~~~ November Mommies & Little Pumpkin Birth Stories ~~~
I thought I'd start a thread of birth stories. Please still post them below. I'll move them up to here so we don't lose them!
mommy2four's Birth Story
Just wanted to let everyone know that Cheyanne Nikole has arrived. We were scheduled to go in on the 23rd for a version and a possible c-section. On Tues around 4:45 pm I started feeling what I thought was contractions as I hadn't felt them with my other births. At 5:20 when DH got home I called labor and delivery to ask if I could just come in and be checked as we knew the baby was breech, was told yes but I would probably be going home in 20 min or so. So I head off leaving Dh at home with our 3 boys. Get to hospital am monitored for 20 min had 2 major contractions, was checked and was 2 cm and 80% effaced. Well then I was told that I was to be monitored for 1 1/2 hours and checked again by the Physician coming on because since I was only 36.6 weeks they wouldn't do a section unless my body proved that I was indeed in labor. Well at 8:00 the physician comes in and checks me and I am 4 cm and fully effaced. I was told to call DH so he could take the kids to the sitter and get to the hospital. I called him at 8:15. By 8:30 I had my epidural and was headed to the OR. Dh was there with me. Cheyann Nikole made her entrance at 9:49 by c-section, weighing 6lbs6.5ozs and 18 inches long On Tues. Oct 14. We are both doing great. I am having almost no pain at my c-section incision. Have only had to take tylenol so far. I wish everyone else luck and will post updates when I have time. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL THE WELL WISHES.
First, my apologies for being missing in action for so long...the last few months of my pregnancy were extremely crazy with computer problems to go along with it all. I lurked in every now and then, but I started my own company in order to have things going once the baby got here to be able to work from home! I am glad that it seems like everybody is doing well and not much longer until all of you get to meet their little ones~!
Anyhow- wanted to let you know that my baby girl arrived on Friday, October 24th at 10:47am via c-section! Vanessa Renee is a beautful healthy baby and weighed in 8lbs 4oz at 37 weeks + 2 days!~
We found out at 36 weeks that she was frank breech and was already around 7 1/2 lbs... So, we tried an external version (ouch!~) on the 23rd and our stubborn little girl didn't want to be pushed around. We then scheduled a section for the 6th of november. All was still well with the baby and me so they sent us home. That night I woke up to pee and my water broke! So- off to the hospital we went!
She is the most beautiful baby I have ever seen (of course, don't all moms say the same thing?)! Once I get my dh to upload the pictures onto the computer, I will post them for you. You won't believe the amount of hair she has on her head- it is thick and around 2 inches long! She is amazing and all of the aches and pains are totally worth it to hold your baby in your arms.
Best of luck all of you and I will try to post more now that I am not working for a bit.
best of luck to all you mommies to be as well and the daddy's
I'm sorry I have been MIA and kept you all hanging in the air with "To Be Continued...."
Here's the story (Celeste, I ought to post this on the birth story thread, but I couldn't resist getting the little attention with the title! )
Monday, Oct. 27
6AM Contraction starts.
I woke up 4 times the night before with pretty strong BH, but this time, it seems to come rather regularly.
Contractions continue, but irregular and rather weak.
We decide to go to the clinic for appointment visit (then the doc can tell me for sure what to do).
Doc said she wasn't going to do internal (fear of misguiding me--- she said dialation can tell very little about going into labor, etc.) but for me to go to the hospital right away.
I make her examine me internally. 1 - 2 cm, 90% effaced.
We head for hospital.
I keep feeling that contraction pain feels very different from past pregnancies---- this time it's very sharp but only right on the cervix area with.
Check-in at the hospital. A nurse says I'm 2 - 3 cm, 80%.
I had planned to do VBAC, but I am already exhausted (I was up until 1 AM the night before with a sick child.). Something in me tells I cannot go through VBAC.
I'm still 3 cm. (Something is really different -- in the past, I'd have delivered by now!) I ask to have C-section done.
The nurse tells me (Doc is not in yet) I had to prove I was in true labor to have emergency C-section. So I just wait ---- contractions continue. Getting harder to bear! I ask for Epidural. But without the doctor there yet, the nurse says I have to wait.......
The contractions are strong and regular, but still I'm 4 cm. (Since this is my 7th baby--- it seems to be taking way too long to dialate!)
I'm serious now! I'm demanding Epidural and C-section!! The nurse says doc will do C-section at 5PM. That's 2 WHOLE HOURS AWAY!!! (I think they want me to go through with VBAC....)
My body is screaming at me that I cannot push this baby out!!! (Red flag! Alert!! Beep beep!! Listen to your body!!!)
I TELL the nurse to call the doctor again and to TELL him I NEED C-section, NOW!
I'm 7cm. The nurse tries to encourage me to go through with VBAC. SHe thinks it'll be quick once I'm fully dialated.
As she is examining me, the water breaks!
Epidural is put in. The contraction pain is managed, but my body is shaking with pain. My mind seems have shut down --- I have no desire to talk or feel. I am in surviving mode, just breathing, and my heart is pumping. (Oh, I hope I don't scare you the first time mommies. This is a VERY different birth story than normal labor would be---- don't think yours would be like this!!)
The doc arrives. He gives a "GO" with C-section!!! (I have been waiting for this!!!!!!) I get prepped up. To the O.R. I go!
I'm a bit anxious, and wish someone is holding my hand I am getting all numbed with increased Epi..........
Someone pops in, sits right next to me with all jolly air about him/her. I can't tell who it is--- all dressed like a docotr...... It's my DH!!!! Yiippeeee!!! He holds my hand and talks to me and the doctor while the surgery is going on....
The doctor says, "OH, we made the right decision! The uterus is So thin.... As thin as a paper!!! I's so thin, it's tranparent........"
The baby is born!!!! I hear the baby's cry on the other side of the curtain. DH leaves the room with the baby, to show him to all the other kids who are waiting in the room next door!
As the doctor sews me up, he's talking to the other nurses about my Dh. He says how glad he was to be there just to hear my Dh talk, what an ideal husband he is, being so "up-lifing." I'm feeling all proud and honored to be his wife! :P
The doctor said again and again, because the baby was positioned high in the abdomen, the uterus was so thin, etc, that if I had pushed even ONCE, the uterus would have raptured, and the baby would have died.
I learned that I HAVE TO listen to my body, more than what the doctor or the nurses tell me --- often, I DO know more than they do!
I'm so thankful God provided a way for me to KNOW that I couldn't do VBAC. Although the risk of uterus rapturing is low (1 - 2%), the statistics means nothing to me!!
For me, it was the matter of choosing LIFE or DEATH for my son, not choosing the "method of birth."
Although I had a notion it was more noble to do VBAC, better to do natural birth, etc, and it took my pride off to have to ask/beg/demand for C-section, I am so glad God worked it out that way.
Here's our Mikael Euel Koken ---- he's named after "Michael" the archangel from the Bible, Dh's grandfather, and Ko-Ken, two words meaning "Light" and "Sword" which signifies Jesus, and His Word.
He's 5 days old today, and his face has changed quite a bit already!
He has a bit of Jaundice (sp?), and the nurse told me I had to stop breast feeding him for 2 days, pt him on the bottle, but I totally refused to do so.
I believe in Mother's intuition a LOT more than I used to now----
The breast milk didn't come in until the late 2nd day, but I didn't bend on bottle feeding. (Similac propaganda!?)
The nuse saw me breast feeding even after she told me to stop, and she yelled, "You aren't supposed to do THAT!"
I just kept on breast feeding!!
By 3rd day, I was engorged, more milk than the baby can drink!
He's nursing every 3 hours, we are sleeping in the same bed (my secret to well-sleeping baby) and am not using pacifier (he gets confused with breast, and won't breastfeed well if we use pacifier on him. I had to ask the hospital nursery to stop giving him the pacifier,(to have more successful breastfeeding) but everytime he fussed, to please bring him to me---)
I cannot tell you how great everything turned out, and how WONDERFUL the motherhood is!!!
It's ALL worth it!!!!!!!!!!!
Ladies, believe in your Mother's intuition!(which is different from a girl's, inmature youth's, or world's. It's inside your motherhood!) Don't let the doctors and nurses talk you into doing things you don't feel that's right.
....ok, I am exhausted writing this now.... I need to rest. My feet and hands are swelling up from sitting down......
I'm sorry I'll be in and out, not posting much for a while until I recover.
I sure will be thinking and PRAYING for All and each one of you.
I'll be looking forward to hearing/reading you all's birth stories.
May the Lord bless you all!!!!!!! (((((((((HUGS))))))))))
p.s. Sorry about the typos and wrong grammer, etc. I didn't have time to re-read and edit my English.
This is the DH chiming in. Elle gave birth yesterday afternoon to a beautiful baby GIRL! Both are healthy and happy.
Madilyn June was 7lbs 4oz and 20 inches long born at 4:13 pm pacific time.
We'll try and post a picture when we can.
I want to personally thank you all for your support. Elle talked alot about you guys. I think it was great for her to have others going through a pregnancy to relate to. Especialy since this was our first.
Braeden Scott was born on Nov. 5th at 6:57 a.m.
9 lbs. 12 oz. 21 inches long (16 hours unmedicated birth!!!)
All went well with the delivery. Will write labor story later. Braeden is currently in the NICU for breathing problems. He was unable to keep his blood oxygen levels up starting about 1 1/2 hours after birth. He went to NICU, still don't really know what the problem is. One lobe of his left lung never inflated. The current theory is he took a breath before his head was delivered. He had a tummy full of blood, they think he swallowed during the delivery, and they think he aspirated into his lungs. The first day he remained on 100% O2 with a c-pap (forced air). He is still on the c-pap, but down to 40% O2. He will be there until at least next Wed. I feel blessed that he really is healthy and he will make a full recovery. The next few days will be difficult because he is not here with me. I have been pumping, and now my milk is coming in, so he will begin receiving that today, that should make him feel better too.
I will keep you wonderful ladies updated, and will write more later!
Congrats to any new moms and easy labor vibes to everyone else!
gamommy/Jennifer Braeden's Birth Story
Ok, I will try not to make this a novel!
Things start with three nights of contractions all night that keep me awake, but never intensify or grow any closer. On Tuesday I noticed the contractions all day, about once an hour, but more intense, in the middle of a nesting streak. Rob came home early to hang out, but ended up taking Andrew to soccer practice since nothing seemed to be happening. Called him at the end of practice to tell him to come home soon because they were more intense and I had two within an hour (I know doesn't seem like much, but to me it was definately a sign to me!) He came home with dinner, which I ate (thankfully). Spent the next four hours in and out of the tub working with contractions and a constant lower abdominal pain that really didn't subside.
At 11:00 pm we went to the hospital to be told we were 90% and 5 cm. I was disappointed but stayed because of the strenght of the contractions, I felt this was it. After check in we worked on contractions in our room, but I was only comfortable (a relative term here) lying down. I asked to get in the tub at about 3:00 am after a failed walking attempt and was granted permission (whatever!). After half an hour in the tub the contractions went from 8 min. apart to 2-3 min. apart. They asked me to get out because it was time for routine monitoring, so I did (God bless that tub!). When I got up my water broke, so that was it for the tub. Went back to the room and got in the shower, too hard to stand, so back in bed. By now I was only getting 50 secs between contractions that were lasting close to two minutes - OY.
About 6:00 am I was getting slight pushing urges at the very peak of contractions. Was checked, only 8 cm., but had forewaters that had reformed. The midwife broke it for me and immediately needed to push. Rechecked, fully dilated. The contractions spaced out here so things slowed down a little bit. After 5 pushes, and some very unlady-like screaming, Braeden was born at 6:57 am. His Apgars were 8 and 9.
He stayed on me for about 20 min. then Rob took him for his monitoring. He came back, nursed and seemed to be resting comfortably. I was hit with a bout of vomiting and the nurse came in to help. She took Braeden to give him a bath. When she unwrapped him from his swaddling she immediately began to administer O2 and called for everybody under the sun. This whole time was a little confusing to me, but they took him over to NICU. You guys know the rest of the story!
All in all the labor went as I would have wanted it (except for the lenght of it!) I am glad I was able to stay with natural child birth, but there were definately times I wasn't sure I could continue, but my hubby is a saint and was there for me! God bless him!
Hope this wasn't too long! Thanks for reading.
