Intro from a long time lurker

Hi everyone! I'm Shannon. It feels like I have been waiting to join this board forever! I started lurking over here before DH and I started TTC number 2 back in the spring of '08. It ended up being a much longer journey than expected. We got pregnant pretty quickly, but sadly that ended in a m/c at 16 weeks. We then went on to try for another year with 2 more m/c's. It was a long and painful journey, but now I'm almost 30 weeks pregnant with a little boy!

I started to become interested in natural birth when I was pregnant with DD. I did a little research, but no preparation. I thought I would just see how things went. Well I ended up being induced due to blood pressure issues. As far as inductions go, it went really smoothly and was overall a very positive birth experience. But it was not my ideal birth. I ended up with an epi after only a few hours. I only ended up needing a little bit of Pit, but even that made my contractions long, strong and right back to back. I was not prepared to deal with that. My labor ended up being pretty short and I didn't have to push long. Like I said, it was overall a very positive experience, I just want an even better experience this time.

This time around I'm taking better care of myself. I'm eating better and exercising to try to stay healthy and avoid and induction. I'm also doing the Hypnobabies home study course. I'm only on week two but I'm loving it so far! I look forward to getting to know everyone and getting support from this board!

Hi Shannon! Congratulations on your pregnancy! I am also working on Hypnobabies homestudy, for the first time. How are you liking it? I started it late, so I am on week 4.
It will be great to hear about your journey!

Hi Shannon. Congrats on your pregnancy, and good luck with getting your ideal birth this time. I also doing the HypnoBabies study course, and I'm on week 2. I love it, too. Just like you, I had a positive experience with my first, but I'm hoping for something different this time.

What is your favorite part of the HB study? And are there any parts your are struggling with?

Welcome, Shannon! I'm sorry to hear you've had such a rough journey TTC#2 and I'm sorry for your losses. Congrats on your sticky pregnancy and on making it to the 3rd trimester!

I had a similar experience with my first birth--researched but not prepared, ended up getting induced and an epidural--not really a bad experience for me either, but not my ideal. I recently had my second baby--a spontaneous, unmedicated birth using the Hypnobabies homestudy course! I hope you can have the same!

Welcome! I was a long time lurker here, too. We sound a lot aloike, actually! I lurked all through my pg w/ DS #1 but never posted--I was a lot like you, I'd just see how it went. I ended up with an epi and vacuum w/ episiotomy and tearing, and it was horrible. I'm committed to natural this time as I will be birthing in a BC, so all of that stuff is not an option. Smile I also had a m/c between my kids, too.

Congrats and welcome to the board!

Hi Shannon! Your story is almost identical to mine. I'm starting week 2 of hypnobabies too. Are you still giving birth in the hospital?

I really like just taking the time to relax. And I'm so impressed with how well it seems to work for me so far. The only thing I'm struggling with is if I practice at bedtime. I figured I just fall asleep if I was too tired but instead I seem to get extremely agitated. I get itchie and can't relax. I constantly feel like I have to move. I usually practice during DD's nap time and I don't have that problem at all.

I am staying with my same OB and same hospital. There really aren't a lot of good choices in MO. There is only one birth center in the whole state and it's 2 hours away. The laws are changing (I think), but up until really recently midwives have been illegal and all homebirths are basically done underground. Because of my history and a few health problems I have, I'm uncomforatable with this. Plus even though my OB is not terribly natural birth minded, I just love him and feel a huge loyaltly to him. He was absolutely wonderful to me during my losses. He's also really laid back and usually takes a wait and see attitude with any problems. I think that's why I feel like I can have the birth I want with him. He will let me call the shots absent a real problem.

My hosptital is pretty progressive. The policies line up more or less with my thinking. They've also made a number of great updates since I had DD like birth tubs and the wireless fetal monitoring. I'm excited about that.

It's so great to see so many familar faces here! Looks like we have a few Junebug moms hanging out here Smile Hi Melynda, Erica and Audra!

Shannon, this might help you with the restlessness (it says itching in the headline but talks about the fidgety feeling too) I was REALLY struggling with that for a while there when I listened to my Hypnobirthing CD at bedtime, but it seems to have gotten better again lately....soon after I read this, actually. Maybe just knowing it really did help Smile
