Re-introducing myself

Hi all!

I had a birth lodge here this time two years ago.

My little snowpea is gonna be 2 on the 9th of January, and we recently found out we are expecting our 3 child.

My due date is August 30th, 2011 but I'm hoping to completely avoid the induction this time around and let it all happen as naturally as possible.

I'm attempting to go with a midwife, but money is really tight for us and DH may be switching jobs soon and insurance is a stress that I'm trying so hard not to deal with.

I have an appointment (1/11/11) to meet with a midwife at a clinic I would like to have, and at that appointment we will discuss the money aspect.

DH and I watched The Business of Being Born about 2 months ago and he agreed with everything said in the film, but money is a HUGE factor and we have no clue how much it will be if our insurance won't help cover it. We know it's cheaper than a hospital birth, but still.

Please send a little prayer up for us.

Congrats on baby #3!

I hope everything works out with the money aspect of things. Insurance stuff must be pretty frustrating.

Smile HI!!!!

I hope that everything works out from the money prospective! I'm so glad you are following through to see if it will work out. Midwives are generally so much less expensive than the hospital but it can be frustrating if insurance won't help at all.

congrats and welcome back Smile hope you are able to get the birth you want without having to worry (too much) about insurance/money. it is a shame some insurances won't cover MW and/or HB...it costs them so much less in the long run!

Congrats! We had to be sneaky to get our insurance to cover our birth center and midwife. Since they have an OB they work with, we funnel all the charges through the OB who is in our network for maternity coverage. I hate being sneaky, but this is one place don't feel guilty about it.

Good luck working it all out!

Yay Janelle! I'm excited that we get to go through this together! I hope everything works out financially/with the insurance. Insurance can be so frustrating!

Well the lady on the phone said that she's sure our insurance covers a nurse/midwife (which they do have at least one) but, the thing that REALLY concerns me is I have NO clue what insurance we will have when the baby is due... DH had an interview a few days before Christmas and we are waiting to hear back from them. We don't know what insurance they use yet and how long before we have it.

We may be having COBRA for a while.

But of course, that's IF he gets the offer and IF he switches jobs to them.

Congrats! I'm also having my 3rd and due the beginning of August. The midwife I'm going through chrages $3500, I'm not sure what my insurance will pay out of this but it's still less out of pocket than what I paid for my son's hospital birth. I hope it all works out for you and do your best not to stress about it.

Like Cindy, our birthcenter birth would be $3500 without insurance, plus they give you 10% off if you pay early.

The hospital would be our deductible plus copays to begin with then 20% after that. We've made a good estimate based on previous birth that the hospital would be almost the same exact amount and that is without anesthesiology or any extras.

Anyway, I've just been thinking about all of this a lot lately since money is tight. Any word about the new job?

No word yet about the new job. Kinda sad, but who knows, some times it takes time. :dontknow:

I did have my initial confirmation appointment with my gen doc and they were surprised at how quickly the line showed up. Lol

I have to go in a bit to have my blood drawn by the lab. Since I had frequent bleeding before I got my positive test (about 3 weeks before) my doc is unsure of my gestation age, so she said I should call an OB and get that taken care of and discuss possible RH antibodies. I don't know if I mentioned it on this board before, but mine and #2's blood crossed during delivery and I got an extra shot of RhIg after delivery.

So for starters, until at least I have the midwife lined up, I'm gonna have my blood drawn and depending on the numbers on the blood work, an u/s really soon to determine gest age (I'm confident it's 6 weeks today, but doesn't hurt to see that little one in there and hopefully a heart beat).

Ugh, the nausea started yesterday and I'm feeling it again right now. My gen doc gave me a script for Reglan, I hope it helps, cause everything else I'm doing isn't working, except sleep, and I can't do that right now! ugh.

I know, a little too fast I think, I'm trying to soak up every moment of this pregnancy, even through the sickness and all I'm trying to make myself love every second LOL.

If it encourages you any....I am covered by no insurance. We've paid anywhere from $1800 to $2800 cash for the birth of our children. It's hard but we make it happen....it's really that important to me to have the home birth I want. At this point, my husband wouldn't even CONSIDER a hospital LOL. Hope it all comes together for you smoothly!!!

Can I say how proud I am of you! My husband and I both shudder at the thought of delivering at home, but we at least agree that the birthing center is a better alternative to the hospital.

I am proud of every woman who is strong enough in herself to deliver in her own environment. Not that I'm not strong, I'm just not that brave. Wink

And thanks on the money input. I appreciate it.
