DH and I were considered the "experts" in our birth class

hahahahahaha! I laugh because I never feel like we know what we're doing Smile

We went to our first birth class yesterday at the birth center and weren't going to do it this time around, but b/c it coincides with our appts (done at the same time) and they want a few "experienced" parents - especially ones who've already given birth at the birth center - to be in the group.

It was so interesting listening to the questions they asked. But also hard too, b/c as we told them, it was harder to prepare for after baby comes b/c there is sooooo much marketing out there telling you what you should have for baby. And many times what you think you want to do or will do or won't do ends up being the opposite. Ex: we were going to wear DS - hahahaha, he wasn't having it! We were going to swaddle b/c we heard that helps with sleeping. yeah, right. He didn't have anything to do with that. We absolutely were 100% against co-sleeping...that lasted a week, DS got in bed with us and we all loved it!

We just gave the advice about going with your instinct b/c there is soooo much out there and if they were like me and crazy and over-researched and over-analyzed everything, you will swim in the details! Smile I still do....

Most of the questions though this class were about cloth diapering. It's funny b/c 2 years ago, I'm not even sure the topic of cloth diapering was brought up! We're going to bring in some of our different CD's next class to show!

AND, the best part about our appt/class yesterday is that I didn't have to drink that horrible glucose drink! Half the ladies in the class were tested - one threw up about 30 minutes after drinking it....she didn't even make it to the bathroom, poor thing. My midwife gave me the meal I'm supposed to eat before getting tested. It's awesome! it's less than what I eat for breakfast normally! I have to eat 3 4-inch pancakes, 2 tablespoons of real maple syrup and 4 oz of orange juice. Then I have to be there exactly 2 hours after to get my blood drawn. Ummm, yep, MUCH better alternative than that drink! Give me real food any day Smile

What great advice! I think this is true for labor, too- you can research and have a plan and that's all fun and grand, but in the end you do what your gut says is right.

I agree about it applying to labor too....we didn't have a "set" birth plan, just a vague one and rightfully so b/c even though I really wanted a water birth, I didn't once I got in there. I LOVED laboring in the water, but when it came time to push, it wasn't right for me!

I think it is awesome that you are there for the birth class. I think have BTDT parents at a class is really good for the newbies.
