is doing well! I hope the meeting with the LC is helpful.

Well, breastfeeding is actually going quite well, now. I still use the shield, but I try without at least once a day just to see how he does. No success there, yet, but he eats really well so I'm not too worried. The new thing that's really stressing me out is that he doesn't want to go to sleep at night. He spends from about 8:30 to midnight screaming and fussing and fighting sleep. Dad and I take turns bouncing, rocking, nursing, driving, etc. but nothing seems to help. He just screams. He's happy during the day when he's awake. I just don't get it. He's just utterly inconsolable until he finally wears himself out. We slept in the chair again last night from around 12:30 to 2:30am and then we went to bed and slept straight through to 7:30 am. It's just so weird.

The other thing is that I'm really not sure about this whole new mommy/newborn thing. I feel nervous and anxious all the time and I don't have much of an appetite. I don't think it's full-blown PPD, but some of the symptoms are there. I have an appt. at the clinic today and I'm going to bring it up. Unfortunately, it's with a provider that I'm not particularly fond of, but, oh well. After all I've been through, it's really the least of my worries. I just don't feel like I've actually enjoyed being a mother, yet. I'm too nervous and worried. I love, love, love Bowen. He's so amazing and beautiful. I just don't feel quite right yet.

Anyway, here are a few pix:

He's beautiful Rheannon! So sweet. Love his cheeks!

I like your attitude about the chat at the clinic. I hope they give intelligent & helpful advice.

Sarah's baby chiropractor was a terrific help so you might consider that...the earlier the better. The lady who helped Sarah was amazing in helping with the latch and pooping issues, but she feels strongly that chiropractic work helps prevent cholic type issues as well.

Certainly talking about anxiety and PPD issues is of great importance. The fact that you adore Bowen is wonderful. Many Moms take a longer time to bond with their infants, and that comes as a surprise to them. I hope things come together nicely for you and DH and baby boy. Keep us posted when you find time!

He's absolutely adorable! Seriously, I want to bite his little cheeks! I'm weird, don't mind me .

Sorry I can't offer up anything more than for the screaming. I hope he finds a new MO soon. I've heard The Happiest Baby on the Block DVD has some good tips.

Talking with someone about your anxiety will help a lot. As you probably know, it's totally normal to feel really weird about the whole motherhood thing at first.

I don't want to freak you out, but my PPD started with the same feelings of anxiety, generally being overwhelmed, and disinterested in life/baby/etc. I didn't realize how wrong those feelings were until I felt better, and then the difference was stark. A traumatic birth experience started it off for me as well, and the symptoms weren't obvious 'enough' that those around me thought to say anything. Please, tell your midwife or doctor and see if they recommend treatment. I am about as against mood stabilizers and anti-depressants as anyone could be (bad past experience) but in cases like PPD, even mild PPD, the benefits of trying treatment fat outweigh any disadvantages. Worst case scenario, they don't help and you get off of them and try something else.

I'm glad breastfeeding is going well, good luck weaning him off the shield! It can be done, it just takes time. As he gets older, it should become easier.

I'm glad BFing is going well! SOrry about the all night screaming sessions, Lily is doing that too, not just at night though - I've got no good advice, but I totally understand.

I'm glad you are going to bring up the PPD signs at your appointment - I think that talking about it and dealing with it now is a really good thing, better deal with it before it gets worse.

I'm glad BFing is going well. I know the shield is annoying, but I think it's great that you're trying without it every day. I have been doing that more with Emma, but she usually doesn't take without it as she's used to it now.

I agree about definatly making sure your providers hear your concerns on the PPD. I haven't experienced it myself (although I had wicked baby blues in the hospital because I was so nervous for Em) but I suffered from major depression and anxiety disorders for the majority of my life. A huge part of why it went on for so long (in that it didn't improve) was because I didn't get treatment right away.

I hope your providers were able to help and that you're feeling better! The newborn stage is SO overwhelming but I'm certain you're doing a fantastic job with your little man.
