    Default finding a doula

....... i cant find one! seriously! i've tried several websites, phone book.... word of mouth locally.... NADA! i even put a post on craigslist! all i have left is to check with the CBE's at the hospital and double check if anyone at LLL has used one locally.

i'm afraid we are just far enough out of the loop that i wont find one! i might not be able to shell out 4 grand for a HB MW, but i can certainly budget around $700 (since we'll be getting a tax refund around then anyway..) for a doula, and I WANT ONE.

any suggestions? i live in northern MI and my zip is 49770 if anyone wants to go looking for one!

Ok I went searching and came up with this name http://doulanetwork.com/directory/doulas/169.htm. She is in Harbor Springs not far from you, don't know anything about her but hopefully she is good! I also live in MI but I live near Lansing. I will ask my midwives and doula if they know of anyone up near you.

    PS I LOVE Petoskey!

That stinks. But if you can't find an official doula, do you know ANYONE who is a natural birth advocate? Maybe you won't have an official doula, but any type of support person who is like minded will likely be helpful than not having anyone at all, you know?

Hopefully the one listed by Marcia will be of assistance!

Maybe you could try to ask your midwife or doctor? or give a HB MW a call and see if she knows any doulas in the area. You can also call the L&D at local hospitals and ask them if they have a list of doulas. I observed a Hypnobabies class this summer and the instructor kept a list of local doulas on hand...maybe try calling some childbirth education instructors?

    Good luck!!

I'm not sure how many midwifes are near you but I know my 2, they also offer doula services. I know the my doula is training to be a midwife so perhaps you could find a midwife that was a doula that would be willing to be there for you as a doula (not a midwife).

nearest MW's are actually 2 hrs away, DD was only about 4 hrs of real labor so if #2 is quicker they'd never make it... thats why we are not considering a HB this time around.

BUT...... i think emansmom found the closest and best choice anyway! woot! its sunday so i'm not going to call and annoy her right now.... especially since my DD is sick.... but its like a window opened! yay! thank you! i knew if someone found the right website we'd find a local one! thank you!

Have you looked into NCB or similar yahoo groups for your area? That can sometimes be helpful.

i got an email from her pretty quick- i guess she is now the OB director at the hospital and does not offer doula services anymore. i knew it was too good to be true.

    searching yahoo groups now.......

i know there are areas that are much more rural than here, but seriously.... this hospital people come to from 60+ miles in some directions... even though i'm only 5 miutes from it doesnt mean this is really an urban area or anything.
