No more Hypnobabies used home study program

I've been asked to post this on boards I frequent so that people know the change:

We have discontinued our Hypnobabies USED Home Study course buy-back program, and are no longer accepting any returns on any used Hypnobabies materials. We regret any inconvenience this may cause anyone. -- Kerry Tuschhoff, Hypnobabies Founder/Director

Grrrrr......when I ordered the lady told me I could sell it back for a very good price. I would not have bought it otherwise since it was still quite expensive even though the workbook was written in with another mom's "special place" and the scripts were altered to meet her needs.

Yeah, I'm sorry for that. I think the reasoning for discontinuing the program was that there are lots of used sets on eBay, there's a lot of "traffic" in the office generated by used sets coming in and going out, and people are sending in stuff that's not even the home study course. You would probably be able to sell it on eBay....

I've used my Hypnobabies stuff for multiple babies and it's still way cheaper than an epidural (and more effective, ime), so it's still a bargain as far as I'm concerned. Smile

I really hope it works for me. I have been feeling so awful the past week....the world's worst heartburn and reflux to the point of puking. I've tried using the hypnosis to work through that and it doesn't help. I actually had to turn it off last night b/c I felt so sick I couldn't stay still.

I will probably try to resell it on CL since this is most definitely my last pg.

I've found that hypnosis is much easier to use and more effective for the birth process (which is a normal, supposed-to-happen process) than it is for something that is "wrong". Heartburn is miserable, ugh! I finally found some relief by getting chewable papaya enzymes from the health food store. They even tasted good!

I hope you feel better! Smile

That's what DH was saying when I expressed my concern. I also know that birth has a good outcome whereas puking is never a good outcome.

Does the hypnobabies nausea relief come with the home study course or is that separate. I have that CD and it really helps me with my nausea and often keeps me from puking. I know you have a vomit fear as well, so it might help.

It is a separate CD.

That stinks that you can't send them back. Oh well, I'm not sure if I'm done having babies anyway.

Kristin, I'm glad you brought up the heartburn thing. It doesn't help me with it either. I was a little worried about it. But I do find that it helps with other aches and pains so maybe it's something about that burning feeling. I sure wish it did work because I hate taking stuff for it. I'll have to look into the papaya enzymes.

I am going to have to ask my MW for a prescription just to have on hand for the worst cases. I had heartburn towards the end with Zoe, but nothing like this. Even Zantac doesn't help.

You might want to try raw almonds for heartburn. Someone on this board suggested that to me when I was pg. They did seem to work for me--my heartburn seemed to show up randomly for several days and then disappear for a long time with no apparent pattern...it was kind of weird. Anyway, almonds are worth a try, since they are also a good source of protein and healthy fats.

Too bad about the them discontinuing the used program.

The raw almonds are awesome - my acupuncturist suggested them (along with the papaya enzymes, but I haven't used them since the almonds worked for me and I have very little HB now) at the beginning of my pregnancy when I was having pretty bad heartburn. They helped a lot so I suggest them to everyone now!

It's unfortunate that they are discontinuing it. You can get some great deals on ebay, but I would much rather buy it directly from the company to make sure it's all there and right, I have had some other bad ebay experiences. Sad

I wonder if it has to do with the new "version" that came out not long ago? I sold my used set on Craigslist, and I didn't even have to post a for sale ad, I saw a "wanted" post when I was posting some other things.

I had no idea this would help for people who had a fear of vomiting. Mine is major. Very saddened that the hypnobabies is no longer wanting to do home-based studies. So much for getting new customers?

I also am having horrible horrible heartburn and acid reflux! (Never had it with my first!) I was told by a friend of mine to try papaya enzymes (not regular papaya, but the enzymes). I haven't heard of the raw almonds though! I may have to try that!

No, that's not right. They are still offering the home study. They are no longer offering used copies of the home study course for sale.

Here is an explanation that Kerry posted on the facebook Hypnobabies fan page:

To answer a few questions:

>>Why?>>

Our Used Hypnobabies Home Study Course Program has become overwhelming to implement at Hypnobabies since we have had so much response to it. It takes a lot of time, energy and money to process the incoming courses & payouts, refurbish the courses with new handouts, CDs or other materials, process the sales and shipping of the refurbished courses.

>>My guess is that it wasn't generating enough income>>>

It actually never generated *any* income here at Hypnobabies; in fact it did cost us money every time we processed a course to make sure that all materials were current and usable for the next mom. For those who don't know what our Used Home Study Course entailed:

We received a used Hypnobabies Home Study Course, checked over every page of all workbooks, materials, all CDs etc. We cut a check and mailed it to the mom who sent it in to us, then replaced any necessary materials and re-sold the course to a mom who needed it, for the exact same amount we paid the mom who sent it in to us. We have never made any profit on it and were happy to be the "middle-women" since at the time we started the program , there were only a few used Hypnobabies courses available on auctions like eBay and some of them were missing vital materials, so we decided to help as many moms as we could to get the real thing.

Although we have been doing this for years, the response over the last year has been overwhelming and we now need to cut back. The good news is that there are always used Hypnobabies Home Study Courses available on eBay now and most of them are only a year or two old and seem to contain more of the correct materials that our Hypno-Moms need.

. . .

Thanks and Happy Weekend to all,
Kerry
