This past week I've had a wicked case of itchy stitches. Everything is healing up fine...I'm just at the stage where I've wanted to claw my cootch off. I had a pretty extensive repair, so that's a lot of stitches....hence, a lot of itching. Anyways, besides keeping up with the peri bottle (which I'd gladly marry, at this point), I started using my Earth Mama Bottom Balm on my perineum and where ever I could feel the sutures. I'm telling you, it's friggin awesome. It totally takes the itch away and has this lovely cooling effect.
Anyways, I thought I'd post about it here. I personally think everyone should buy some and keep it in their fridge just in case they end up with a frankenvag like me. It totally saved my sanity this past week!
OK, this post comes at the perfect time! I am so uncomfortable from my 1st degree tear... I am honestly wondering if the doc stitched me right or not. But it's so early still I know... I need to be patient. I've been using witch hazel pads on it but that only helps for so long. So, hearing something I can use is encouraging. AND knowing that I shouldn't feel healed up in 5 days is encouraging too. Soooooo... thanks for sharing!!
Going to our local diaper store today anyway and I see online that they have some!
"frankenvag" hahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahaha This is a great way to describe how things feel down there.
I hate the stinging/itchy stitches stage. I haven't felt mine for a while now, so I think they're all gone (I had 4). I'll keep thatbalm in mind if I have another babe. I'm glad it's working for you! Did they give you a guess at how many stitches you have?

thanks for the tip! I had a lot of stitching with my others, so I want to be prepared this time!
I ended up taking a couple of mine out around 4w PP after one of my kids because they were coming loose and driving me nuts. I disn't mind the stitches themselves too much, but a loose end scratching around in there is so uncomfortable.

middle boy 8.12.09 @ 39+4 7lbs 9oz, 21" BFed for 13.5 months

And "frankenvag" is for how things probably *look* down there. There's this ridge from the suture line that goes all the way back. My doc has assured me it'll flatten out a bit, but I'm not so sure!
Oh if only this was posted 6.5 months ago... I had an epi (must to my distaste) while it was healing not only did it KILL from the stitches being too tight, but it was so itchy... some relief would have been nice. Boo!
I'll remember this for next time just in case I tear. No more epi's for this Mama!!!
Good thing I didn't have a full bladder when I read "frankenvag"!!!
I will keep this tip in mind! Itching = healing if that is any consolation.
Damn my squished up bladder and you funny ladies, your going to make me pee myself!!!!
