Pubic pain (xp)
I seriously feel like I have been kicked in the pubic bone. It extends up just a little to my lower abdomen. It is hurting so bad and I don't know why it came on all of a sudden. I was just commenting last week to my husband that I was still moving around really well and not having any pain. I attributed it to seeing the chiropractor regularly, and now I think I jinxed myself. It hurts soooo bad especially if I am walking, standing up from sitting, and lifting one foot off the ground like to put my shoes on.
I have been considering binding my belly to see if that would work. I have a support belt but I really don't like it. It doesn't support my whole belly if that makes sense. I've thought about using an extra wide ace bandage. What do you think? Anyone have any ideas for me? I don't know if I can go another 8+ weeks like this :(
I'm sorry! hugs! no ideas just sympathy!
Sounds to me like what they call the "pubic symphasis" or something like that... what you describe is EXACTLY what I had. All it took for me, was one visit to the chiro, he did a move where he put his hands together like he was going to do chest compressions on me, but then put his hands right on my pubic bone and pushed down. It hurt like heck when he did it, but, once he did it, it was all over! I never had that pain again. I did keep going to see him regularly through the rest of my pregnancy. Has your chiro done anything similar?
I'm 25 weeks now, and have been having this pain for about 2 weeks now... I have 4 weeks until I can see a chiro back in the States... so I feel your pain.
I have to say, though it seems counter-intuitive, since walking is painful, that I have gone for a few long walks in the last week, and I have had less pain this week than the last two... so more movement seems to help, even if it's slightly painful while I do it.
I also have started somewhat religiously sleeping with a pillow between my legs, especially at the knees... that helps too.
Good luck! I hope you can get it figured out!
(I just read your post again, and seriously, the "walking, standing up from sitting or lifting one leg to put shoes on..." sentence sent shivers down my spine... it just SO exactly describes what I was going through in my first pregnancy and what I'm starting to have now...putting on shoes was the WORST. I hope you can get it handled!)
Sounds like symphysis pubic dysfunction to me! I got that with Weston. Definitely have your chiro do an adjustment. Binding your belly probably won't help, but binding lower around your hips can help by providing more stability to the joint. You might try the support belt again, especially if it's one that goes around the hips in addition to under the belly, but if it causes more pain, obviously stop. You need to keep the pelvic joint as stable as possible. Here are some of the things that worked for me: keep a pillow between your knees at night, and a pillow under your belly if there's a gap; keep your legs together when getting in & out of bed and in & out of the car (a plastic garbage bag on the seat can help with rotation!); when standing, keep your weight evenly balanced on both feet; go up & down stairs sideways whenever possible, and switch sides halfway up. This last one I discovered quite by accident, I was halfway up the stairs to my door when I had to stop from the pain. I was standing sideways, leaning against the wall, and I had to go to the bathroom so badly I just *had* to get up those stairs. Going up sideways didn't cause me any pain at all! Obviously, if any of these things are more painful, stop doing them. Here's a good article about what SPD is & what you can do about it.
I am thankful to see this thread (and I am brand new here!) I have been experiencing this type of pain since I was about 16 weeks pregnant. I will be 31 weeks tomorrow. The support band has helped some, but not enough to take it away. I am feeling encouraged to try some of the other options that have been suggested here. I have not seen a chiropractor or even thought about it. Are there certain chiropractors in particular who work with pregnant women? I don't know why, but the thought of seeing a chiropractor kind of scares me! But anything that might help...
I had the same kind of pain with my first pregnancy, but it didn't really start until the last 6-8 weeks. Now as I approach my final 6-8 weeks, I am starting with lower back pain and sciatica... so if I can get a handle on any area of the pain, it would be great. All said, I know the endurance will be worthwhile!
Jennifer, chiro's can get special certification/training in working with pregnant women, and you should find someone who has that. When you do, you'll be so glad you did. It's amazing how the pain just disappears- ok, well, mine did, and I hope yours will too!
Yep, this same thing happened with my third pregnancy, and around the same time, too. My doc explained it as your muscles aren't what they used to be (due to multiple pregnancies) and they're now much more lax. The extra pressure down there can be pretty unbareable, like baby is going to fall right out of you! There really isn't much you can do. I tried the belly bands too and they did nothing for me. I just had to really take it easy... good luck!
Okay... so out of nowhere I woke up this morning and the pubic pain has gotten tremendously worse! Hopefully it is just my "symptom of the day" and alleviates some again tomorrow. I have had constant pain in that region for months now, but not this bad... Maybe baby is just sitting somewhere he is applying extra pressure on that area. Considering taking a dose of Tylenol. Has anyone had any relief from Tylenol? I hate to take anything, especially if it isn't going to help any!
