Just wondering if anyone has had this done and what your experience was like ? I'm 38 weeks & 4 days pregnant and my OB wants to strip my membranes at my next appt. I'll be 39 weeks & 3 days the next time I see her. I've never had this done before, so I'm feeling a little unsure about it. I'm in no hurry to have this baby and really don't care if I make it to my due date, so I kind of don't see the point of doing it. I went into labor naturally at 40 weeks with my first and with my second I had to be induced at 38 weeks due to high blood pressure issues. He was no where near ready to come and I ended up with a C-sec. I'm going for a natural VBAC this time around and want to avoid intervention as much as possible. My OB will not induce because I want a VBAC, and she doesn't want me to go past my due date because my first son was 8 lbs, 6 ounces and my second was 9 lbs, 3 ounces. She is also worried because my first sons shoulders got stuck on the way out. I told her I was lying almost flat on my back while pushing and that I now know that the position you are in while pushing makes a big difference. That's why I don't want the epidural this time. I want to be able to move around and to be in a better position while pushing. I am only .5 centimetres dilated at this point, so I really don't feel that my body is ready anyway. Plus, this baby is measuring right on target (55th percentile) so it doesn't look like he/she will be as big as my second.
Is it something that would definitely send me into labor ? Are there risks to having it done ? I'd just like some more info on it before I decide whether or not to have it done. Thanks in advance to anyone who can provide me with some more info on it.
