Midwife clinic still hasn't called (updated)

They said they would call by yesterday but they didn't. I didn't want to sound desperate so I didn't call either. I will call Monday though. I did some research and found a report from 2008 indicating that midwives in our province are very overburdened and its very hard to get care with them sometimes. It's sad. People lie about EDD and address just to get in with any midwife that will take them. But I have another problem now. Even if I get on the wait list, I need care in the meantime. But my GP is still in the old city I moved away from a year ago and that's an hour drive away. I called her and she doesn't do prenatal care. She would refer me to an OB but she doesn't know any OBs in the new city I live in. She thinks I need to find a new GP here which would suck because I love my GP. I don't think I'm allowed to find an OB here without a referral from my GP. I'm so lost...

lurker... also from Ontario.
So why not ask the clinic for names of GPs for pre-natal care? At least they would be midwife friendly! Then see if your former GP can refer you to one of them. There may be a hospital connection between her and some of them. Don't be panicky, just advance one step at a time... What do you mean by "allowed"???

No advice, but sorry you are going through this. Sounds like Gardenbug has a great suggestion though. Hopefully when you call Monday you'll find out they will take you. KUP :bighug:

Well, I left them a message this morning. I'm in training all day (just taking 15 min break now) so I doubt I will catch their call.

As for the OB, if I do end up on their waiting list and need an OB, the only thing I can do is get a referral via a walk-in clinic in my city. Ug...I really don't want to go that route but my GP only knows good OBs in my old city, and I can't travel an hour each way for that kind of care.

Good luck. I hope you find someone soon.

Ok, they called today to explain! They hired two new midwives due to demand and they are just working out the schedule. They need to make sure they have full coverage in January for my EDD before they can take me on (something about midwives on vacation ?....she didn't go into it)

Anyway, she said they most likely will be able to take me on, but they are just finishing the hiring and new scheduling hopefully by the end of the week before they can say 100%
