Obligatory supervising OB appointment

So, I had my obligatory appointment with the OB that supervises the midwives (he insists on seeing every VBAC).

Basically, everything is going fine, Im up 20 lbs total, and he would prefer if we had a firm delivery date by 39 weeks - if not in labor by then, he would like a c-section. BUT his caveat is that he wants to have another appointment by 39+3 if Im not delivered so that he can be sure to discuss the additional risks of going later - He's still ok if we decline the c-section.

I knew the data he was telling me, but Im not going to schedule a c-section unless something is not right (bad positioning, etc) or the risks of our individual situation outweigh the risks of c-section. I wont be able to make that decision until I know a LOT more about our individual situation AT THAT TIME.

We also finagled a tour of L&D, since there are no classes or tours scheduled there before we go. THey have a couple of nice huge tubs for laboring (and occasional birthing) in, these nifty roller things for birthing balls, and in the event that both tub rooms are taken, these HUGE showers that they can put shower chairs in. Seems pretty nice overall.

The nurse who gave us the tour looked over my birth plan (I trimmed it a LOT for the "official" L&D staff version per the advice of the Navelgazing Midwife's posts...since the "long" version has been gone over with the midwives and we're all in agreement) and she was very supportive of it (thank goodness! last time I just got the eyeroll and "you're going to have a section" comment).

Only bad thing today is not related to the visit, but my son had a stomach bug last week, and I think I've caught it. My guts are 17 kinds of pissed off at me and that's causing contractions like crazy. *sigh*

Such is life!

I'm glad the appointment went well! I think it's frustrating how so many providers want a delivery date & seem to be quick to re-section a mama. Sounds like it went well for you though & you handled it nicely, that's wonderful! So glad you were able to tour L&D & that the nurse didn't give you the lovely eye roll as she read your birth plan.

Being sick however, while pregnant, is the worst & you have my utomost sympathies! I sure hope you start feeling better soon :bighug:

Are you going to try to hold out for VBAC?

Yes, I am. How long depends on what's going on at the time. Since I have GDM and have a higher risk of preeclampsia, etc, we'll just have to see what's going on at the end. If everything is going well, BPP/NSTs are good, BP is good, sugars are in control, etc, we wait. I already know that I personally dont want to go past 41 weeks due to increased risks (I knew THAT before I got pregnant).

Here's to hoping that the entire situation doesnt occur because she decides to come on her own!

Sounds like a good appt overall. I'm sorry that they are pressuring you to deliver by a certain date. I really hope she comes before then so you don't have to worry about the decision!
Hope you feel better soon!!!

Don't you hate having to jump through hoops? Especially when you're pregnant?

My belly never fits through those hoops well when i'm pregnant. Smile

Congrats on a good appt. It sounds like the L&D unit is really nice.

Overall it sounds like you had a good appt! I wish my hospital had birthing tubs. I wouldn't want to deliver in the water, but I would love to labor in one...

I'm, for some reason, just now reading this.

I hope you are feeling better and the stomach bug went away and took the contractions along with it.

I hope that you are able to deliver before their deadlines and that none of the possible complications come up that would make them push for the section more.
