Hello!

I didn't realize this board was still active! How exciting. My name is Joan and I am "due" in a little over a week and going for a VBAC for my second child. There are literally only 2 doctors offices out of three local hospitals that are willing to let me try and only one took my insurance. Thankfully, they have an amazing midwife who I've been incredibly happy with throughout my pregnancy. The iffy news is that she's out of town from today (38W 5D) until Apr 7 (40W 1D), so I'm really hoping I make it until she gets back. As of now, I'm not showing many signs of labor, so I'm hopeful.

As for my first child, I had a scheduled c-section and did not get a chance to labor. The section was scheduled because of an anatomical abnormality (long, weird story) which has since been corrected. The midwife and doctors feel good about my chances of having a successful VBAC this time around. I'm hoping to go natural because I really feel like having control over my body is my best chance of having a successful VBAC, especially with my family's history of giganto babies. Smile

Hopefully it's not too late for me to get in here and get a lodge started. The sticky hasn't been posted on since December so I wasn't sure where to request one.

Hey Joan! :wavehello: I hope you can get a lodge too! Maybe Elizabeth can start one for you, being that she is a mod and everything.

Welcome! I hope everything goes smoothly this time around. If your m/w is not back, the doc on call will let you try for the VBAC, right? Still, I can understand wanting to wait. Hope your little one cooperates.

The two OBs in the office are also supportive of my VBAC, but neither of them are midwifes, KWIM? My midwife spends more time with you at the hospital and helps you choose positions and helps you in labor more vs just catching the baby like most OBs. She's also looser on the monitoring standards. Hopefully, if I go while she's gone, I'll at least get the doctor who is more on board with the natural methods than the other.

Do you know what their policy on monitoring is? Like are you required to have a monitor because you're a VBAC? I know in our state, if you're in the hospital you have to have a monitor if you're VBAC. However, I just talked to a doula last night who said her mama was able to labor on the bed in an all-fours position as long as she had the monitor pushed deep into her abdomen. :/ I hope you can still move around!

I'm not sure about state policy, but the OBs in the office require constant monitoring with the VBAC, but I know my midwife and she'll take it off me if I want to go to the bathroom and she won't let it get in the way of me moving around, especially when she's with me. The OBs, on the other hand, will insist on the monitor being hooked up and working the entire time, so I'm a little worried about it limiting my mobility if they're in charge.
