Busy, busy, busy cleaning the house today. I'll try to get my intro written in bits and pieces, whenever I need a little break.

I'm going to start waaayyyy back in 1996. I had gotten married to my high school sweetheart in March, at the very young age of 18yrs (+ a month and a day!). We had been planning our wedding for about a year, and had been "not preventing" for longer than I care to admit on a public forum... We found out we were pregnant in April, and I was thrilled! I have always, as far back as I can remember, wanted to be a mommy.

Thanksgiving day I woke up around 5a.m. to pee... again. As I was trying to fall back asleep, I thought I felt a contraction. I kept dozing in and out of sleep, checking the clock as I'd wake up to my belly tightening and cramping. When there was an obvious pattern, I woke up my husband. We spent the next couple hours timing contractions and getting ready to head to the hospital. I think it was around 11a-12p when we got there. The details are pretty foggy now, but I stayed in the bed, or rocking chair the entire time I labored. At some point, my OB broke my water, and had put an internal monitor in baby's scalp. There were no real discussions about why, he just said he wanted to, and I agreed. When I would have a contraction I would just breathe through them. I didn't really want anyone touching me or talking to me. Sometime shortly after 4:00, the nurse checked my cervix and asked me if I have been having any pushy feelings. Before she finished the question, I felt the incredible urge to bear down. She then told me the Dr had just left to go baste his Thanksgiving turkey! She had him paged, and started prepping the room for delivery. I tried not to push, like she instructed, but my body just took over. Baby was crowning when my OB came rushing into the room. He had just enough time to get gloves on, and catch her. Danielle Kathleen was born on November 28, 1996 4:29pm at 39w, 0days, weighing 6lbs, 4oz. She was perfect. I was proud of her.

Now older and more experienced, I am so proud of what I did. I had, at 18yrs young brought a baby into this world with no pain meds! I know at the time I didn't really realize how amazing that was. All I knew was that sh!t hurt, and whenever the nurses asked me if I wanted something for the pain, I kept thinking there was no way tylenol was going to help. They just needed to leave me alone to get through it. I had no idea what options were available, and for that I am thankful.

    I love that story!

I really don't get why they tell women to try not to push. If the doctor isn't ready, that's kinda his problem. With ds2, I was afraid we might not be able to get to the hospital on time, so I read up on unassisted birth. One of the first instructions given (including to firefighters and the like) is never to tell the mom to try to "hold it in." It was really weird to see how much hospital procedures differ from unassisted delivery instructions.

Anyway, awesome story! Can't wait to read the rest!
