Thanks Jasmine and Kristen for the welcome! I finally have time to pound out a proper intro. So, here goes...

My name is Tamara and I am 38 (will be 39 on Oct 30th) and have been married to the love of my life, Byron for 16 years (together for almost 20 years!). We have four wonderful boys ages 19, 16, 11 and 9. We're expecting boy #5 in a couple weeks!

Byron and I met over the phone through a mutual friend. When I was younger, I used to call this party line a lot and socialize with others. Byron used to love the way I sounded over the phone. He would tell our mutual friend how sexy I sounded and he really wants to see me in person. I didn't like him at first...didn't really pay him any attention! My friend convinced me to meet him on a blind date. After weeks and weeks...I finally gave in and decided to meet him. As soon as I saw him, I was mesmorized!! But I wouldn't let him know that..no way! LOL! We became friends...and I got to know who Byron was and I fell in love pretty quickly! We've been together ever since. Byron is my best friend. My knight in shining armor. My protector. He always has my back. Our relationship is special. We are both head strong and are leaders...so we bump heads sometimes. But we never stay angry. I am so fortunate to have someone who loves me like he does!

From that love, we made 4 boys. What can I say about my boys? They are sweet, smart, handsome, talented...I can go on! All of my boys are musicians. My oldest, KJ is a music major in college. He plays piano and organ, drums (and all percussion instruments), saxaphone and clarinet. Next is CJ who plays the trumpet. JJ plays the violin and harp. SJ plays drums and he sings (beautifully, I might add...lol!) I am so lucky to have a musical household!

Our family has been through many challenges. Mostly related to my health and also DH's. In 2006, I had a severe asthma attack that left me intubated and in a coma for 5 days. I almost died! DH never left my side..and, as you can see, I recovered from that experience. But it was challenging for the family to say the least! In 2008, my husband suffered a stroke that left him partialy paralyzed on his left side. That hit the family hard because DH had never been seriously ill before then...it just happened! DH never liked to go to the doctor...if he had, we would have known that he was diabetic and had high blood pressure. He has worked very hard on his recovery and is still working hard! He has come a long long ways and is improving everyday.

We've been so focused on his recovery the last couple years, it never dawned on us that pregnancy was in the air! LOL! I wasn't thinking about his "little soldiers" and if they worked or not.. So, when I got pregnant last year in August, we were completely shocked!

Seriously, I thought I was done with having children. After getting over the initial shock (I told DH, " There is nothing wrong with you!!") we were happy and looking forward to adding #5. Then at 16 weeks, we lost that baby. It was devestating! We said we would try again...because the idea of adding one more grew on us. In January, we got pregnant again. At 5 weeks, I lost that pregnancy too. At this point, I felt I didn't want to try again. I couldn't take the heartache. DH and then decided that we would wait until the end of this year to try again. Well, one month after that loss, SUPRISE! Pregnant again! This time, the bean stuck..and here I am at 9 months and totally thrilled to add our fifth and final!

Wow..I didn't realize how much I typed! I will let you rest your eyes right now and continue my story tomorrow! LOL! I'm looking forward to sharing this journey with you! Thanks for reading!

This past weekend was my baby shower! It was held at one of my favorite restaurants, BJ's. My friend hosted the shower and my four boys MC'd. It was adorable!

I got a lot of cool stuff to start with. Now I just need to add some bigger iterms. Do you know I haven't gotten the car seat or breast pump yet? Sigh... I've been working so much, I haven't had time to get these things yet. But I will be on maternity leave soon and will catch up on my shopping then.

Here is a link to my post on the Nov 11 board about the baby shower. Smile

What a good choice for a restaurant - by the way that menu sounds delicious! I'm glad it was a good time.

When is your maternity leave starting?

My dh and I met on a blind date. His sister set us up...I worked with her for about six months and she said "I think you'd like my brother, Jack"...so she showed me a picture and I thought he was cute, and we met for dinner. That was 11 years ago on January 5.

So, a week ago, I posted on this board about a wonderful opportunity to have a home waterbirth! Just to recap:

I had been wanting to have a waterbirth (in a birth center) since second trimester. After touring birth centers and evaluating the cost, DH and I decided we couldn't afford it. We found a hospital that strongly supports natural birth and focused our birth plans on giving birth there. Then, about 3 weeks ago, my doula told me about a possible opportunity with a midwife she works with. This midwife had been talking to a television producer about doing a show on midwifery and providing these services to families who normally could not afford such a service. The producer wants to film a birth in November and my doula mentioned me to the midwife. She also mentioned bartering for services...the midwife wants to learn ASL and in return, I would receive midwifery services.

It seemed like a match made in heaven! I get a homebirth without money out of pocket (I would still need to purchace the birth kit and other supplies)! The midwife and I hit it off right away! We met two weeks ago and she seems like a wonderful person!

Two days after our meeting, the MW called me to let me know there was a problem with the production company. It seems they were not willing to release funds to pay for this project and therefore the MW would not get paid. The MW said she could not afford to do anymore "discount" births at this point and we're stuck until production comes up with something to compensate her for her services. WAIT....I thought we were going to barter? I don't think she was too interested in this option!

Well, the producer and I have been playing phone tag for the last week. We finally talked last night for almost 1 1/2 hours! Basically, she explained how funding for TV shows work. She said she pitched the idea for her show to the OWN network and to Tyra Banks Productions and they are both interested. They want her to film a "teaser"... to give the investors an idea of the format of the show. This is without upfront funding...and this is what the MW has a problem with. The producer asked me to have another conversation with the MW to see if we can negotiate something between us in regards to payment. Or barter arrangement. Maybe the MW would charge a much lower fee since she would be assuming care the last 3-4 weeks of pregnancy. Maybe we could arrange a part payment or part barter for services.

Well, after talking to DH last night, he totally feels I should not have to negotiate anything related to payment. He says the MW knows our financial situation and she should have brought up bartering during our meeting a couple weeks ago. He feels the MW is being a bit greedy. I mean, isn't this supposed to be about servicing families that cannot afford a home birth? So, if production doesn't pay the MW, there will be no home birth. BUT....

The producer was so impressed last night about me, our famiy and our "back story" (Mother of 4 boys, husband is disabled and partially paralyzed, my profession as a sign language interpreter...) she wants to film my natural birth at the hospital! Sort of like "A Baby Story" style. She told me that she is still pitching this story but it will change from a focus on midwifery to a focus on natural birth in different settings. She feels my story could help raise awareness and also launch a new show!

So that's where we are right now.... Stay tuned!!

you have a beautiful family!!! and how awesome, a show about natural birth in different settings would be so, so cool. There are times when i get hooked on a baby story but then get so irritated at what goes on. Either way, i hope you get the beautiful birth experience you are hoping for Smile

I'm sorry that the homebirth didn't work out for you. I think it is crummy that the midwife rescinded the barter option. I perfectly understand that she might not be able to afford it - being a self-employed midwife is not a good way to get rich. But BJ is right -she definitely shouldn't have offered it in the first place! Sigh and Hugs.

I think it is awesome that you could raise natural birth awareness. Are you excited/nervous to be filmed???

Yeah, I think it sucked that I was made to get my hopes up only to be dissapointed. I am normally cautious about getting too excited about things but who wouldn't get excited at the prospect of getting the EXACT kind of birth they wanted? Sigh... We were perfectly fine planning a natural birth at a wonderful hospital...

I am both excited and nervous about filming. But I know I won't pay any attention to the camera (a female camera person at that) when I am in the throes of labor! I am an advocate by nature (Deaf and Hard of Hearing community and autism as well) so if I can help raise awareness and inspire with my story I am all for sharing! Smile

Yesterday, I had a NST at my Peri's office followed by my 36 week appt next door at my OB's office (I love that they are next door to each other!)

The NST went well! It went a little longer than expected because little Devin was in a sleep pattern and they wanted to see heart excellerations on the strip. So they kept buzzing my belly to wake him up. It tickled! LOL! And it worked! Baby Devin passed the test with flying colors!

After the NST, my peri wanted to do a quick growth scan (Last week he said he didn't need to do a growth scan but he did one anyways...he spoils me!) Devin is on track! Not to big, thank goodness. And I couldn't get over the 3D images I was seeing on the screen. It was like watching a movie! (Devin's pic below)

After my peri appt, I saw my OB and got a quick group B strep test done. Since I saw the peri before this appt, there wasn't much to really discuss. I'm healthy, blood pressure is perfect and I even lost 4 pounds! Amazing I can lose weight while Devin continues to grow.

Spent the rest of the time discussing the producer's wish to film my birth at the hospita for a show on OWN network. He is all for it and told me the only thing is if something goes wrong during the delivery, the camera must be turned off. Other than that, he would like a copy of the birth! LOL!

So here is a pic of my beautiful little boy, Devin....

He looks just like Daddy!! Can't wait to squeese those cheeks! I'm so grateful! Smile

That resolution is AMAZING! What a cutie, and he really does look like a BOY. He really does look like BJ! Based on ultrasound pics of my LO, I also seem to be just a surrogate for Warren's clone.

I'm glad he is a good size and you've had such a healthy pregnancy.

I'm up early this morning due to lower back pain. I found out two dr's appt ago that the baby is posterior, thus, the reason for the pain. Whenever I get up from bed, it feels like someone is stabbing me in my tailbone! I'm doing all I can to get this baby to rotate to anterior before labor. I sure don't want back labor!!

On a happier note, this weekend is my birthday weekend! :woohoo: My birthday is October 30 and I'm looking forward to going on a babymoon with DH this weekend. It will be nice to get away one last time without the kids...just he and I. I'm so looking forward to that! Smile

What a great 3D pic! So much detail.

Bummer about the homebirth maybe not working out. Cool opportunity that they may still film though! I'll still cross my fingers that there is some magic funding that goes on there in the next few days so that you maybe still get that homebirth you really want.

Have a great Birthday weekend!

Well, I'm officially 39! My birthday weekend was wonderful! Went on a mini babymoon with DH on Saturday. It was nice to have time just the two of us before the baby comes. Sunday was time spent with the family. Had a wonderful dinner and the best lemon cake I have ever had! The highlight of my birthday was getting the rocker/glider/ottoman I wanted for the LO's nursery! I am so grateful!

Well, this week will be a light week work wise. I deliberately took the day off today to rest and get ready for Halloween/Trick or Treating. I'm starting to slow down physically. My belly is huge and I'm waddling like a penguin! My back is also killing me and I am starting to become restless about when this baby is coming.

My nesting instinct is in full gear! Gonna put togethe the baby bed, glider/ottoman and get Devin's nursery together this week. I'm so excited abut that! Maybe focusing on that will take my mind off of feeling like a penguin...LOL!

Thanks so much!! Tick or treating was beautiful with the kids! My two youngest were dressed as Mario and Luigi and my two oldest were monsters. All four went trick or treating and DH and I stayed in the car and people watched...LOL! It's nice that the older boys took over the supervising duties this year and gave mom and dad a break!

As soon as we have the final touches on the nursery, I will definately post pics!! Smile

It's been quite a week! I've gotten some nesting done.. Put together the baby bed and decorated his nursery area with wall hangings. I have some new curtains that need to go up. I'll probably do that tomorrow. The only other thing that needs to be done is to assemble the glider/rocker/ottoman set I got for my birthday. DH has forbid me to assemble it myself..LOL! I'm so amped, I would do it! My two oldest boys are going to put it together for me. When the final touches are finished, I will upload some pics!

Yesterday, I had a potential "false labor" episode. I was at work and pressure waves were coming every 4-8 minutes! When I got home, I took a shower and went to sleep. The pressure waves fizzled out. I am still having them but only one or two an hour. Doctor says it's probably my uterus reving up for the big day... LOL!

I bought some evening primrose oil and will start to use it tonight. We're on baby watch!! Can't wait to meet baby Devin! Smile

Yesterday I had my 38 week visit with my Peri. Everything is going well. Fluid level is great and baby Devin is just happy as a clam in there! Doc informed me that due to my asthma issues ( My asthma kicks up every November. I missed two Thanksgivings in a row due to being hospitilized for asthma attacks.) if I don't deliver by 11/18, he wants to induce on 11/19.

Luckily, I have a few tricks up my sleeve to try to encourage labor! DH and I are going to Caioti's restaurant in Studio City tomorrow. They have a salad that is famous for putting women into labor for the last 20 years! I had the salad in 1999 and my water broke 4 hours after eating it. Baby #3 was born 4 hours after that. So I'm going to try it again tomorrow! Supposed to go into labor withing 24 hours...so if it works, I just may have my 11/11/11 baby! LOL!

DH and I are DTD a lot! It's a bit awkward with my big ol belly...but fun! Next on the list is using my breast pump for nipple stimulation. Also, lots of walking....lots and lots of walking!

Last on the list is the castor oil.... I did this with #4 and, yes, it worked but it was not pretty! Luckily, I was all cleaned out by the time I delivered so, no accidents! And baby came out perfect...but I didn't like the experience.

So, we're on baby watch! Anytime between this weekend and next Sat...baby Devin will be here! So excited!

Today is "Salad Day"! We're going to make the journey to Caioti's Pizza Cafe to have their famous labor inducing salad. Here's the link

http://blogs.laweekly.com/squidink/2..._the_salad.php

Told this story a billion times...

November 12, 1999 - Had this salad with #3 and water broke 4 hours later. Baby was born 4hours after water broke! Will it work again? Stay tuned! I will update this thread if anything happens.

First, I want to thank everyone who has given their love and support in response to my car accident this past Sunday. I am still very soar and the doctors think my back is injured but they cant really diagnose anything until baby is delivered. So..

After talking with my peri and expressing to him I wasn't comfortable with chemical induction (pit, cytotec, cervidil...) We agreed on a compromise. I am now walking around 4 cm dilated (been having contractions since I ate that labor salad last Thurs!). My OB will break my water tomorrow and both OB and Peri feel this would be enough to induce. Baby is very low in the pelvis and peri says there won't be any cord prolapse.

My OB will break my water tomorrow at 9AM in his office. The reason he is not doing it in the hospital is because if he breaks it there, he would have to use pit according to hospital protocol. After he breaks the water, I go home and labor as I have planned all along...until it's time to go in to the hospital.

So, today I rest...and get my mind focused on the arrival of baby Devin. I'm happy this is almost over. Baby Devin is strong and healthy...I can't wait to hold him!

Not sure how labor will affect my back, but I have a my husband, a doula, and Hypnobabies to help me through. Please send ELVs!

**Update on Tamara** I text her around 11AM (pacific time) to check and see how she was doing, and she said that her water had been broken and the contractions were coming about every 15 minutes or so... and that she would update me when she made some progress!

Good luck again Tamara! Can't wait to see pics of that sweet baby boy!!

This is a duplicate post from our November board, but here's an update on Jasmine!

Tamara text me last night and said that she was going back to the doctor this morning to have him break her water "for real." Apparently the hole that he made in her bag of waters was the size of a pinhole, not big enough to bring on labor but certainly gave her an entire day worth of contractions for no reason! I text her a couple of hours ago to see how everything was progressing and haven't heard back from her, but I figured I would let you girls know what was happening as of late last night. As soon as I get an update I'll let you all know!

Good luck Tamara... sending you ELV's!!!

2PM Update: Just got this text... Water is broken, I'm 5CM! Pressure waves coming, but still feeling good! Here with hubby, oldest son and son #3, producer, and waiting on my doula.

6PM Update: This was posted on her FB... UPDATE: Still at 5 cm. Hoping pressure waves pick up soon. Really don't want pitocin. I'm in good spirits. Just waiting for Devin. Smile

8PM Update: She just text me saying that her contractions are 3-6 minutes apart. Click on the link below to watch the birth streaming live!
