Welcome to your lodge!! Looking forward to your intro and homebirth!!
Welcome to your lodge! Can't wait to hear your intro!
Welcome - it looks like the April '09 ladies are starting to take over this board!
Woohoo! I look forward to following your adventures in your lodge!
Awww what a nice thing to come home to! First of all I will apologize for taking so long with my intro, I just returned from a holiday with my sister and mum But more on that later.
Ok Intro! I'll apologize in advance if its long.....
Im 21 and DH is 33, and we are expecting our first baby (hopefully of at least 4!) and planning a home water birth.
A little about us: I met my DH - I'll call him G- through my older sister in Oct 06. He was a good friend of both her and her DH. After I finally had the courage to leave a bad relationship, my sister decided I needed to get out and have some fun...well at least thats what I thought the idea was! apparently after seeing me at my nephews birthday party, G asked her to set up a little meeting....I was being played:wink:
So after inviting me out with a "big group" I turned up at my sisters house to find it was more like a double date! my sis, bil, my now-dh and me. Of course there was an excuse why we should take two cars, so I ended up riding with G. It was the best night I'd had in a long time we were totally on the same page and didn't shut up the whole time haha.
The next day he asked me to go out for lunch. The funny thing was I didn't realise that we were on a date until about half way through!! I was clueless haha I never imagined he would be interested in me. I thought he just wanted someone to hang out with, and went along happily. It wasn't until he made a flippant comment about how he had told his sister he had a "date" that it clicked.... OMG I'M ON A DATE!!
Our lunch date turned into him dropping me off at that night at my parents house who I had moved back in with, where he walked straight in, introduced himself to my parents (turned out he already knew my Dad from working with him) and chatted away like he had known them for years. My mum was smitten haha. He introduced me to his family the next day
I was in love :biglove:From then things moved pretty quickly. He worked away (and still does) so what chance we did have together we just didn't want to miss. I moved in with him about 2 months after we started dating.
About 4 months after that we started thinking marriage, and decided to buy a house together. It was our dream house, we looked at it every time we visited my parents - it's 5 houses up from them - and when it went on the market we jumped at the chance. Around the time of the purchase we also found out we were expecting! It was a shock, I was not only on the pill but I'd had a long and complicated medical history and had been told to expect to need help concieving. But we were thrilled. Unfortunately I miscarried at around 7.5wks, shortly after being told there were actually 2 babies.
But a positive of such a heart-breaking experience was it showed us we really wanted a family now and decided not to wait the 2 years we originally planned. We started trying again 2 months after the first loss, and fell pregnant in the first month. I carried that pregnancy through to 12 weeks, when unfortunately it was discovered our second set of twins had passed from "twin to twin transfusion".
In amongst all the drama, G officially proposed!!! He is such a romantic and it was all so perfect. We didn't want a long engagement so I started planning and we were married a few months later, in February 2008. Here's a Wedding pic or two for ya's
After a 3 week honeymoon we settled back in to things and were still trying to fall pregnant again. 6 months later still nothing was happening, which was surprising seeing as I had fallen so quickly the first two times. I decided to see a fertility specialist, and after a little reluctance DH agreed. It was the best decision we ever made. The specialist was fantastic.
I have a long history of severe endometriosis. It was diagnosed at 14, and all up I had 4 surgeries to remove it by the time I was 18, but it was agressive and would return within a few months. In between those I had also had a 8x8cm dermoid (solid) cyst removed from my left ovary. I also had 2 d&c's from the miscarriages and the specialist discovered I already had another cyst (about 5cm this time) on the same ovary again. He performed surgery that very first week I saw him. It was quite extensive as my insides were apparently clogged with scar tissue from all the other surgeries. My organs were sticking together and I had a wall of scarring 3mm thick leading from my belly button to my uterus. My tubes were kinked and blocked, inside my uterus was full of scar tissue as well so any egg managing to get through was not sticking. I was a mess basically.
But just 4 days after surgery I fell pregnant!!!! Not exactly the "Bed Rest" the doctor was talking about:wink: but hey, it worked!!!
I had been on this board since my first pregnancy, and knew that after all the medical intervention I'd had to have, the birth of my child was the one thing that I didn't want to be medicalised. As great as the doctors were to me, I didnt want a hospital birth. DH completely agreed and we applied for the Home Birth program. I adore my midwife, and Im so looking forward to the experience.
This has been a dream pregnancy. Ive been so lucky, I didn't even have morning sickness this time, apart from a bit of back ache and swollen feet from flying last night, I feel fantastic and I cant wait to become a mummy!!! .....although I do have to wait atleast 2 more weeks until DH gets home from work so he doesn't miss it. So Im under strict instructions to cross my legs til then
DH is so excited and has been so great this whole time. I really couldn't ask for a better husband, and he is going to be a wonderful Daddy.
Our little family also consists of our darling little girl, Chicka. She is a 6yr old pure Rotti and so adorable and well behaved, she truly is our baby and will make a great big sister. Can't talk about the family without mentioning her! Here she is in her pool this summer just gone...
Ok thats enough about me for now!! You will all get eye strain if I keep going.
Im so excited to finally have a lodge, so I'll be updating often!!!
Anyone got tips to relieve swollen feet???????
I returned late last night from a 5 day holiday in the Eastern States with my mum, my sister and her 2 kids. I can tell ya, holidaying with a 5 and 2 yr old is not relaxing!! haha but it was fun. We took them to the theme parks, so ALOT of walking around.
The swelling started on the flight over there. Up until then I had absolutely none! Then with the flight (5 hours), walking around in the heat for 5 days, then the 5hr flight home, by the time I got home last night my feet and ankles were so swollen it was painful. It felt like the skin was going to just split right open, and my toes were so puffy I couldn't bend them.
They have gone down slightly with the rest over night, but every time I start walking around again they go back up. I know its all part of pregnancy but I don't want to be too scared to walk around for the next 4 weeks! I have so much to do!
Im not worried about it being anything serious as my hands and face aren't swollen - Im still wearing my wedding rings and they slide off easily - so I don't feel the need to call my midwife to tell her, unless I can't get them to go down in the next day or so. I have an appt next Tuesday with her anyway. Just hoping you ladies have some good tips on how to get some relief!!!
welcome to your lodge. You adn your DH make such a great looking couple
hi, great story
I have swollen feet and ankles too and the doctor said it was fine as long as it doesn't spread to my legs/face. They go down by morning.
Sitting OR standing for long periods makes it worse as it restricts circulation. Walking or laying down on your left side isn't as bad. If you are sitting, elevate your feet. For walking, make sure you have loose socks and shoes, constriction will make it worse. If you don't have loose socks, skip them! I never wear socks at home now either. You can always place your feet in a cold bucket of water too assuming heat is a factor.
Congrats on your lodge! You are a cute couple
I would always swell by the end of the day and what worked for me was putting my feet up and getting DH to give me a foot and leg massage. I miss those daily massages.
You two are so cute together, your DH looks much younger than his age What a neat story, how crazy to fall pregnant 4 days after endometriosis surgery! Hope the swelling goes down soon, I don't know enough to be helpful, but sending swelling be gone vibes your way :vibes:
Welcom to your lodge! Great intro! Your dh sounds wonderful
The best thing to do for swollen feet is to stay off them as much as possible and elevate them. Cold packs (so you can keep them elevated) or a cold bucket of water as the pps mentioned will help too. I had extremely swollen feet after delivery and the nurse that came by told me to stay off my feet for 2 weeks! Easier said than done, but it will help if you can do that.
I loved your story and your pics! Your wedding pics are gorgeous! I'm sorry for the losses of your 2 sets of twins. Good luck getting the swelling in your feet to go down.
Aww thanks Im a lucky girl. And believe me he acts younger than his age too haha he's a big kid when it comes to "boys toys". I think thats why he is secretly hoping for a boy - so that he will have someone to play with!
The really neat thing about the surgery was we actually have a picture of the egg that turned out to be our baby!!! The surgeon took photos while he was in there, and he took one of the follicle that was really big and swollen and he said that was the one that would have released a few days after the surgery...earliest "jelly bean" photo ever! ;). He said it was really lucky too because he accidently almost "burst" it during the surgery!! But he was a fantastic doctor, he was so careful in there I only bled for 1 day after the surgery.....making the nookie on the 4th day possible! I'll try to post the pic if anyone is interested (of the surgery, not the nookie! haha)
That is so amazing and cool to have such an early picture of your little bean!! What an awesome doctor!
WOW! what a great story! I had no idea about your medical history. how wonderful that you became pregnant right away and are able to plan a home birth. I am amazed that you followed your instincts and kept searching for the right doctor, what a blessing your little baby is. I agree that you and your DH sound perfect for each other. It is always great for a daddy to have a boy but daddy's girl is just as wonderful too!
I'm so excited to follow this with you! I'd love to see the picture of the egg if you get it on the competer! You and your DH are sooo cute, and I can't wait to see your baby:)
Nice story! I really like your pictures, and the pictures of your surgery!
As for relieving the swelling, I find that lying in the bath works well because it outs pressure on all sides, and you have your feet “up” at the same time. Just don’t make it too hot!
Unfortunately nothing to report. I missed my weekly check-up this week. My mw and I just got our wires crossed. I think we spent so much time chatting at my last visit that we weren't paying attention. So she had me in her appt book for this past Tuesday, but she had written it in MY book for this coming tuesday:rolleyes: I thought it was odd that she had written "36wk appt - 7/4 in clinic" when I will actually be 37w3d by then....but I'd just gotten in from the airport at 1am and went to bed so I was in no mood to chase it up.
Apart from that feeling pretty good. A bit crampy today with some BH so Im staying home and taking it easy.. still another week before DH gets home from work, so as much as I want to meet my baby, its "stay put" vibes til then! I also think Im coming down with something Ive been sneezing all morning and woke up with a really sore throat. So not impressed with that!
Feet are back to normal size thankfully! I no longer feel like I have Elephantitis!
Awe - sorry about the missed appointment. When do you go in for an appointment this week?
I had my 37w 3d appt with my midwife today. I had missed the 36 week appt so it was nice to catch up with her and hear how bub's doing. She couldn't stay as long as usual, as she had another mum in early labour she had to go to.
So all is well, as I knew BP 110/60, Good strong hb - its always been around 148 - and still head down although he/she has floated up a bit since the last visit which I could tell cos I no longer feel so much pressure down there, but having trouble breathing again. Last visit the baby was 3/5ths engaged, this week it's 1/5th. But Im in no rush to get bub out so Im not phased by the backwards progress. She doesn't do internals and I wouldn't allow it anyway, so no idea of "progress" in that manner.
She did (very kindly;) hehe) point out that the baby has a big head! haha gonna take after it's Daddy. Because the head had floated back up abit she could actually get her hands right around to cup it, and she said she was very impressed. At first she thought it was the shoulders, but nope! its the head!! She let me feel it too and it is a whopper! But don't worry it hasn't sent me into a panic, Ive always figured it doesnt matter if a head measures 30cm or 40...its still coming out of a 10cm cervix! your still gonna feel it either way haha. So Im not phased by the prediction, and she said she has no worries about my abilities to get it out.
We are playing the guessing game at the moment within the family as to how much the baby will weigh, and we have all said around mid 7lbs. The midwife's guess was between 7 1/2 and 8lbs if I go full term. So we are pretty much all guessing the same. Even though Im small, so some people expect me to have this tiny little thing, Im the same size as my mum and I was 8lbs 5oz, my sister was 8lbs 7oz and my brother was 7lbs 10oz - and mum had no problems with us at all! so I know not to let appearances fool me.
The baby is facing the back, with its spine right down the centre of my belly, with a leg on each side under a rib. Very comfy:rolleyes:
I had the GBS swab today, lucky me I only had to do the vaginal one cos she only had one swab on her!....although that does mean I have to do it again next visit.....damn haha.
Thats about it visit-wise! Just playing the waiting game now *twiddles my thumbs*
Oh In other news, DH is scheduled to fly home on Thursday!!!!! YAY!!!!! We are soooo ready for him to be home, Im so excited I could pee! (...or is that the baby on my bladder? hehe). 8 weeks apart - especially at a time like this - is just way too long!!
He is trying to fly home tomorrow (wed) instead cos there is no work up there for him to do, and I think Ive made him nervous because I told him that I had a dream last night that my water broke.....and its a full moon on Thursday night! haha Im positive nothing will happen, this baby is in for the long haul I think, but DH is still worried he has pushed his luck a little too far being away this long so he wants to get home asap. Plus we just both want him home, so if he can get them to change his flight, we figure whats one day?
We have the whole long Easter weekend to spend just us, working on the baby's room and spending some quality time together before his work kicks back in on Tuesday. He will continue working up until Im in labour, and then hopefully get atleast 2 weeks off.
Next wednesday we have a meeting with the celebrant who is conducting the baby naming ceremony - the same celebrant who married us - and Thursday we are getting some Pregnancy photos done! So a very busy and exciting few days coming up.
Glad your DH is coming home. It will be nice for you two to have some time together before your life changes so drastically. Enjoy!
You and your midwife have the right attitude about the baby's head size. Some OBs would be talking about the possibility of a c-section, I'm sure. Glad your appointment went well, and yay for your DH coming home!
Sounds like everything is moving along nicely. the tiniest girl I know had a 9lb 3oz baby back in feb with no tears. glad your DH is coming home soon, how exciting and it will be great to spend some quality time just the two before baby comes along!
Well DH is home!!!!!!!!!!! WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!
It's been sooo fantastic to have him home. He still gives me butterflies
The first day home we did the last little bits to get everything ready. There wasn't much to do, just getting the tap fittings to fill up the birth pool, bedding for the spare bedroom (incase the midwife needs me to lie down) and last but certainly not least....... putting the cot together!!!! We also put the curtains up, so the room is almost done!
The one thing we are waiting on is the big wooden changetable/drawers/wardbrobe combo piece that we bought with the cot, which wont arrive until about 5 days befoor the baby is due:eek:. I really want it in there, mainly just because I want to see the room all finished and cute, but the baby will be in the basinet to start with anyways, and I can change the baby on the bed for a few days if he/she comes early and its not set up yet, so Im trying not to let it bother me.
So here are some pics of the nursery so far!
The cot...which is being used to store everything else until the change table arrives.
And a 37w4d belly pic in the room...
Also, We went down the beach today with my family and some friends to take the Jetskis out (no, I didnt go on haha). Of course the last thing that I said to DH was "Be careful! If I go into labour this weekend and you can't help me cos your injured you will be sleeping at your Mums!!".....................................
Guess who limped back in after seriously hurting his ankle from coming off the jetski???? :rolleyes:Men!!!!! haha
This is me with Chicka at the beach
It was a great day! but now I am tired and sore and heading off for a rest
The room looks gorgeous!! I love the colors and the bug theme!
You're looking great mama!
I think I may have lost at least part of my mucous plug tonight, if not all of it. There was alot of it if it WAS only part:eek: But Ive never seen it before so I wouldn't know.
Ive also got a bad lower back ache and had some on-off mild period-like cramps while in bed so Ive just gotten up to get some water and see if its maybe the start of something or just that I had a full on day and did too much.
Yay for plug loss!
OOH Good Luck! sounds like it may be getting close for you. The nursery looks great and so do you!
No news, Just wanted to rave a bit about my fabulous DH
Since he has come home from working away he has been the perfect supporter, really getting involved in everything to do with the birth. Not just the "guy" jobs like putting the cot together etc, but asking lots of questions about how things are going to progress, what I will be feeling and what I might need of him when the time comes. He's read all the books I gave him to take away, including the Hypnobabies "Birth Partners Guide", and he's been suggesting every day that we practice the hypnosis together so he can learn my prompts and que words. He's really gotten into it!
And best of all, he has taken on board the one concern I had about this home birth - the amount of people that would be there - and dealt with it! My mum and sister, and his mum and sister will all be at the birth along with the two midwives, and I will admit that as much as I want the family there to share the joy of the birth, I was worried about how it would affect my concentration etc. and whether they fully understood what it was we were trying to achieve with the hypnosis.
Well without me even saying anything to him about it, he wrote a letter from himself to those attending explaining how things would work on the day, so as to avoid any confusion or hurt feelings. He explained about not using negative words around me as it can effect my hypnosis, that while some times I will be able to converse and walk around etc, other times I will need complete silence from them and even on occasion we may need them to leave and give us privacy, and not to be offended if we do so. That we fully trust our midwives and as they are there to see to the health of me and the baby, there directions are to be followed without argument. And he explained that because of the level of calm and concentration needed during my labour, we will not be calling them straight away but will let them know in plenty of time to get here to witness the birth. So now I won't feel like a watched pot having people sitting around waiting for something to happen!!
It is perfect, he said everything in there that I wanted to say but haven't because I was afraid of offending people. But he is taking his role of "hypno-guardian" very seriously
Im so confident about this birth. I really feel we are going to make a great team, he has always been my biggest supporter and even though it sucked having him miss out on so much of the pregnancy having to work away, he has certainly made up for it in preparing for his role and boosting my confidence!
He deserves some major brownie points:D
WTG DH!!! That all sounds wonderful!! Now if he can only talk to my dh about how important his role is...
What a great DH! How wonderful that he is so involved and taking initiative like that!
That is really great! Its so cute how men really dont seem to understand sometimes, but in the end they can surprise you. They start getting all excited! John is jumping the gun and trying to get us up in the area of the hospital and i still have 3 days till EDD and have to work! He thinks I will be able to relax more away from my home and bed but really he is just worried about the drive during labor. they can be so funny sometimes.
That's so sweet how prepared he is. You have a great catch;)
Wow! I'm so totally jealous of your DH's involvement. Mine thinks having the doula gives him free rein to slack in the support department I think.
The room is adorable. The bug theme is great. Using the crib for storage made me laugh because that's what I did as I would get all the clothes washed until DH brought the dresser upstairs.
Had my 38w 5d appt today. Nothing too exciting to report as we don't do cervical checks or anything, but these are the stats:
BP - 100/58 (back down again yay! it had started to creep up slightly at last two visits but I think it was the stress of not having DH home)
Heart Rate - good and strong and in the 150's.
Measuring on schedule - Baby is actually fully engaged, LOA, so perfect position for labour. And apparently this is as much breathing room as Im gonna get!! haha I kept waiting for the "dropping" that everyone talks about that gives you more breathing room, but baby is fully engaged and still the butt and legs are right up under my rib cage haha the joys of being short!!
Did the vaginal GBS swab last visit which came back Negative! Yay! But I had to do the rectal one this time because she only had one swab on her last visit. never a joy. She did say that I could skip it and just consider myself GBS- which was tempting but then I figured if I made the decision to be tested I may as well do it right!
I have a new back-up midwife, who just joined up with my midwives, and she lives literally just across the park! so a 5 min walk away which will be great, all the other midwives are at least a 30 min drive.
And I had my maternity photos done today and Im soooo excited to see them. I think they are going to be amazing, the woman was excellent. Got some clothed ones, and then some lovely intimate ones using an old cottage-like setting they have (the "studio" is 5 acres of bush and scenery) with me and DH topless in just jeans taken through a window with me covering my boobs and DH holding my belly. And a whole pile outside in the bush with me looking all "mother nature-ish" with just gauze material covering my boobs and a big flowing skirt, belly sticking out hehe. The photographer was having a great time with us! she wants to submit some of the photos for the annual awards. Cant wait to post them.
Thats about it for today! I have strict instructions from my sister to get started on some star-jumps today to get this baby out
Yeah for an excellent appt and the new midwife being so close!
The maternity photos sound gorgeous! I hope you can share some when they are ready.
The photos sound awesome! Hope we get to see some;) I've been meaning to get my sister to take a few pics with the boys and dh's hands on my belly, now I have major stretch marks, but I'd still like to do it. I'll have to ask her today i might be having a baby very soon!
How excited that the baby is engaged! That is great about the new midwife being so close. That's good that your vaginal sqab came back negative. I think my mw did vaginal only for mine. Your pictures sound lovely, I sounds like it as fun to take them and feel like a model!
glad to hear things are going well and great news about baby being engaged and great position! Hope to see your photos too, they sound awesome!
Positive birth vibes coming your way!! I saw your other post, and thought I'd use it as an excuse to bring your lodge back to the front page
Update us!! How are you doing? Feeling? What have you been doing to pass the time?
aww thanks! haha It's so hard cos I feel like I should be keeping you all up to date......but nothing is happening!!! Just boring waiting at the moment.
I did go shopping yesterday. I needed to get out of the house and away from the phones! I get 3-4 txt messages, phone calls or emails a day asking if the baby is here yet:rolleyes: I'm sure alot of you know what that does to your patience when your waiting on signs that something is happening!
So I shopped up a storm! Got some gorgeous stuff to make me feel great to put on after bub is out. Im determined that after the initial settling in, I really want to get up in the morning and get dressed and at least attempt my hair and makeup and not fall into the rutt of tracksuit pants and DH's tshirts ;). I really want to keep my self esteem up and feeling good!
Its heading into winter here so I got a lovely slimming red double-breasted button up jacket, some little wraps and cardigans, and two different types of sweater-dresses to wear over tights. One is zip up, and one actually buttons up over the left breast so will be perfect for feeding! I can just undo the top button and fold it down without having to expose myself. And its made of a soft mink-type material so bub will LOVE snuggling into it. I was so stoked to find it!
Other than that I have been playing domestic goddess. DH is loving that the house is sparkling every day when he gets home....but he knows it wont last so he's trying to enjoy it
ooh and doing a little craft work too! Ive made a little surprise for DH for when Bub is born. I bought a blank canvas and painted it the same colours as the baby's room, and painted big wodden letters white and stuck them to the top and bottom of it to read "Daddy and Me", left spaces down each side of the canvas to stick photos of the two of them, and wrote this and stuck it in the middle of the canvas:
Thats it from me for now! No signs of impending labour just yet
I'll update midwife appt details this arvo.
Just had my mw visit. As suspected nothing thrilling to report, as we don't do cervical checks so no idea if Im progressing.
I had a nice long contraction while she was trying to feel for the baby, so she had to stop and wait for it to pass cos she couldn't feel anything with it so tight. Bub was having a good ol' wriggle around so she got to hear great variability in the heartbeat. It sat around 149, then dropped down to the 120s, then up to the 160s then settled back around 149. So she was very happy with that. Baby is lying Direct OA, with a foot under each rib again:rolleyes: not comfy but perfect positioning and fully engaged (well as far as bub can get without contractions to move it down) and she said she definately feels a "decent sized baby!" haha
My BP was up a little. Its usually around 90/50 and it was 110/70, and I have some slight swelling but my urine showed no spilling of protein so she isn't concerned, and I think by almost 40 weeks Im entitled to a little fluid retention!
I'm Officially GBS Negative!
Now its back to waiting...... I have another appointment booked for next Wednesday, but I said I hope Im seeing her before then. Fingers still crossed for the weekend. I know its not very likely, with first baby's being notoriously "late" (although I know they aren't technically late with the average gestation actually being 41+) but Im hoping I follow in my mum and sisters footsteps as all their kids arrived on their exact due dates. Im hoping to make it a family tradition
Hopefully I'll have something more interesting to update you all on soon!
Sounds like a good appt. YAY for baby being in a good position! That will help a lot!
Your gift for dh is so sweet!
I'm glad you had a great appt. and Yeah for baby being in such a great position!
Aww, your present for your dh sounds so sweet! It made me teary...
