Small update and a Big THANK YOU!

I have been doing very well managing my GD and I have you girls to thank for that. Thanks to all of your links and helpful tips I am actually doing it!!! I had to cut out just about anything with all purpose flour and stick to whole grains. I'm paying more attention to where something falls on the glycemic index and I've upped my protein levels. Lovin the peanut butter chocolate whey protein shakes Smile I keep my fiber levels up also and that helps combat the GI issues that protein brings on!

Their one-size-fits-all diet does not work for me, I've had to modify it, and they really didn't touch on a lot of the tips you girls gave me. I'm really surprised anyone is able to control it with the little information they give and the generic diet they recommend. It's still not fun, but it's great knowing I'm doing it without unnecessary medicine. I see the wicked specialist this Wednesday and I'm going armed with information and I plan to tell her just what I think of her scare the pants of a pregnant woman approach!!! DH is going with me to the appointment even though he will likely crawl under the table when I start in, he usually does, he's an extremely non-confrontational person.

Anyway, Thank You Girls So Much! I LOVE this board and I really don't think I could've done this without you girls!!!!!!

Woohoo! I'm so glad you've got it under control! One of my friends had GD last pregnancy and even with meds couldn't get it stabilized. The high risk OB kept throwing the dead baby card at her which stressed her out to no end which made the GD harder to manage... Another friend who has type 2 diabetes has found the generic diet does absolutely nothing to help as well. Every nutritionist she went to gave different advice for how to eat - some of the advice conflicted but none of it worked. She has found eating according to the glycemic index is what works for her too:-)

I am glad you have been able to control your GD that really is the most important part. As long as you are armed with information you should have no issues with the specialist. Good luck!

I am so happy you have been able to manage it so far! Maybe just having DH's presence there will help to keep you calm so that you can get out everything you want to say. Take a note card if you have to! I'm glad you are standing up for yourself and your baby!

YES, thank goodness. The back specialist thinks there is probably scar tissue forming between the ruptured disc and the nerve it is pushing on. I still have numbness down my left leg running where the sciatic nerve runs and I lost a lot of muscle functioning down the leg and in my piriformis (butt) muscle, but nothing I can't live with. I hope it comes back someday, but to avoid that pain again, I can live with this!!

I'm just so angry at the way the specialist went about giving me information in my 1st appointment. And the way she very openly doubted my ability to control the GD. I spent that appt sobbing because of the info she was giving me, but now that I know more I would really like to tell her just how terrifying her approach is. There is a BIG difference between the risks and how they apply to diet controlled, medicine controlled and uncontrolled GD, but she made absolutely no distinction, I had to get that information on my own and my OB supplied me with some research also.
