GD test

I had my midwife appointment on Saturday where we went over the breakfast I need to eat 2 hours prior to my appointment for my blood draw... and all I can say... is how in the world am I going to be able to finish all the food/liquid they want me to? Pregnant or not it's a lot of food, or at least liquid for me to imagine having to get down in one sitting. Then I have to go for a 30 minute walk right after.

Part of me wishes they just wanted me to drink the bottle of "Sunkist" since it's way easier, but I guess eating is better than having to fast. Basically they want me to have:

- 2 scrambled eggs (I don't like store bought ones anymore after eating farm fresh at MIL's eggs so luckily they're saving me 2 for the test since they've been losing the chickens to coyotes lately).
- 2 slices of toast or 1 english muffin
- 2 slabs (or whatever they're called) of butter
- 1 - 8 oz glass of milk
- 1 - 8 oz glass of orange juice
- 1 - 8 oz glass of tea or coffee (I don't drink either) so they said water was okay

I can't add anything to it or not eat/drink some of it. For those who didn't have to drink the orange soda what sort of breakfast menu did you have to consume?

I'm not too worried, I didn't have GD with Callie and I'm eating better this pregnancy than I did with hers... and I've gained maybe 1 lb since my first OB appointment at 8 weeks

I had to do the drink and it made me so sick. Maybe its just my big belly but that doesn't look like much food to me, just alot of liquid. Usually when I see the breakfasts it includes sugary foods like pancakes with maple syrup or the like. Good luck with the test.. I hated having to drink that thing so i'm totally jealous that others don't have to.

My m/w just had me eat a high protein breakfast in the AM (and she recommended no juice with breakfast), then 2 hours later drink 8 oz of plain grape juice, they waited an hour and did the blood draw. I ate 2 eggs with cheese on whole wheat bagel and had a small mint tea with no sugar.

I've never heard of this! You eat a breakfast instead of drinking the glucola?

Wow, very different from the orange drink, which was all I had.

I am hoping they'll do this for my pg this time. The sugary drink I had last pg made me so ill. blech.

in my MW center handbook, this is listed as an option (it is the same breakfast as you listed), but I think the handbook is outdated. It states then you come in for the blood draw, but the center itself no longer does blood draws/lab stuff on site. it did mention in the handbook that it isn't as reliable as the 1 hour test and might cause more people to "fail" and require the 3 hour test...even with that said, I would still opt for a breakfast than that nasty glucola!

I never even knew that would be an option- but I think I'd opt for the glucola. Apparently I handle sugary drinks better than big breakfasts:)

I'm jealous! I was given the choice between THE DRINK and a load of jelly beans. I chose the drink as I don't have much of a sweet tooth and I figured I could get it down and over with faster. I often eat two eggs on an english muffin with melted cheese for breakfast so that doesn't seem like too much food to me. I'd be in trouble with all that liquid though. How long to you have to finish it all? Can you eat breakfast and drink the liquids slowly over the two hours? That would pretty doable.

I have to eat breakfast 2 hours before the test, so I'll have to wake up earlier than normal to eat (which is hard to do anyway when my body isn't awake) and it all needs to be consumed before I take the 30 minute walk. We have about an hour long car ride, so I'll be having to finish a glass of whatever in between eating the eggs, toast, and then hope that I have room left to finish the water.

8 oz is one cup, so it's not like you'll be drinking a full big glass of each...but still kind of a lot...

Drinking all of that would be the thing that got me.

Wow that is a lot of stuff to have to eat. I'd get sick having to fit all that stuff in.

Why not just decline the test?
