Welcome to your lodge!
Welcome to your lodge Amber!
Yay, a lodge! I can't believe how close I am to the end. I'm mobile right now but I will try to do up a proper intro in the morning.
Boys are down for their naps so i'll try to get this done now. I've never had a lodge before so excuse me if its too long-winded lol.
I'm Amber, 26, and DH is Chris, 36. The first time we met I was around 12 or 13. He worked with my mom so I had met him a few times when she had work friends over or if I was waiting for her at work. The summer I graduated and turned 18 (2004) my mom and her boyfriend broke up, so her and I moved in with a girl she worked with close to where they worked. Because of that there were lots of get togethers with work friends after their shifts (they all worked in a restaurant). Chris had recently started working there again after being gone for awhile. Being around each other so much I'll admit I developed a bit of a crush, and did not hide it at all lol. DH tried to keep things platonic, he was good friends with my mom and didn't want to come off as a pervert because of our 10 year age difference. After a few months my mom saw that I was not going to drop it, so she gave him the green-light to date me. We started dating in Dec 2004. We got engaged in July 2006, and no I don't have some romantic proposal story. We had been dating for a year and a half, my mom had moved out with her new boyfriend months before and my roommate was getting a place with her boyfriend who had moved in with us after my mom moved out. I thought we should move in together but DH didn't want to until we were married. I told him he needed to think about what he wanted out of our relationship because I knew that I wanted to be with him but if he wasn't sure about us then maybe we needed to rethink things. I gave him some space and he came back after about a week and said we should get married. That was my proposal lol. So since we were engaged he felt better about living together so we got an apartment together. We had planned on getting married the next spring, but the more into wedding plans (and prices) we got, the more stressed I got and the higher my anxiety got. His brother lives on the other side of the country and I had never even met him at this point, so when we heard he was coming home for xmas that year we said the hell with it and decided to get married while his brother was visiting that Dec. We decided this in Oct so needless to say the pressure was on. Dec. 15/06 we got married at the courthouse with just family and close friends present, and then had a nice dinner at the restaurant where he worked lol.
I wanted babies right away but we decided to wait a year. I went off the pill in Dec 07 and got a bfp in Feb 08. Around 10 weeks I started feeling like something just wasn't right, I just didn't feel pregnant. Of course everyone told me I was crazy, in a well meaning way. At 13 weeks (Apr 08 ) I woke up and was bleeding. We went to the ER and found out that I was miscarrying, and that the baby had stopped developing at 9 weeks. I was crushed. I literally took a week off work and spent the entire time in bed. It took a couple months for my cycle to come back, but in July 08 I finally got AF back. Aug 08 I got another bfp! I was of course a paranoid wreck, but made it through and we found out baby boy was on the way. I had a totally easy pregnancy, no issues, no complications. The usual aches and pains and discomforts but nothing out of the ordinary. I started my mat leave 6 weeks before my due date because I knew I'd be a SAHM after, and this was my last chance for a little vacation. I was due April 19/09, the day before DHs bday, so naturally he was gunning for baby to share a bday with daddy. Baby had other plans and after a long labor Mason Christopher was born via c-section on April 21, 2009, 8lbs 6oz, 21.5" long. My recovery was easy and quick and pretty painless, I was surprised how quickly I bounced back.
Continued in next post.
Now shortly before Mason was born DH decided to join the army and had started the process. We found out that he was to go to basic training for 3 months for Aug 09, when DS was only 3 months old. Off he went and it was just me and baby for 3 months. We did quite well by ourselves and DH was lucky enough that he didn't miss any of the really big milestones being away. Mason was a very easy baby aside from some early BFing issues. DH came home Nov 09 and we decided to start TTC #2 since we wanted our kids to be fairly close in age and we got so lucky with DS. Well Dec 09 we got our bfp! I was pretty surprised since I was still BFing and hadn't had a PPAF yet. The pregnancy was physically harder, I had pretty bad sciatica starting at 20 weeks, which was just terrible. Aside from that it was pretty textbook and baby boy #2 was due Aug 23/10. Since DS1 was 2 days late I was fully anticipating going to my due date. The 2 weeks before my EDD were hectic, we had family visiting and DS had to have surgery, so things were crazy, and I told baby that he had to wait until after everything was done and taken care of to come out lol. He listened but still came a bit early, Aug 17, 2010 Isaac Alexander joined our family. He was my (difficult) VBAC baby weighing in at 8lb 8oz and 20" long. The labor was shorter but he was posterior and the back labor just about killed me. I ended up with a lot of tearing and an episiotomy. The recovery was different, not better or worse just different. It was overall shorter but the pain was much more intense in the beginning, especially since I tore a few stitches.
Isaac was also a very different baby. He was very fussy and cranky at first. We eventually found out that he had eczema, which was making him itchy and miserable. Once we got him some meds he was a completely different child. He was still very high-maintenance compared to his brother, which is why it took us until his first bday to commit to trying for our third. So Aug 2011 started the baby train, and we got our bfp in Sept. Around 5-6 weeks I started spotting and this went on for about a week before going in to the ER to see what was going on. It took over a week to get a definitive answer but I was indeed miscarrying again. The not knowing was the most draining part of the whole thing because I had suspected as much when I started spotting. Since it was a much earlier m/c than my first my body did its thing quicker and I had AF back in Nov. In Jan 2012 we started off the new year on a high note with another bfp. This one took and here I am, anxiously awaiting baby boy #3's arrival. This pregnancy was so different I thought maybe I was finally getting my girl, but nope. Its been pretty easy so far, definitely easier than last time physically.
I had always wanted a drug-free birth, it just never worked out, with DS1 the long labor and eventual c-section put a crimp in that plan, and with DS2 the back labor from him being posterior was just too much for me to handle. Plus my labor always seems to start as I'm going to bed at night, so I'm always insanely exhausted from lack of sleep. I'm hoping that this little guy is more co-operative, I know what position he's in right now and I will be trying to ensure he turns the right way once my labor starts. I'm not doing anything to speed things up or push things along, aside from drinking RRL tea. I have a feeling he'll be early like Isaac, maybe somewhere around 38 weeks. Watch him be late lol!
If anyone would like to read my full birth stories or see my spaces from my pregnancies, I have them saved in a general journal I started after my BBs started dying off. Here are my keepers.
I love your intro and birth stories Amber! I hope this LO will give you some more time to rest during early labor so it's not as draining. I'm so excited to see how baby boy #3 comes into your world.
Thanks for sharing! I also look forward to seeing how it all pans out this time!
Though I've heard bits and pieces of your stories before, this was pretty cool having it all laid out to read at once. Thanks for sharing! I'm so excited for you!!
Thanks for sharing your story! My first was posterior so I can definitely relate to that one (though mine ended up forceps and torn with no episiotomy). Anyway, I'm so excited that the October lodges are starting. We're going to meet our new little guys soon! :woohoo:
Welcome! I enjoyed reading your intro. I have 3 boys as well. My first 2 births were with epidurals and my 3rd was completely natural at home. So you can do it Look forward to keeping up with your lodge!
TFS! Hoping you get the labor you want this time around. Your boys are so cute on your avatar.
Not much going on here. 37 weeks Mon. Next dr appt is this Friday, I'm going to ask to get checked just to see what is going on. I told DH last night that we should be good for another week because both boys were born on a Tues. He of course just rolled his eyes at me lol. I got my bags packed last night (although I need to find a bigger bag), bassinet and PnP sheets washed, and this weekend I got all my diapers prepped and stuffed. We are pretty much totally ready at this point, just a few small things left to be done that aren't super pressing.
Yesterday was a little stressful because DH almost got sent to Newfoundland because of the hurricane, which would've meant that he more than likely would miss the birth. Thankfully it all got worked out and he is staying put until baby arrives. Needless to say though neither one of us were terribly impressed with that thought.
Phew! I'm glad your DH didn't have to go to Newfoundland. LOL to only delivering on Tuesdays. Hey, that's a good day to have a baby. Everyone is refreshed and on their game.
Had my 38 week appt today. No weight gain in the last week, yay. Everything measuring fine, heart rate fine, etc. She did a check and a rather aggressive sweep, I'm 1-2 cm which is good since I was barely a fingertip on Friday, still a bit thick, his head is way down and right there, she could feel it when she checked. Feeling a bit crampy and pressure-y and had quite a bit of spotting when I went to the bathroom a bit ago, but I'm not expecting the sweep to do any magic, hopefully baby will be here within the next week though.
Welcome to your lodge. Loved your stories. I had back labor with my second too and caved for the epi. I am worried about that for our next one. Have you read up o ways to increase the chance of him being positioned right. I think I remember reading that getting on your hands and knees is supposed to help. Good luck.
What a relief your DH will be around, that's an added stress no one needs!
Has anything progressed after the sweep?
Not sure, but definitely not getting my hopes up. My BHs are a little more pressure-y now since the sweep, theres still a teeny bit of pink when I wipe but not much now, and I've had a few BMs today, a couple of them were fairly loose, but it all just could be nothing so we'll see I guess.
So Wed night I was up almost all night with contractions and pink mucous, between 2-3 am they were actually coming about every 2.5 min and a min long, but they started to peter out and eventually by 5 they were calm enough that I slept on and off for about 2 hours. :/ And then when I got up in the morning they were all gone, so it seems it was a bit of a false start, which was discouraging because I've never had that before. I guess #3 really is the wildcard. Anyway nothing at all yesterday and nothing last night, so at least I got a decent nights sleep last night. DH works until Sunday and then he has a week off and then after that his pat leave starts so I know he's hoping I go toward the end of the weekend or first of next week. I was going to try to get things going again last night with nipple stim or pressure points, but I figure I'll just leave him be for now since it is still a little early, but if anything gets going again on its own then I'll try those things to help keep it going.
It sounds like you have a good plan. How awesome that your DH will get to be with you so much after the little guy arrives. I haven't had a false start before either. I can imagine the frustration.
Such a disappointment that it didn't progress into full on labor but I'm sure it did some work with dilating & preparing the way. Are you going to try for an other sweep at the next appointment?
Yep, but I'm still hoping that I won't make it to my next appt. We'll see I guess.
Any progress this weekend?
Yes, I'm excited to hear how the weekend went!
Nothing. Had my 39w appt earlier today, almost 3cm, 50% effaced. She did a very aggressive sweep again and said she has a 'good feeling' that I'll have a baby within the next week. I'm crampy and have a ton of pressure in my back and butt, especially when I have a contraction, but it could be like last week and end up being nothing again. We'll see I guess.
I'm sending you some progression vibes, 3 cm is a great start!
That's a great start! Especially with the pressure. Sending lots of smooth progression vibes your way!
Yay for 3cm! That's a good chunk of work you won't have to do later!
Well I got my natural birth, although not entirely by choice lol. Boyd Matthew arrived Sept 30 at 11:31 am. He was 7lbs 13oz and 21.25" long. Labor was fast and furious and very intense, I'm still kind of in shock and feeling like I've been hit by a truck. The afterpains have been brutal. He is doing good, quiet so far, nursing well. We should be able to go home tomorrow so I'll try to do up a birth story then but it will be short to say the least.
Take your time to write it up. Fast & Furious is not an easy path!
Congratulations and WTTW little Boyd! Sorry to hear about the recovery being off to a rough start, but I'm so excited to read your birth story! How awesome about nursing going well too. Cheers!
Congrats!! I can't wait to read your birth story!
Congrats! Glad to hear he has arrived safely
Congrats! I look forward to reading the story but take care of yourself first, I hope the after pains have settled down for you.
Congratulations! Glad you and Boyd are doing well.
Sorry about the afterpains. Ouch. I hope they get better for you quickly!
Congrats on the arrival of your little guy! Sorry it was such an intense experience! Hope you're feeling better soon!
Are you by any chance binding your belly? It made a huge difference for me after my last birth.
Thanks everyone. We are doing well here, I'm so thankful DH is able to take parental leave this time because him being home is really helping the boys adjust better. Boyd is great, eating pretty well, sleeping good for now, he's a little jaundiced so we have another appt tomorrow to check his levels. I'm feeling better, my afterpains are pretty much entirely gone now, my tears/stitches are still very sore and tender, hopefully they'll be better soon.
I'm feeling too lazy to do up something proper just yet so here is the abbreviated birth story for Boyd.
Sun, Sept 30.10 am: Water broke at home, never had labor start with water breaking before, and it stopped really quickly so I wasn't sure. Called L&D and they wanted me to come in, contractions nowhere close, 10-15 min apart.10:30 am: Left the house.10:50 am: Got to my Mom's to drop off the boys, contractions now 5 min apart and getting much more intense.11 am: Arrived at the hospital as transition hit, although at the time I was in denial and thought I was just being a wuss. Screaming, grunting and sobbing through contractions.11:15 am: Made it finally to L&D after getting off on the wrong floor lol, was involuntarily pushing in the elevator. Got shoved (literally) into bed and checked, head was there and I was fully dilated. Time to push. Begged for drugs (haha) but obviously it was too late. Still in denial that everything was happening so fast.11:31 am: Boyd Matthew was born, 7lbs 13oz, 21.25" long. No time for the GBS antibiotics or anything else. Quite a bit of tearing to be fixed up. Got to go home the next afternoon.
Wow what a quick labor and delivery! Could have almost been an unassisted birth if you hadn't gone right into L&D when you did. Glad you both are doing well and your DH is home to help you.
That was fast! Sorry about the being shoved into bed, wish they wouldn't have treated you like that. Can't wait to read the full story and see pics but take care of yourself and healing time first
Talk about a quick l&d! Sounds like you made it just in time.
What a fast birth. Congrats mama.
So here it is, most of it was typed up right after he was born with some details added when I retyped it today.
September 30, 2012, 11:31 a.m.
7 lbs 13 oz, 21.25 inches long
My Mommy intuition has proved to be the worst. With DS1 I was sure I would go early, so I was not pleased when he arrived 2 days after his EDD. Because of that with DS2 I was sure I had until my EDD, so he surprised us when he showed up almost a week early. So this time I should've known better than to expect my little guy might be here a week or two early.
At 38 weeks (Sept 18 ) I had a sweep done. The following night I was up from 2-3 am with contractions that were 2-2.5 min apart and a min long. This kept up for the whole hour and just as I was preparing to wake up DH they slowly started to space out. By 5 or 6 am I was able to doze off for a couple hours of sleep and they were pretty much entirely gone by the time I got up in the morning. So disappointing. At 39 weeks (Sept 25) I had another sweep done. That evening I had a number of contrax but they weren't close or regular and they had chilled out by the time I went to bed. Nothing much had happened since then, my contrax had changed from BHs to actual contrax, but they weren't painful or intense or anywhere near timeable. Some days I'd have 3 or 4 in one hour, other days I'd only have 3 or 4 the whole day.
Sat night (Sept 29) I didn't sleep well, I'd have random contrax as I drifted off or I'd have stomach pains from gas/constipation, so it wasn't a great night. Sun morning I tried to have some breakfast but really wasn't very hungry. DH and I were also quite discouraged since my due date was the next day and we both thought I'd have had the baby by now. I laid on the couch to relax, I was having some random contrax that I needed to breathe through a bit, so I decided to maybe time them, they were still 10-15 min apart. At around 10 am I was breathing through one when I felt the baby shift and then a small pop, and then it felt like I was peeing my pants. I told DH I thought my water broke and went to check. Not too much more came out so I wasn't sure but I called L&D since I was GBS+ and this was my third baby, and they said to come in, so we slowly started to gather our stuff up and load up the boys to drop off with my mom. We probably left the house by 10:30. By the time we got to my Mom's house 20 min later the contrax were 4-5 min apart, and getting much more intense, my hopes of going natural were fading because I thought I was being a giant wuss and still had hours to go. By the time we got to the hospital at around 11:00 I was howling like a mad woman, the contrax were insane and I was sobbing and screaming. I had hit transition just as we got there, but at the time I was totally in denial about it, I didn't think that I could that far into labor in only an hour! DH managed to get me out of the car and we worked our way up to the hospital, every time a contrax would hit I would drop to a squat and scream bloody murder. We got up to the entrance and he got me in a wheelchair, which was literally falling apart lol. We made it to the elevator but couldn't remember which floor to go to, of course DH picked the wrong one first lol, so we got off on what seemed to be the cardiac floor. I'm sure I didn't help some people's heart conditions with my howling. A couple nurses heard me and came running, they got us onto the service elevator and got us down to the right floor. During all this I felt like I was pushing, especially when I would squat, but I still couldn't believe that I was at that point already. We finally got to L&D and the nurse and DH pretty much pushed/rolled me into bed because they are smarter than me and knew what was happening from the state I was in. The nurses helped me wrestled off my pants and checked me, and told me the head was right there and it was time to push. This couldn't have been any later than 11:10-11:15. I asked for drugs but obviously there was no time. I was seriously in disbelief and shock that I was at the pushing stage already, I actually said "Are you serious, is it really time for me to push, is this really happening right now?!?!" lol. But it was no joke, so I pushed. After about 15 min of pushing (and one helpful cough that pushed his head out like an inch haha) Boyd was here. They threw him up on my chest and we just hung out there for awhile. I delivered the placenta with ease and then they started up with the plethora of repairs, pretty much the entire left side of my vagina has been stitched up. :/ That took longer than actual labor. He nursed a bit while they did their work, after a little bit the nurse took him and weighed and measured him and then let DH hold him while they were finishing up on me. He was 7 lbs 13 oz and 21.25" long, I was surprised by how tiny he was, we thought for sure he'd be bigger than his brothers were. By 1 pm I was in the shower and off to my new room.
There was no time for an IV, no time for fetal monitoring, no time for anything really, it was crazy! Even though I was GBS+ and didn't have a chance for the antibiotics everything was fine and we only had to stay 24 hours. I'm honestly still a little shell-shocked over how fast everything went, going from manageable contrax 5 min apart to a baby in less than an hour is just crazy, I guess everyone who says 3rd deliveries are "wildcards" are right!
My recovery is good now but it was rough for about 2 weeks. There was a lot of repair work and I lost a number of stitches on one particular tear, which was insanely painful. All my external tearing is all closed up now and I can still feel some stitches on some of the internal tears but it doesn't hurt anymore it is just a tiny bit sensitive.
Boyd will be 3 weeks tomorrow. He nurses like a champ, he's already gone through one growth spurt with constant nursing and was up to 9lbs even at 18 days old, so he is more than a pound past his birth weight! He is still a little jaundiced but our Dr is not worried. He is quite a chill and content little babe and loves being held and cuddled. I'm just trying to enjoy my last newbie and soak up all the teeny tiny snuggles and cuddles that I can!
