I'm now officially a student doula!

I signed up for Childbirth International's doula training course this morning! I wanted to talk to DH about it and make sure he was okay with the financial aspect of it and he was supportive, so I did it. From what I've seen on the student website so far, I really like the way everything is set up. They make it easy for you to find other students in your area, too, which I love.

I talked to one of my friends about the possibility of doula-ing for her birth for the training requirements and she likes the iea (she is borrowing my Hypnobabies homestudy, so she would like the support of someone who has done Hypnobabies). Apparently the hospital has a 2 person labor support limit (this is not the hospital where I had DS, but I don't know if that hospital has any policies about it--I didn't ask), and she wants her DH and mom there, but she was already planning on writing a letter to get an exception because she wants her 3 kids there, too, so if she gets the exception, then it will be fine.

Very exciting! I know at the hospital where I delivered DD they had the 2 person limit but at the orientation there were 2 women who were doulas that ran the orientation that said they had an "in" with the hospital to be an extra person. Hopefully the permissions will go smoothly. Smile

Oooo, this is good to know. My DH works in hospital administration (financial). His current hospital doesn't have a maternity unit, but the company won't be keeping him here more than a few years, so having a hospital employee husband might help me be able to "work under" policies in the future.

The staff at the hospital where I had DS were very impressed with Hypnobabies, so I think I can give a good impression to the other hospital's staff during my friend's birth if I'm helping her with it.

I have 3 other pregnant friends. 1 is having a homebirth, but she's due pretty close to the one I've already talked to, 1 had a very fast labor with her first, and 1 has said in the past that she prefers to have just her DH and the medical personel in the room...but I'm likely to get 2 births with all of these pregnant friends without even having to advertise.
