Did I mention I was thrilled to finally be here? I remember Ayelet she felt ready to go inside a proverbial real-life birth lodge. I couldn't agree more!

Hello, I'm Jasmine -Warren and I are eagerly anticipating our first on approximately the 1st of November. We know that he is a boy, and we're planning on naming him Laszlo.

Warren and I met at work. I took a “temporary” job for a huge corporation right after graduating college. The corporate trainer planted ideas in my head that he was interested in me (he swears it wasn't true), so I asked him out. For our classy first date, we ate nachos at a dive bar after work and the rest is history.

Warren is a former massage therapist currently working in IT, and I became a full time freelancer in early July. We like to sail and do orienteering for fun. Shortly before becoming pregnant, I began what was to be a long journey of weight loss through a combination of the paleo diet (grain and dairy-free) and barefoot running. Then we joyously, unexpected received our BFP on 25th February. Grain-free diets were effectively set aside for later, though I've had a gluten-free and 99% sugar-free pregnancy.

Choosing to birth naturally was not a hard decision for me. My Mother had unmedicated births and cloth-diapered babies way back when home birth was shocking and cloth diapers were flats. Immediately after receiving my BFP, I googled “Portland midwives.” I knew without question that as long as I was healthy, I wanted an out of hospital birth. We hired a team of three wise midwives (one of whom is an Apprentice) and we'll be birthing at a luxurious free-standing birth center about a mile from our tiny apartment.

I've had a remarkably easy pregnancy with no complications thus far. I spent the first eight months of my pregnancy telling myself and others that baby was expected on November 10th, just to convince myself that he could likely be late. There have been some signs he could come before that, and I'm becoming a little anxious. He dropped and locked into LOA about 3 weeks ago. As of my 36 week visit last week, I was dilated to about a 1.5. Since then, I've lost a great big chunk of mucous plug. I trust him and my body to communicate about their readiness, but I'm going to say that I'd rather him be here sooner than later!

I had my 37 week visit today! It was for the most part another boring visit. To be perfectly frank, I'm feeling incredibly grumpy and that I'll be pregnant forever today.

My blood pressure and weight are steady. Baby's still growing lots, but he's wiggled out of a Left Occupit Anterior position (where he was for a month) into Left Occupit Transverse. Should I be concerned about that at all?

I finally decided that I am going to treat my positive culture for Group Beta Strep with an IV there at the birth center. Midwife says she has found that Mothers often don't seem to find it too restrictive of movement. I was given informed consent forms detailing accepting/declining PKU testing, the vitamin K shot and eye ointment that I get to work on over the next week Biggrin

No pelvic exam, so I don't know if there were any changes in cervical dilation over the last week. I've got a weird skin condition (resembles tiny blood blisters) that I need to have looked at by an MD before I can have an out of hospital birth.

Thank you! You should add yourself to the EDD/New arrivals list - you'll be ready for a lodge in just a few days!

This is kind of random, but regarding the rash I need to have checked out ASAP -- anyone know of a good, natural birth friendly OB/GYN in Portland? LOL.

Thank you, Kristen!

I just posted a whole, long update on my November board, but here is what ended up happening last night!

I waited until yesterday evening to call the advice nurse at my insurance company for a recommendation on where to go to get the rash looked at. I was thinking she'd recommend a dermotologist. Nope, she was hugely alarmist. She instructed me make an emergency trip to L&D immediately and not eat anything in the meantime. WTF. I obeyed because she seemed really serious.

Turns out the skin rash is no big deal and not even related to the pregnancy, allergies or anything else. Angiokeratoma, for the curious. I mentioned to the nurse that I was experiencing some anxiety since there was a recent (accidental) death of my friend's baby nice, and she offered to have a tech do a quick growth scan of the baby. I said HECK YES because I haven't had an ultrasound since 18 weeks.

Baby looks really healthy and he's still a boy! He is measuring approximately a week ahead, with a current estimated weight of a little over 7.5 lbs. It wasn't a 3D machine, but we got a good look at his little face. He seems to have inherited my nose and his Jamaican Grandma's pouty lips Smile

I've decided to tell myself the baby will be here on November 10th - not a second earlier than 41 weeks, 2 days. It seems to be helping me cope with the anticipation a little.

I've had a really lovely weekend with SO. We walked for hours today around downtown Portland and the Saturday market. The weather was perfect for being very pregnant. Clear but not warm.

ETA: Had some bleeding after DTD yesterday. I immediately called midwife, who determined it was likely either a cervical polyp, caused by DTD or some cervical progress. Fingers crossed for the latter!

Anyone have any tips for staying mentally busy these last weeks of pregnancy?

glad you were able to get out and walk around. if this fog doesn't keep us all bogged in, 'they' say we are supposed to have some nice days coming up. Do you have a project that you can start now and keep yourself occupied? do you have time to work on freezer meals or thing that will keep life quieter after baby comes? hope these last few weeks are relaxing for you Smile

My suggestions would just be to spend as much time with your SO as you possibly can. Try and cram in any last minute movies you might have been wanting to catch, going out to dinner... anything and everything. I think that's my only regret about having kids, is that I never appreciated "alone time" until it was gone forever lol!

Things are going well! I've been blessed with loads of bodywork lately, and I'm THISCLOSE to being finished with the last paid work I need to accomplish before baby comes. I'm still attending acupuncture twice a week at a group clinic nearby, and a friend and I got to go be pregnant "models" at a massage class and be rubbed for free on Monday night!

I had a wonderful 38 week visit this morning. The midwives met me in the room where I'll likely have the baby. Warren and I got to practice various laboring positions, including climbing in the tub! My health is good - blood pressure is still nice & low. Cervical check revealed I'm now dilated to a good, solid 2 Yahoo Midwife said I'm about 75% effaced, but baby wasn't too low at that particular moment. More rocking on my hands & knees and bouncing on my yoga ball!

I'm feeling pretty good mentally at this point - my patience comes and goes, but I'm almost certain I have less than a month to wait!

39 weeks tomorrow! I'm still status quo, having regular braxton hicks but no other signs of impending labor.

I had a much needed conversation with my Mom yesterday about her role and presence at my birth. She was remarkably receptive, thank goodness. In the end, she'll be at the birth center but not right in the room. I'm about 1/2 done with freezer meals. W and I had a "real date" on Saturday night - we saw a movie and went to a bar(!) where I had three glasses of water, woohoo!

Everything is squared away - now, all I need is a baby!

I'm definitely ready. Stuff-wise, I've been completely ready for almost a month. Mentally...I think as much as I can ever be!

The little guy has been really quiet for a few weeks, and COMPLETELY quiet today. Midwives checked his heartbeat tonight - he's still beating strong and in the 130s. What a relief! I'm going to get a biophysical profile done tomorrow, just to double check on his well being. It will be nice to get another peek at him.

Biophysical profile went well - he passed. He's got some chubby cheeks! LO is still pretty quiet - a last growth spurt or getting close to labor?

Keep your fingers crossed that I go into labor soon. I'm READY!

I'm so excited for you! Seems like the November babies are coming left and right. Are you going to do anything extra to encourage labor (sex, walking, anything...)?

goodness yes. I'm exercising daily (either a long walk or water aerobics), twice-weekly acupuncture for induction and bouncing on my ball lots. DTD, red raspberry leaf tea and evening primrose oil. Anyone else have any ideas?

Well, if you want to work with Murphy's law.... make some plans! Like, buy some expensive theater tickets (worst case you get to go to the theater once more before you have a baby!), or invite friends for dinner.... that is what happened with me- I had my two best friends in from out of town with both their husbands and toddlers... they all arrived Friday night (and were supposed to stay til Sunday), we had a lovely night, we all joked about moving around cars just in case that night before we went to bed- had a good laugh- and then there I was at 5am, asking them to move their cars cause we had to go to the hospital! Ha! Worth a try! Smile Also, that all happened before my DD's due date!

I LOVE that idea, Mara! I think it was babble.com had a feature on things you should absolutely do pre-baby... one of their ideas was go to the theater as much as possible. Portland opera is currently running The Marriage of Figaro, which was the first opera I ever saw (my 10th birthday present). We're getting tickets - "worst" case scenario is that one of my facebook friends gets tickets and I get a BABY!

I had my 39+ 2 visit this morning. Baby and I are growing like champs, as evidenced by the remarkable 3 pounds I gained this week (total of 25). My blood pressure is still 110/70 Biggrin

Midwives more or less confirmed my suspicion that I've still got a ways to go, most likely. One of them predicted I'll be back in a week for my 40 + 2, but not for my 41 + 2. I can live with that.

I've long suspected that his due date based on my O day may have been the 4th of November, not the 1st. My guess for his birthday all along has been November 10th (full moon)! As long as I keep telling myself "the average length of a first singleton pregnancy is 41 weeks", I'll definitely make it.

I have a little countdown app on my computer desk top - I just reset it from November 1st to the 10th. I'm going to go make three pans of chicken enchiladas, two for my freezer. One of my IRL friends had a sweet little boy 2 weeks ago, so I'm going to go meet him with the 3rd pan this afternoon.

I can do this!

No, she actually hasn't, really. According to the growth scan we had a few weeks back, he'd be in the 8 1/2 lb range at this point. I'm actually really not worried about his size - I'm a big, tall girl, but I was a small baby.

Well, today is my estimated due date.

Emotionally? I'm okay, just a little grumpy and a little weepy. I'd tossed around the idea of getting a pedicure or a massage today, but I think I'm actually happiest if I don't fixate on the calendar date too much.

Physically? I'm really fortunate. I hardly have any aches. No new, interesting signs of labor.

I've been really active lately trying to get the baby out (I've walked 3.5 miles each of the last three days). I'm bouncing a lot on my yoga, doing the evening primrose oil and a herbal induction tea - he just isn't ready.

Please come soon, baby?

SO started his paternity leave on Wednesday! Biggrin It has been pretty nice - today, we slept in and are talking about going on a gentle hike just east of town in a little bit.

I'm definitely still pregnant, and these last three days have been really, really tough. I had a huge crying breakdown at my 40 + 2 appointment yesterday. Baby had been engaged earlier but he dis-engaged around 38 weeks and HASN'T RE-DROPPED. I'm really tall, but he is so high I can actually feel one of my left ribs separating. So frustrating. I was born at 40 + 4, but I just don't see myself going into labor in the next week.

I don't feel like my daily LONG walks or acupuncture are making a difference at all. And I'm constantly fielding texts from friends that say things like "maybe you should eat something spicy." Like I haven't tried that almost every day for two weeks and I'm trying to keep the baby in - thanks.

I didn't realize that this post was going to be so incredibly whiny - but writing it was very cathartic and I feel a million times better! Thanks for letting me vent and reading if you made it this far!

Hurray! My busy, lovely midwife gave me a call randomly within 30 minutes of me finishing typing that post. She's a little concerned about my pelvic inlet - I had a nasty tailbone break at about age 10 or 12, so she recommended going to see a chiropractor later today. I actually found someone who'd take me on short notice. Hurray that she read my mind and hopefully this will work!

My midwife had ordered a biophysical profile ultrasound today. LO didn't quite pass - his heartbeat, fluid and practice breathing were stellar, but he refused to move for the camera. Sigh.

Midwives are sending us to the hospital tonight for some monitoring. There is a possibility I could be induced. I'll be sure to text my November '11 birth buddy if anything happens!

I feel like I really don't have the support from SO to possibly proceed with an induction tonight. But...Baby still hasn't moved down. I've frankly got a lot of concern about his
position affecting my lack of labor and I'm not sure he's still inside because he needs to be, kwim?

Fingers crossed that I miraculously go into labor on my own while hooked up to a monitor!
