Do I really need to take a class, online or FTF? Or get I get by with just checking out the hypnobirthing book from our library and listening to hypnobirthing exercises and affirmations on youtube?
It really depends on what you're looking for. If you want some pretty good relaxation, guided imagery, and positive thinking, you could get away with the Hypnobirthing book, but I would recommend at least purchasing one or two of the CDs they sell. If you want a thorough study of hypnosis and to learn how to relax deeply on cue and increase and direct your body's endorphins, either take a Hypnobabies class or buy the Hypnobabies Homestudy course (check ebay, you may be able to find it used). A Hypnobirthing class, it would probably depend on who the instructor was how good it is.
For what it's worth, I've used both. My reason for wanting to learn hypnosis was because I do not like pain. I also didn't love the epidural I had with my first baby (ok, well, I loved the no pain part but I hated the side effects). Anyway, HypnoBirthing was just ok. I ended up buying some Hypnobabies materials after taking the HypnoBirthing class because HypnoBirthing just wasn't enough on it's own for me to feel like I was really learning the techniques. I used the full Hypnobabies program with my last two and it was SO much better for a LOT of reasons.
Thanks! That was exactly what I needed to know. I'm not exactly sure if I just want to dabble or really get into it. So that gives me something to think about. But I figure any amount relaxation is helpful.
Like the other ladies said it depends what you're looking for. For me I know I have poor self-motivation lol, so I knew I needed something structured and in depth like hypnobabies. I'm taking a class for the same reason rather than doing the home study- it keeps me motivated! I'm really liking it so far and I am finding its benefiting me in other areas besides preparing for childbirth. Stress management, positive thinking, relaxation.
