Aww. Thanks ladies! I'm glad to have another lodge!

I will do a little review on me tomorrow when I have a little more time. lol. Time... ha ha ha. We just started a remodel on on our bathroom today, can't figure out what I was thinking, and it's turning out to be a slightly larger task to tackle then we first thought. My dad is coming tomorrow to hopefully get it mostly back together though so it shouldn't be torn apart any longer then this weekend. But yeah. I'll do my other get to know you posts tomorrow and as I can. I might just do a little copy and pasting for most of it.

I'm Krista, DH is Shem, we met for the first time in October of 2006 and started dating on March 14th, 2007 by March 31st, 2007 we were engaged. Yes that was dating for 2 1/2 weeks. Well we got married on August 18th, 2007 and started trying for our first one immediately after getting married. On November 5th of 2007 we got our first BFP, due July 11th, 2008. DH was sure it was going to be a girl but February 21st, 2007 we found out that we were going to be having a little boy join our family. Pregnancy was great! Hardly any morning sickness, a few aches and pains but other than that it was great. Until at 37 weeks i started having pre-labor. Well not a big deal so i thought but once that started sleep was shot almost every night because that's when the contractions liked to pick up. Well I ended up being induced at 41 weeks. I caved for an induction because i wanted to see my little boy so bad. It started out great 6 hours of pit induced contractions all handled on my own. Then, what i believe which no one told me about, transition started. I couldn't take the hip pain from being stuck on my right side through most of the labor any more. So i got the Epi. I was 4cm dilated, i think 5 by the time i got the epi though. That's when things went south. They had turned the pit clear up to 18 and the highest they go is 20, so when i got the epi it sent my body into 90 second contractions with only 30 seconds rest between them. Shawn went into distress. His heart rate dropped and the room went crazy. The pit was stopped, thank goodness, and my doctor came in to asses the situation. She wanted to observe me and baby for an hour to see if things would straighten up on there own and start the pit back up at a low dose if it did, if not c-section was next. One hour later they started the pit back up. I labored for the rest of my labor on a low pit drip and only half of my body numb from the stupid epi. My right side never went fully numb. When the time came to push the nurse didn't believe that i was ready because women who have any epi can't feel that, even though she knew it was only half working for me, and while i was sitting at a 9 basically 10, i had a small lip, she took her own sweet time getting things ready for the delivery telling me not to push yet, the whole time while i'm SCREAMING "I need to push!!!!" Then she finally had me try a push. Had me stop after a very short push and quickly got the doctor. When i finally started pushing with every push Shawn's heart rate dropped. He had the cord wrapped around his neck. So after 3 pushes on my own my Dr used the Kiwi pump to finish pulling him out due to his heart dropping into the 90's and not coming back up. I pushed for about 20 minutes, ended up with a third degree tear, and a beautiful baby boy that i didn't get to see for over an hour after i had him for NO reason at all, other than the nurses fell head over heals for him and didn't seem to want to bring him back. His blood sugar was low so they feed him a bottle, knowing full well that i wanted to breast feed, and that was his first taste and association with eating. He would never really latch on after that and even when he did he wouldn't stay on because it was too much work to get the milk. So after 6 weeks of trying to get him to nurse i gave up. My milk never came in due to him not latching on and the stress of not being able to nurse. I was heart broken. That was one special thing i was looking forward too. It didn't happen.

    DS2's birth story.

Friday the 19th I had my nearly 39 week appointment and decided to have my dr strip my membranes, I was a tight 3cm dilated, she didn’t say how effaced I was. Went home and a few hours later started noticing some bloody show. Didn’t think much of it at first sense I had just had my membranes swept and I knew that it can cause a bit of spotting. Later that night I lost a fair amount of my mucus plug but once again just shrugged it off because with my first I lost my mucus plug and still went another 3 weeks. Contractions never really changed. Saturday rolls around and my contractions seem a little bit stronger but nothing that bothered. They were still very irregular too. But my bloody show was still there. All day long I had bloody show until about 6 in the evening then it just stopped. Sunday rolls around. Contractions are about the same but have started coming more frequently but still nothing regular. Bloody show was still present but once again at about 6 in the evening stopped. So onto Monday we go. By this time I had just given up on anything happening until my due date so I was at peace with being preggo for another week. But I woke up with more bloody show. By this time I was starting to get worried because it wasn’t just a little spotting here and there throughout the day it was a fair amount every time I would have it and it’s going on day 3 of this. So I called my dr and she told us to go into L&D and check on the baby to make sure everything is going okay. Into L&D we go. I get hooked up to the monitors and the monitor the baby for about an hour. Baby does great and the whole time I’m there I have 1 contraction. All day Monday my contractions were very few where as the day before I had between 3 and 6 an hour. So now I’m really thinking I’m going to my due date. That night DH gave me and amazing back and shoulder rub and we did a hypnobirthing session to get me nice and relaxed. That evening I also decided to keep repeating, in my mind to try to tap into the subconscious mind, “It’s time to release the baby, time to open up and let the baby come into the world.” Didn’t know if it would work but I had heard tapping into your subconscious mind can move things along if they are ready. Well fell asleep around 9:30 and was completely out when I was woken up at 11:30 with contractions. My first thought was “great more practice labor, I really want to get some sleep” but then I started paying attention to them and realized these contractions were way different. Rather than starting up front and moving to the back they started in the back and moved to the front. But they were still irregular, but all but one stayed under 10 minutes. I tried to go back to sleep but at 1a.m. Tuesday morning I finally had enough of tossing and turning so I got up and went down stairs. First stop on the way down stairs was the bathroom where I had a ton of bloody show. Though still a bit wary I tried to ignore it. I then proceeded down to the sofa where I had a very intense contraction that I couldn’t move through. After the contraction went away I was a bit chilled, as the house was 60 degrees, so I went and got a blanket. In about 6 minutes time I had another contraction that did the same thing. At this point I’m starting to decide that this is more than just practice labor. As I sit there I have a couple more contractions that were 6-7 minutes apart. So at 1:30a.m. I decided to go back upstairs use the bathroom and check to see if Shem was still asleep. As I walk in the bedroom he very sleepily asks me, “what are you doing?” and I respond with, “probably going into labor.” As I walk into the bathroom I hear him very quickly sit up in bed. While in the bathroom I had another contraction and a ton more bloody show. This is when I decided that I was really in labor. When I came out of the bathroom I sat and talked to Shem and we noticed my contractions going from 6 minutes apart to 3-4 minutes apart and then very quickly going to every 3 minutes. At 2:30 we decided it was time to call our moms and get ready to head into the hospital whenever we decided it was time to head in sense we wanted to labor at home as long as possible. Shem’s mom showed up to watch Shawn at around 3. I continued to have contractions 3 minutes apart, in between contractions carrying on a normal conversation with Shem’s mom while Shem loaded a batch of dishes into the dish washer. A little before 3:30 I decided it was probably time to go into the hospital as my contractions were starting to intensify and continuing to be 3 minutes apart. I called my mom wondering where she was at and she was still at home so I told her to meet us at the hospital. We then got everything ready and in the truck and headed to the hospital. Contractions were still coming every 3 minutes almost exact. We get into the hospital at 3:30a.m. get checked in and the put me on the monitors and check my cervix. It was still a tight 3cm dilated but I was 90% effaced. My mom showed up around 4a.m. In the hour while waiting to see if I would change I have to use the bathroom so I get up and go to the bathroom and still tons of bloody show. After using the bathroom I sit on the side of the bed because laying down wasn’t very comfortable. My contractions were still 3 minutes apart. At 4:30 they check me and low and behold I am now a good 4cm dilated and I have a bulging bag of water!!! They are keeping me! We were so excited. I was a little nervous with the fact that I was only 4cm dilated because I thought I would have a few more hours of labor ahead of me in the hospital. Right after they checked me my contractions started to get a little more intense, never painful just intense. Not long after Shem came back from getting our bags they started coming every 2 ½ minutes and then I started to feel some more pressure so my mom went out and got the nurse. Around this point I kept telling my mom and Shem that I was seriously thinking about getting an epidural. They just kept telling me that I was doing great. This was around 5a.m. The nurse checked me and I was 7cm dilated with a bulging bag of water. She started setting up the room for the delivery of the baby right then, as I had progressed from a 4 to a 7 in a half hours time. While they were setting the room up I went into transition and oh my gosh the contractions were intense, still not painful though, then I had a ton of pressure they checked me again and I was complete with a bulging bag. They very quickly finished setting up the room and told me to let them know when my bag of water broke. My doctor still wasn’t there. A couple contractions later and my water broke, my doctor walked in right as my water broke. It was about 5:30a.m. To prove how relaxed I could make myself, even while in transition, they still needed to put my hep lock in so they proceeded to take care of that, I needed to be as relaxed as possible for this, as they were putting it in while I was having a transition contraction the nurse said my arm was so relaxed it was amazing, almost as if I wasn’t in a contraction. So now it was time to push baby William out. I try a couple pushes and baby isn’t moving, the doctor checks me and finds that I still have a lip that needs to finish dilating. So onto my left side I go and try not to push. Ha ha ha. In the meantime William’s heart rate starts dropping with my contractions, the cord is around his neck. So while trying to relax to finish dilating and trying not to push I distract myself with screaming, it wasn’t because it hurt it was just a distraction. It worked it kept me from pushing but it wasn’t helping my oxygen level so they kept telling me to stop screaming. After a couple contractions the doctor checks me again and I’m now complete for real. So I start pushing, because we know the cord is around the neck I have to get him out fast. That means no breaks. So I start pushing; a few contractions and an episiotomy later William’s head is out and the cord is un wrapped and he is screaming before the doctor can even think about cleaning out his mouth and nose. His body came out in the next contraction without me even pushing. He also had the cord around his shoulder going down around his chest. My doctor gives him to me for skin to skin contact while I deliver my placenta. He is beautiful! When the doctor was stitching me up they weighed him and measured him. He was 5 pounds 12 ounces 20 inches long and had apgars of 9 and 9. He is perfect!

I have been very excited about this pregnancy despite how much more difficult it has been. lol. Though I will admit I am so ready to be done!

This pregnancy: I found out I was expecting on May 19th. It was about 3 days before I actually missed my period. I was quite shocked to once again find myself pregnant the first month trying. The first 5-6 weeks were a breeze. I had contacted my midwife and got a first appointment set up for when I got to 11 weeks. At about 6 weeks pregnant I noticed a spot in my back that started hurting and thought I had pulled a muscle, then one day it very quickly got really painful and I started getting the chills and my back hurt so bad all I could do was cry. Way worse then any of my labors have been. So DH and I went to the ER. I ended up with a full blown kidney infection and for a couple hours there was monitored very carefully as I was tachycardic. Both the ER dr and my normal dr thought I would miscarry for sure. But this little bean was very stubborn and was here to stay. Ever since then about every 6 weeks or so I have gotten sick with something else, including bronchitis causing the need for an inhaler so I could breath. My morning sickness, though I never actually threw up, lasted until past 20 weeks and it was nausea all day long. At around 20 weeks I found out I was anemic which could have been causing the nausea for so long. So onto iron supplements I went and I'll be darned if the nausea didn't start going away. At 19 weeks we found out we are being blessed with another little boy, though I was a little heart broken it wasn't the little girl I wanted I have since gotten very excited about another little boy. DH on the other hand is still hoping that by some miracle the baby comes out a girl instead. lol. At that ultra sound we found out the placenta was very close to my cervix so I had another ultra sound done at 34-35 weeks and the placenta is in a great place and we can proceed on as planned with the birth. This pregnancy has also been a lot harder on my hips and pelvis then my previous pregnancy's. Not sure if it's because of how close all 3 of the pregnancy's have been or if it's just the way this one is affecting me but it makes sleep very difficult, even with an extra pillow.

But despite all of that I am still excited about this pregnancy and the birth of this baby. Maybe with the pregnancy being a little more difficult that means the labor will be a breeze, right?

I have my midwife home visit this evening, was scheduled for this morning but she ended up with her husbands keys and he needed to get back to work so she rescheduled for this evening. I have the group B swab, which I have decided to go ahead and do and if by chance it comes back positive I will be doing the hibiclens wash rather than the antibiotic, just in case this labor follows more closely to my last. There is no way I would have been able to get any sort of antibiotics with my last labor before I had the baby and I don't want to do the same this time. Plus I still get to avoid the IV. Anyway. Sorry I am so long winded. lol.

sorry you had such a hard first delivery! i can def. see why you've decided on the hb route. Excited to hear how your appt. with your mw goes, will you get cleared today? out of genuine curiousity, are there any concerns over your last two labors with babies hr dropping? are their things that you guys have talked about doing differently for this labor or do they think those decels were b/c of the cord? Again, excited to follow your journey!

Midwife appointment went awesome! I think I should have done another test strip as the colors ended up bleeding onto each other because I tried just peeing straight on the strip rather than dipping it. But from what I could tell everything looked good. BP was good and HR was good. Baby's heart rate was fluctuating between upper 130's- upper 140's. Midwife was very pleased with that. Even though I am technically not 37 weeks if I were to go into labor I can still have my home birth it will just be the assistants name on the certificate rather than the actual midwife. Just as I had suspected baby is super duper low. As in the midwife had a really hard time finding his head because my pubic bone hid it. She was really low when getting the heart beat as well, and it was the actual heart beat she was getting. So now to finish our bathroom remodel and babe can come any time after that. That makes me so much more relaxed about things knowing that if I do go into labor tonight I can still have my home birth. Especially after my contractions I had last night. I knew it wasn't labor contractions just my practice contractions but it still is a relief.

I talked to my midwife about HR dropping and we both think it was because of the cord except for my first which was a little distress from pit contractions combined with the cord. We both feel that keeping me off my back will probably fix the HR decels and if it doesn't we know I can get a baby out fast. DS2 was pushed out in 2 contractions, well maybe 3, I can't remember for sure but I know his head was out after about 3 good hard pushes. We are just going to see how things go with this one as pregnancy/labor goes and see what happens when it comes time to push. The only thing we know is we wont have me on my back due to the heart decels.
