Full moon's effect on labor....if any

So I don't know much about this, but I do think there has to be *some* truth to it. I've already looked up the full moon closest to my due date Smile

Anyways, b/c of this insomnia I have sometimes, I decided to read up on it. This is the first article I read tonight

http://www.firsttimepregnancy.com/176.html

I never, ever even thought of it this way! Not that I agree or not, but it's definitely interesting! I hope to read more as the night goes on.

Anyone have any insight? Opinions? Experiences?

Interesting. I think it's probably a coincidence... but with DD, my water did break as a first sign of labor the morning after a full moon. (Full moon 8.6.09, water broke 8.7.09, she was born in the wee hours of 8.8.09 :D.)

I definitely think there's a connection between the two. It maybe doesn't present itself in every woman and every labour, but I believe it's there.

When my sister went into labour with her first baby over 7 years ago, it was the night before a full moon. The L&D unit was empty. It was just her. The next night, the night of the full moon, they filled up so fast that they were sending women to other floors of the hospital because they were over flowing.

I'm fully convinced its got some affect... I was 35 weeks on the full moon/lunar eclipse/winter solstice and my water broke, and gave birth that same day. I had no previous signs of labor before that morning. Infact, i was out taking pictures of that full moon/lunar eclipse and then my water broke as I was uploading pictures on my computer. My water broke before my labor even really started, it was a good 7 hours before my contractions started.

did anyone else here watch that reality show that was on discovery health about the freestanding birth center in Miami, "House of Babies"? They filmed an episode when there was a full moon and the midwife there fully believed it had significance, claiming the birth center was always busy when there was a full moon.

Oh, and its worth mentioning, at my birth center, i was the only one who birthed that day of the full moon/lunar eclipse, but there were 2 births the next day.

I don't know how much of this is real or just coincidence, but my kids were born within days of the full moon. My last was born at 36 weeks and was the only one where my water broke naturally and the closest to the full moon! (She was born Sunday and the full moon was Monday) There was also a mad rush at the hospital and all the dr/nurses were commenting on how crazy that week was starting out out to be! The paper even did an article about the moon and labor because that day all the hospitals were overflowing with women in labor, some like me weren't even due for another month! If this has some truth to it, I've been feeling I'm going to go around 38 weeks this time around (don't ask why) and there just so happens to be a full moon on May 17 which would put me at 38 weeks+ 3days! That or I'll be two weeks late because the next full is on June 15th! Can I hope for the first one? LOL

yes, same here...the one closest to my due date is only a week before, so I'm hoping that it'll hold true for me! I'd be ok with 39 weeks Smile I'd rather not wait for the next one after!!!
