    Default Introduction

I have been lurking around here for awhile now, and have even started commenting occasionally, so I thought I better introduce myself

My name is Kyla, and I am pregnant with my 3rd. I have had hospital births with all my babies, the first because I didnt think of any other options, and the last two because I live pretty northern and remote and we have no midwives available to us.

With DD I went into the hospital after about 11 hours of labor, when the nurse checked me my water broke, they lost her heartbeat, I ended up getting an internal monitor, but she was born about 15 min later so it wasnt a big deal. I also had some fentenal within that time. My husband was also unable to be there for her birth.

With DS I labored for about 5 hours at home, went to the hospital, found out he was posterior and my water had broken (I was in the bathtub). I wasnt as far along as I had anticipated (after how fast my other labor went), so I ended up asking for fentanal again. However, it took them forever to put my IV in, and then the Dr tripped over it, so I didnt end up getting anything, and DS turned and was born 1 hour later.

So with this one, I would love to have a birth were I am not begging for drugs and I am hoping I make it to the hospital in time. That is actually my biggest stressor right now, as we had problems with our childcare when DS was born, and I would have had a homebirth if he hadnt been posterior.

Welcome Kyla! Are you thinking of having a homebirth this time? I hope this birth goes just how you'd like it to.

Unfortunately, a home birth isn't really an option for me as the closest midwife is a good 5 hours away (in good weather). So if I do have a home birth it would be unattended and unintentional, so we are hoping to make it to the hospital

I recognize you from a few other boards, I guess. Welcome here! Are you doing anything to prepare yourself to get through the intensity/pain without begging for drugs?

I stalk (I mean 'lurk') your birth board too, Mara! I am only a month after you, and my board is really slow, so I like to see what is going on with you ladies (remind myself of what is coming).

I haven't been doing a ton to prepare myself. Just hoping to go so fast I don't get the chance I guess. I thought about doing hypnobabies, but due to me going so fast, and a sad financial situation, I am having a hard time spending money on something on something that I ultimately know I will get through either way. I think I would have made it with DS if he hadn't been posterior, it was just hearing that I wasn't as far along as I thought that sent me over the edge. This time I am hoping that I know better and can stay calm, no matter what.

Well, I'm not a hypno-birther, but, I did take a "best of natural child birth" class when I was awaiting DD. Do you even have some books you could read for other strategies on getting through the pain? I mean, hoping to go fast sounds fairly reasonable, but, having *some* other strategies could be good too!
