    Default Good Patient

    This is a vent. LOL.

I'm facebook friends with the wife of an old coworker. She's 39 weeks pg with #2 and a L&D nurse at my transfer hospital. Her FB status last night was something about being ready to NOT be pg anymore. A few of her nursing coworkers commented with times that they're working so that she knows who's on staff when she goes in to have the baby. She said, "And don't worry everyone, I'll be a good patient: epidural early and bottle feeding!"

Ick! I don't like what this implies! That to be a good "patient" one must get the epidural early and not bother the nurses with breastfeeding troubles? And this is the mentality of the nurses at my transfer hospital. Well, I'm banking on NOT needing to transfer!!

AAAHHHHHH!!! That is so wrong! I hope you don't need a transfer, either. Although I never worry about being a "good patient." My medical bills pay their salaries, so they can just deal with it.

That would drive me bonkers too. Pleasing the hospital staff should be pretty low on the priority list.

That is just sick! There really is a huge need for a massive overhaul of the maternity nursing education. Early epidural and bottlefeeding....do they even teach the risks?

Yikes! I sure hope that doesn't reflect upon the entire nursing staff! I have a friend who's a nurse and she has said she'd never work in maternity simply because she couldn't stand to be around nurses with outlooks like that. Should you have to transfer, don't worry one bit about being a good patient. I sure as he** wouldn't! I'm going to tour L&D at my transfer hospital tomorrow. I'm afraid they're going to make a file on me with big red stickers after I start asking questions. Maybe I should disguise myself? Speaking of which .... I need to post about that .... tours not disguises ....

OMG... That is so irritating. The hospital I delivered at was very pro-BF-ing, and all the nurses I had were well trained with helping us with that. As for the early epidural thing... Unfortunately they probably have the same outlook, although no one ever came out and said it. It was more like "when" you get your epidural, rather than "if"...

Ack, that is so unnerving. Good thing you are not birthing there and likely won't ever have to meet the nursing staff!
