I think DH is hitting nesting – and that the weather is definitely helping him out!

I came home after work last night to find that he had cleaned up the living room, dining room, vacuumed the basement, and was in the process of raking the last of the snow off the grass in the backyard… He then got out the blower and blew the leaved away, shovelled some snow onto the deck (which was 18C so it melted really fast). Then he told me his plans for the new and improved doghouse, he completely cleaned up our bedroom (he usually leaves me to deal with my own laundry which I am thankful for!), cleaned off my dresser (where I tend to just drop everything), cleaned all the dishes, vacuumed and mopped the kitchen floor… and probably 10 other things… Oh yeah, he found the list of supplies we need to put aside for the homebirth (amongst 100 other things on my dresser)!

And he’s all excited about doing a whole bunch of things – finding out about Boy Scouts for DSS, organising summer plans, going camping, building a kid’s playground and stage at the North Country Fair (from donations from Reed’s passing – we have about $5000!).

Anyway, he was just making me feel exhausted watching him! So I got in the hot tub and watched from there – and he came and joined me for a little while too!

If the weather is like yesterday on baby day, then I can have my outdoor hot tub birth! Our sunroom was at 24C yesterday – and it only got down to 5C last night so I hope that we are close to sunroom planting time! How exciting! And I hope it’s only going to get warmer (despite most of the snow being gone in the backyard, we still have 2’ on the front!).

Oh, and my pasque flower is starting to come up! I noticed it had two little sprouts (with 3” of ice on each side) on Sunday, then yesterday all the ice was gone and there were about 10 more! I wonder what surprises it will hold for today? DH was pretty excited about seeing a touch of greenery as well – it’s been a very long winter and a late spring.

Oh… I almost forgot. I have a doctor’s appointment this afternoon. I wanted to get it because my doc made me so much more relaxed about everything after Reed died, and I figured that I could probably use that about now… I love my doctor!

    I’m guilty of not cooperating…

DH has spent the last 3 days cleaning… And somehow I am messing things up…

The other night he was so upset at things in general (mostly his XW), that he never went to bed, and at 3am decided that instead of steaming about it, he would clean up the mess that was bugging him. And he did an immaculate job on the kitchen. At 4am, I got up at 4am (hadn’t been able to sleep either), and helped a bit, and then I sat on the couch and tried to read a natural birthing magazine (Birth Issues). It only served to get me more frustrated since all the articles were talking about how stress in your daily life can affect baby’s development, and how cortisol (stress hormone) easily passes through the placenta to baby and can seriously affect organ and brain development. Geeze… so much for trying to make me more relaxed – instead it made me start crying!

And then DH wouldn’t go to bed because I was up (now it was 5:30am), and then he was upset because he thought I was that upset about his XW acting like a dink (like that’s news – but he was hyped enough that he said he was ready to go over to her house and teach her a lesson). And then he was saying how having a messy house was really upsetting him (well, I can understand that but I knew that he is just as much of a culprit as I am and that his XW was really triggering it), and we were both having a rough couple of weeks thinking about Reed, and just not feeling at all prepared to deal with Baby2…

Anyway, I think we both went to bed at about 6:30am and decided that we were turning the alarm clock off. I woke up at about 8:30am and made some breakfast, and woke up DH at around 10ish… at which point we both called in to work sick (we still were feeling quite emotional and wouldn’t have been very effective at work).

I then worked on putting together the box of homebirth supplies (from the list DH had found) while he watched Lost. Of course, I piled it all on the table in the kitchen. One of the things I needed was “clothes to dress baby in” – which were all in the garage – so I went and got a couple bags/boxes of baby clothes and where did I sort with them? On the table and all over the kitchen floor and counters. Of course, there was some stuff in Reed’s room (to be Baby2’s room) so I went in there and proceeded to move everything around – the highchair in the hallway, boxes of Reed’s clothes on the floor, blankets, fabric to make slings, diapers, baby clothes that my mom made and bought, some baby clothes we bought in Peru last fall, not to mention the shoes Reed had been wearing when he fell in the pond… Somehow some of DSS’s clothes and stuff had ended up piled in there too – so now there are various piles in Baby2’s room as well as stuff strewn all over the upper hallway, kitchen table and floor.

And that’s how I left it while DH and I went to get the rest of the birthing supplies… none of which I needed last time but hey, this time we need to be prepared, right?

At least I made a nice roast for dinner last night (in the crock pot).

And how come when we went to Voldemart (that evil store also known as Walmart) with 6 items on the list that should have come out to $40, we managed to spend $250 on groceries? It just baffles me! And we still forgot to get eggs! I think we’re going to get DSS’s new glasses there, though, because we saw the best kid’s frames so far (very flexible, slightly bigger lenses than before (he’s always wearing them halfway down his nose, but not too big), and they had a really good price compared to the 5 other places we’ve looked.

    OK, now I’m rambling.

We ended up having a pretty good and relaxing day – I had a couple naps, got some stuff done (despite leaving it a mess), and am generally feeling a bit better about at least having stuff ready for baby’s arrival…

We even took Indy on a good walk in the melting snow, and we all felt good about that!

On another note, I have been informed by DH that if baby is born on Easter, and is a boy, that he will be named Aslan – Reed’s middle name – an for those of you who know the Chronicles of Narnia, the Lion who C. S. Lewis portrayed as Jesus – and who was resurrected…

Hmm… If he feels that strongly about it I don’t know that I’ll fight it, but really, won’t the kid have enough to deal with knowing that he has an older brother that he never met, and now to be named after him?

    I’ll definitely think about it…
